Chapter 2: CHAPTER 2

"HEYYY! I'm Ysabella Kleir Montero! Just call me Kleir-for short. We are in the same class! " The girl in front of me cheerfully said and took my hand for a very aggressive handshake.

It's lunch break, and I was called out here in the faculty room by Sir Bobby to introduce me to someone.

I think this is the person he was talking about.

She's about the same height as me, a slender, fair-skinned girl who has brown wavy hair and bright hazel eyes. She's pretty and has that friendly face.

"Eloise." I gently smiled back.

"Kleir, please help Miss Imperial to familiarize herself with things, okay? so that Miss Imperial can adjust faster to this new environment. That's all you may go now. " Sir Bobby dismissed us.

I was about to protest this idea since I can manage on my own, familiarizing myself with this whole school using that fancy map, but on the second thought, maybe I need this.

We walked away from the office. I remained silent, but this girl beside me just didn't know how to shut up. She is so talkative and hyperactive. It's not the annoying hyperactivity, it's just that I'm the one that's getting tired of her. She is beaming with energy, a lot of energy-but somehow I like it.

"We're in the same class, although you haven't seen me yesterday because I'm not around. I'm absent. I caught a cold, but I'm fine now. Oh!Let's go to the cafeteria. I can recommend you some good foods there. I'm sure you'll like them! " She said without pause and ran, dragging me all the way to the cafeteria. I'm just letting her drag me along the way.

Is she okay?

Does she know how to breathe?

Wait—is she breathing?

"Woah.... Relax..." I said in a flat tone.

The moment we entered the cafeteria, as expected, she ran out of breath. She's panting really hard, her face up to her neck turned crimson as if some mad bull had chased her.

"I'm sorry... it's just that I'm really excited and... happy." She said, while still trying to catch her breath. I stroked her back to help her calm down.

"There... there.. breath, Kleir... breath." I said as I was stroking her back slowly.

As she finally calmed down and breathed a little more normally, she took my hand and walked to the counter to order our food.

"A serving of pasta, one piece of chicken breast, and a can of coffee, please." I said to the girl on the counter. In less than five minutes, my order was served. I take my tray of ordered food and find a vacant seat to occupy. Luckily, I spotted a vacant table near the cafeteria entrance. I hurriedly went there and took a seat. If I don't hurry, some student might occupy this seat first. If that happens, that will be a problem.

"Let's eat!" Kleir said, taking a seat in front of me with her salad and lemonade.

We dug in with our food, and obviously, Kleir talked again about food.

"Why did you transfer here, anyway? "Well, uhm, if you don't mind me asking." Kleir asked. I can tell that she's trying her best to sound cool and composed, but her curiosity is very clear, not only in her tone and voice but also in her naked face. very readable.

I stared at her for a couple of seconds before answering her question.

"I just want to transfer." I simply said, then smiled.

She just said, okay, and continued to eat again. This time, quietly and so do I, for us to finish eating on time before the school bells ring.

"Eloise-"

Without looking up, I expected her next words while still working on my meal. But no words followed.

I looked at her and saw her staring right through me as if she was following something with her eyes only. And that's when I noticed that the whole cafeteria went silent. Dead silent, they are looking at something... or someone.

Behind me is the entrance to the cafeteria. I'm pretty sure they're looking towards someone who just came in. I looked at my back and saw a boy walking his way into the cafeteria.

I can't see his face because he is looking down at the floor. I think he is taller than me by a few inches and a skinny boy.

I look back at the students and wonder...

'Are they still breathing?'

No one ever made a single noise, and it seems that they were holding their breath too.

'Why in the world...'

'Who is this boy?'

'What is going on?'

I returned my gaze to the boy and, to my surprise- my eyes met the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen. Even his dark brown hair that covers those pointy noses with cute lips and a small face can't hide his beauty.

'Ocean eyes... What an adorable, innocent face. '

Looking surprised by the sudden eye contact, he froze on his steps for a couple of seconds, eyes wide and lips slightly parted. I just look at him with an expressionless face. He blinked a couple of times before marching his way outside at a fast pace. This leaves me confused about what is happening.

Why did everybody become silent?

What's wrong with that boy?

After the boy left, it looked like all the students had a heavy burden they were carrying had been lifted. I can hear a loud and exaggerated exhale all around me.

"Whooo! What is he doing here? "

"He hasn't come here in a long time."

"I almost choked on my beverage!"

I just looked at them, observing their reactions.

'They look stupid.'

Are the students here in Moonshire that weird? It's even the same in the classroom.

I returned my attention to Kleir, who was just there-sitting in front of me, looking like the rest of them.

"Are you okay?" I asked Kleir, who was sipping on her lemonade drink with wide eyes and her right hand on her chest.

"Y-yes. I'm sorry, it's just that I'm so surprised. " She said, still sipping on her lemonade while chewing on the straw.

Surprised? About what?

"Who was that?" I asked calmly as I drank my canned coffee.

"Omaygosh! How could I forget to freaking tell you! " She said while fanning herself, using her hands with a shocked face.

I remained quiet as I calmly waited for her to say more.

"That boy, that is Killian Kane Gauthier, and he is rumored as..." She moved closer to me and told me to come closer too. I did what was asked and I leaned my ear closer to her because she was about to whisper something.

"... a psycho."

She moved away from me and drank her lemonade again, looking at me as if she was expecting my reaction to her revelation. I, on the other hand, have no idea what to think or feel.

Psycho? That face? That face looks like a child who can't even hold a knife to cook.

'Don't judge the book by its cover'. Something said to me said that, but still I don't believe it.

I remained quiet, and Kleir continued talking.

"And you know what's worst? He is our classmate. Crazy right?" She said.

'Our classmate? Really, huh. '

"He doesn't look like some person who is mentally ill to me." I said as I leaned my back in the chair.

I'd thought of that at first! But when I heard it from his own brother's mouth... I just couldn't help but to believe it. His brother proved it all. " she said.

"His brother?" I asked.

"Yes, they lived in the same house, so I believed it. That rumor has been circling for about four years since we were freshmen." She shrugged her shoulders and finished her lemonade.

I uttered nothing more after that. I have nothing to say anyway. Coincidentally, the bell rang, lunchtime is over, and it's already time for our next period. We stood up and headed back to the classroom.

On our way back, I kept thinking...

'If he is a mentally challenged person, shouldn't he be at a mental institution?'

I just set the thought aside. I don't believe in it, anyway. Who would believe such a ridiculous rumor?

Tss.

"Where are you sitting, anyway? I want to be seatmates with you, but I have one already. "That annoying Brandon, argh," Kleir said, rolling her eyes in annoyance while doing her thing in her locker.

"At the back. Besides that quiet boy near the window. " I said and closed the locker door.

It internally startled me from where I stood. Kleir's big, round eyes popped out the moment I closed the locker. She is pointing at something. I frowned a little. I take a look at what it is. My sight landed on where I was sitting.

"You mean there?" She said it slowly, as if confirming her disbelief.

"Yes, why?" I said. The boy next to me suddenly raised his head, and our eyes met.

Those deep yet gentle blue orbs. Those deep ocean eyes...

'Killian Kane Gauthier '

I'm a little surprised, to be honest. Everything makes sense now. Those stares I get from time to time during class... those are for me. They are worried for the reason that I am a newbie and a transferee, sitting next to the rumored 'psycho'.

'What a joke' I mentally sighed.

The eye contact didn't last at least five seconds. He looked away first, returning his gaze to his notes on the table.

I don't believe that he is a psycho. Not at all. Of course, except if they show me or he shows me an actual crime scene or evidence.

'To see is to believe'

A guy who pops out of nowhere blocking my way in and my sight interrupted my thoughts.

"Yow! Brandon Kyle Martinez, nice to meet ya, miss transferee." This Brandon guy introduced himself as he was flashing off an annoying smile or grin.

I'm kinda pissed. He popped up from nowhere straight to my face, invading my personal space made me mad, but since he only wanted to introduce himself, I just let him off this time with a smile.

"Eloise." And shake his hand that is waiting for mine, then walk to my table and then sit. I can still hear Kleir arguing with that Brandon guy in front. Luckily, a professor came, and the classroom finally became quiet.

I never bother looking at him.I don't care, anyway. I just kept my expression blank and ignored everything, including his presence and those glimpses from our classmates. Minding someone's business is troublesome. I'm here to study, not mind people's business.

Dismissal has passed and I'm currently in the parking lot ready to go home. I picked up my key and was riding on my black Suzuki Hayabusa when suddenly my phone vibrated. It's a text from a...friend.

I don't bother myself to read it anymore; I just put it back in my pocket and drive away.

'Bothersome'

I was driving on my way home when I remembered, I needed to stop by a mini grocery store just around the city. My groceries have run out since I moved into my apartment last month. Fetching some meats and vegetables—since this is the pretty common food that people buy in the grocery stores. After I paid for all of it, I left the store. I passed by some cellphone stalls here, then remembered the text message I received.

I went in and bought a new SIM card. Now I am finally at ease. The heavy burden I was carrying on my head has been lessened. Finally, an official start.
