Chapter 158: Purpose and Sacrifice

Shuku found himself finding it strange to be surrounded by hundreds of his clones in a metal cage of a building. He thought that all of these clones were closed off, off-white, white-washed, washed-out….

Versions of a much livelier being.

They lack essence, just dolls that stood upright while being manufactured by machines. Which was all they were.

Machines. 

They have no soul, but they will someday. However, does that make their existence any important? Just like how unborn humans were given importance. Not just fetuses, but even the concept of 'legacy' and 'generations'.

'Think of the future generations.'

Why must we think of someone who is not alive yet?

Similarly, human bodies and corpses were given respect. These hollow shells where the soul had departed from. But why?

Is the body the same as the identity?

Is it not the soul that should be someone's identity?

Traditions, that's why. Belief.
