Chapter 8: Just a Dream

He opened his eyes to find himself in a garden resting his head over a small pile of books.. He looked around and noticed that this place looked unfamiliar.. In his life, he has never seen such a beautiful place..

It felt like the warm afternoon of winter.. It seemed like he was in a park except for the fact that it look unrealistically beautiful.. The calming scent of wet soil filled his lungs every time he inhaled.. The sweet sound of birds chirping on the trees..

He was sitting on a soft baby blue blanket and there was a basket full of his favourite food resting beside him..

'What a beautiful dream' he thought..

'I wish I could just spend the rest of my life here'

"You can stay here for as long as you want to buy in the end, you have to wake up"

A familiar voice said..

"I know you're going through a lot of stuff and you don't even know what you did to deserve all that pain.. But remember the promise you made to that little kid okay? You'll be just fine"

Jake looked around to find that person with tears streaming down his face but he failed..

"Where are you!?" He yelled..

"I'm right here.. I'll always be here.. We're best friends after all and best friends never leave each other"

"You're Lying! You left me! Y-you you left me" at this point he was sobbing..

He still blames himself for what happened to Leo.. His only friend..

"Don't blame yourself Jakey.. I love you.. I will always love you.. It wasn't your fault.. Don't blame yourself"

The voice paused for a moment..

"They need you brother.. It might be confusing at first but know that everything happens for a reason-"

...

His eyes jerked open by the sound of alarm..

His pillow was soaked with his tears..

It took him a moment to realize what just happened..

He took a deep breath running his hand through his messy bed hair..

Leo was the brightest boy.. The kind of boy who would remind of you flowers, sweets and spring with soft fluffy hair and sweet chocolate brown eyes..

Jake counts meeting Leo as one of his favourite blessings..

When Jake told Leo that he was trans, he hyped him up like no one ever did till now..

Leo was there when Jake got his surgery..

Leo was like a brother..

Leo was also good at hiding.. So good that Jake never realized when he lost his best friend to depression..

It was autumn when he left..

Everything was fine until Jake received a text from him..

"I love you.. I love you so much.. I know you hate cliché stuff but bear it for the last time for me okay?

I never had a sibling so as a kid, I would pray to God to send me a brother I could hang out with, go skating with, a brother i could play fight with.. And I met you..

This world is a dangerous place.. It's not that I want to die, I just don't want to live either.. I'm sorry..

Tell Iris she can have my CD albums now..

I won't ask for much, just take care of my family for me.. Even though I hate them, that doesn't mean I don't love them..

I know you're strong enough.. So live for me.. Okay brother? Make our dreams come true.. goodbye <3"

Never in Jake's life he ran that fast.. Such a funny thought it was that he could save Leo if he ran fast enough..

He failed once again..

Jake saw his best friend, the brightest boy lying on the floor in a pool of blood.. There was a crowd surrounding his cold body..

Jake couldn't move.. He stood there completely frozen, staring down at his best friend's dead body..

Leo jumped off from his apartment's rooftop.. It was a 10-floor building.. Should he say something? Should he do something? Should he ask someone for help? .. But he was cursed after all.. No matter how hard his heart was trying to convince him to do something, his mind knew that there was no use.. His mind knew that he couldn't do anything to raise his best friend, his brother from the dead..

Jake remembered being alone in the corridor as everyone was getting ready to say goodbye to Leo, blaming himself the whole time..

'Maybe just maybe.. If I had done something sooner, you'd still be here with me.. Alive..'

He was left with regrets until Leo's mom called him to say goodbye to Leo..

How would he face Leo like that.. Even if he apologize now for being late, Leo wouldn't wake up and hug his friend like he used to do before..

So he ran away.. Jake's always been scared of saying goodbyes.. He would always run from it..

Imagining his brother who used to be so cheerful and bright, lying there in a white cloth..

It was something Jake just couldn't handle..

Jake got up from his bed and walked toward his desk.. He grabbed his diary and pen and begin to write..

"I didn't expect you to visit me today like this.. Still a nosy bastard..

Must be having fun, watching me having a war between my mind and heart from up above..

Come to think of it, we never really said goodbye.. It's not that I'm denying to accept that you're not here anymore.. It's just.. maybe I'm still not old enough to learn how to say goodbyes.. Maybe I'm still not mature enough to face my fears.. I hate how I just ran away that day... but I couldn't help it.. I know you understand me better than anyone else after all..

Thank you for visiting me today.. I love you too brother"
