Chapter 20: Bad day

It was unfair how in Jake's case, he was able to turn his daydreams into memories but wasn't able to stop those memories from turning into nightmares..

But that was the thing about Jake—He was stubborn..

He was too stubborn to let those memories go.. Although it was something that happened years ago, it still gives him nightmares..

He still thinks that if that day he could've stopped Abby from leaving, their story wouldn't have ended this way.. If only he had the courage and was brave enough to stop them, he could've changed the ending..

But he didn't—More like he was too scared to do so..

His nightmares every day would remind him of the things he could've done, words he could've said, but he didn't.. Because he was afraid that a person like him would never be enough..

He got up from bed stepping a bottle on the floor.. Jake stumbled and ended up falling to the ground making a loud thud noise..

He groaned in pain holding his back..

"What a d*mn way to start the day" he murmured..

He grabbed that bottle and tossed it into the trashcan in his room before going in for a shower..

It was indeed a bad day for him because once again he almost slipped in the shower but he caught himself in time..

After another 'deadly experience' he carefully walked out of his room once he was fully ready to go to the office..

He was about to leave when he heard Iris's voice..

"Hegh, waigf fo mwe" (Hey, wait for me)

She said with a muffled voice because of the toast she was holding between her teeth.. She rushed out of her room with her bag in one hand, and her coat and arrow case in the other.. She was ready to go to school..

Jake sighed..

"Don't talk with food in your mouth.. You sound like a whale"

" Shugf ugf" (Shut up)

They left the house together bickering and mocking each other..

'Maybe today is not that bad at al-' his thoughts were cut off when a car came out of nowhere ..

Iris pulled him back by grabbing and pulling on the back of the collar of his shirt..

Jake's eyes widen..

"I swear I just saw my whole life flash right in front of my eyes!"

He exclaimed with a thick breathy voice.. If it wasn't for Iris saving his life, he would be dead by now..

"Where the hell your brain's at!? If you wanna die that much just tell me and I'll kill you, with pleasure.. No need to jump in front of cars like this!!"

"Hey, I may be struggling but I'm not that depressed or anything! It wasn't on purpose that car just came out of nowhere!" He paused for a moment and shook his head slowly.. "What a lovely day!" He said sarcastically..

"Must be karma" she said as Jake glared at her..

They reached Iris's school after a while ..

Iris said goodbye and walked in.. Just when he was about to walk away, he heard Chris call Iris's name which made Jake stop in his tracks..

He saw as he walked toward his sister, Iris and placed his arm around her shoulder.. He could see that Iris was uncomfortable.. Before he could go ahead and say something, he felt someone grab his arm which made him turn around and look at that person..

"Look who's here?"

It was Sasha..

He turned back around to where Iris and Chris were but he couldn't see them anymore..

Jake sighed pulling his arm away from Sasha's grip..

'Just when I thought today couldn't get any worse' he thought..

"I'm already having a bad day.. Don't bother me.. Go to your class" he while turning around, motioning her to go away..

"But since you're already here why don't we-"

"Nope.. I'm off" with that he walked away leaving Sasha behind..

He couldn't understand why she is like that.. Why does she always bother him like that..

'Kids these days' he thought..

Maybe it was Karma like Iris said— As soon as he arrived at his office, he found out that he only have 2 days to complete the comic he had been working on for months now..

He was sitting comfortably on his desk, drawing peacefully when drew, his colleague came and gave him the bad news..

According to the deadline he still had a week to complete it but as drew told him, he now had only 4 days to complete it..

"HOW THE F-" he paused and took a deep breath..

"Tell me.. How.. Am I supposed to complete a week's worth of work in 4 days? My dear fellow?" He said while gritting his teeth and his hands clenched into a fist..

Drew shrugged..

"Well.. You know the company and stuff.. They're unpredictable" he placed his hand on Jake's shoulder..

"You can do it man" he walked away..

'You can do it man' he mentally mocked drew..

'Not like I have any other choice' he thought while putting his glasses on..

He was trying hard not to lose his temper.. Although this wasn't the first time his company has pressured him like this but the poor boy was already having a bad day, the news just made it worse..

He had been working hard on his new comic and he hate working in a rush—Especially when it comes to comics..

He had already planned his work thinking he had a week to complete but the company once again ruined his perfect plan..

He has been working for 4 hours without a single break now.. He couldn't feel his legs anymore and his back was starting to ache..

He saw from the corner of his eye while he was working—A hand placed a cup of hot coffee on his desk.. Just what he needed..

"Thanks" he said without looking away from his computer screen..

"Do you need any help"

The soft familiar voice made him finally move his eyes away from the screen.. He looked up to see a worried look on Abby's face..

"I heard .. About the deadline.. That's not fair how can they just change the date all of a sudden"

"Well" he couldn't help but chuckle..

'Cute' he thought..

"You've been working for hours, haven't you.. Here" They tapped the lid of the cup filled with hot coffee..

"It'll help"

Jake nodded while taking off his glasses, placing them on the desk.. He stood up..

"I'll go use the restroom first" with that, he left leaving Abby staring at his glasses for some reason even Abby was unaware of..
