Chapter 1: Expect Disappointment And...

Yu-Hee Sora... ah, I could detect that thick ass in a crowd of nude porn stars. The black belt tied around her slim waist defines how tapered it is.

The way that ass moves in her dobok draws my attention from meters away.

Making me completely overlook the fact that we're in the middle of a taekwondo class.

*Crack*

*Whud*

Ringing all I hear is ringing in the back of my head resounding through my ears as the foot of my best friend Bin Yun made direct contact with the front of my face pushing me onto the cushioned mat.

He reaches his hand out, helping me up.

"You okay bro?"

"Yea... I-I'm fine."

Bin Yun and I were friends since elementary school, and we really connected since both our parents are dead. Bin Yun lives with his adopted father but I lived alone from the moment I was eight so Bin Yun and I always hung out there until after dark.

I managed to survive from the money wired into the account my father set up for since I was little.

I have no clue who wired the money into my account, but all I know is he and Bin Yun are the only two people who know about my family.

"Pay attention next time, or did you forget our pact?"

"How could I?!"

Earlier this year, the summer before our third year of high school, I came to him with a proposal on top of the school's roof our usual hangout spot.

"Hey..."

"Yea?"

"What's a man's biggest honor in this world?"

"... being a top martial artist?"

"Exactly! You can make a living off of anything but it's something about martial arts that calls my name... I don't want to just live and die an ordinary life... y'know?..."

"Yea... I get what you're saying."

"So what do you say? Want to become martial artists... together?" I asked him.

"Only if you make it a competition."

"Bet! When we turn twenty we'll fight! Loser buys the winner an ice-cold beer!"

"You're on!" Bin Yun said after standing up to shake my hand.

I took the pocket knife I carried with me out of my pocket and slashed a slit across my cheeks and over my nose.

"YOU IDIOT! USUALLY, WHEN PEOPLE MAKE BLOOD PACTS IT'S ON THEIR PALMS!"

"Whoops..."

"Gimme that!" Bin Yun said as he slashed a wound on his palm.

"So it's official..."

"I'M GOING TO BECOME THE KING OF THE MARTIAL WORLD!!!" We both said shaking hands as our voices echoed through Seoul.

"That's nice and all but can you keep your voiced down, I'm sweepin' here!" Said the janitor who overheard our conversation.

"Alright, sparring is over! Hit the showers and grab a seat!" Said our gym and taekwondo instructor a fit woman with long brown hair.

As the cold water from the shower trickled down my spine I leaned forward, staring intensely at the mirror in front of me. I gazed into my ambered-colored eyes and messy black hair I kept in a man bun and wondered.

Why can't I get a girlfriend?

It's not like I was in bad physique I've been working hard since we made that pact and even got an eight pack! Maybe it was my lack of confidence and bad habits.

My eyes worked their way down to the scar displayed on my face and I began fidgeting with it, interrupted by my teacher's obnoxious voice.

"5 minutes left, freshen up quick!"

I ended up getting out of the shower with my towel tied around my waist realizing that I had left my clothes in my bag just outside the locker room.

Oh god... I really don't want to go out with only a towel on what if someone sees me?

Fuck it

I ran out of the shower rooms and out the doors outside the locker room, and the first thing I see is my friend Bin Yun talking to the hottest girl in class.

Yu-Hee Sora

She had a smile on her face as she listened soaking in every word he spewed out.

"Oh my, Taeyang, I never knew you had such a body! If you'd let me know sooner I'd have you skip class and sit next to me!" My gym teacher said, fonding over me.

I place my hand on her face, restraining her from touching my abs.

"HEY-UGHHH!"

"Bin Yun..."

"Huh?"

"...Have you seen my bag-"

"It's over there."

I was interrupted by Yu-Hee pointing in the general direction of my bag.

I looked down at her and caught her staring at the towel wrapped around my waist.

She caught me staring down at her as she swiftly looked up at me with her dark sky blue eyes.

"Uh- thanks."

I rushed over to grab my bag and ran back into the locker room, quickly changing back into my uniform before class began.

"Alright everyone, take a seat on the mat... now, as you know over a thousand years ago the first three systems were dispelled into this world, the System System, the Midground System, and the Yeoman System. The first people to utilize these systems were three teenagers.

Around your age.

They were as close as brothers but their blood as distant as the moon to the earth. Those would rule the world in three regiments with their newfound power and would dictate the pre-modern world for all their lives.

If it weren't for the youngest of their group King Cnut; who had grown envious and with his 'system' system he stripped his brothers of their powers and slew them, raising their children as his own. King Cnut would have children with many women which birthed new clans and different systems, eventually, Cnut grew old and was slain by one of his children."

"Teach, this is common knowledge why repeat yourself?" Said one of the students.

"As you know the only 'successful' martial artist are those who don systems, but the only people who have systems are the descendants of King Cnut, so what I'm getting at is expect disappointment and you'll never be disappointed."

Out of the thirty-odd people in the class, only eight of us went to check if we had developed systems.

Not everyone is inspired to be a martial artist like Bin Yun and me, which is fine.

You could make a living and live comfortably or even get wealthy without becoming a martial artist.

Live and die just to ultimately be forgotten in the next two generations.

That life wasn't meant for me though, I'm not built for it.

The will of a fighter, the infinite void in my heart waiting to be imbued with my potential.

That flame... I could feel it in my bones, radiating my veins, corroding my blood.

Bin Yun had walked out of the testing room and our eyes greeted each other.

As he walked past me I tried planting my hand on his shoulder to ask him what system he has.

My hand inched closer and closer but ultimately my hand couldn't reach his shoulder it's like there was a distance greater than the heavens enclosing his figure.

"Next!" Our gym teacher called out.

I walked into the room and was seated in front of a futuristic-esque machine, my teacher had grabbed my hand and guided my finger into a slot in the machine.

"Okay now put your eyes through the lens."

The machine's screen read.

System: Void System

{Continue} or {Exit}

To activate your system screens try to imagine seeing

the screen in front of you.

"Ready?"

"Mhm."

"Okay, say continue."

"Continue." I said with a voice growing increasingly nervous

I felt the machine prick and draw blood from my finger.

The screen began to change processing its information at an anti-climatic rate.

"Hmm? That's weird seems to be taking longer."

Minutes passed and the percent bar inched closer to completion.

Finally, I thought, I'd get to see the godly system that would carry me to the top of the modern martial world. Definitely better than some void system.

The machine had finished processing my blood, my hand trembled and my eyes grew wide as they made their way down the machine where the name of my system was.

My heart skipped a beat then sunk into my stomach.

Y'know that jittery anxious feeling, shaking like a sick man, followed by that adrenaline surplus in your bones. Frozen deep to your roots, like someone unexpectedly knocks your soul out of your body.

What's that word called again? Shock?

Where it shows your system on the machine read.

"N/A"
