Chapter 54: Genya prepares Alina 32
Genya also added"Also I am here to make sure your face looks presentable to the court."
Alina was confused asked" Presentable like,you are going to make my clothes?"
Genya"You don't think I was born looking like this, do you?"
Alina stared at the smooth marble perfection of Genya's features as realization set in and, with it, a wave of indignation.
Alina scowled and asked"You want to change my face?"
Genya sighed,Hadrian had warned she would take this the wrong way explained"I won't change your face or anything,I am just going brighten your hair and remove dark circles and stuff.Also the King loves beauty and Hadrian and General Kirigan knows that. In the King's court, appearances are everything. Alina crossed her arms and looked out the window.But slowly understood as Genya said"You can watch.But no more talk. And stay still."
Genya handed Alina a gold mirror as she held up the mirror and watched as Genya's cool fingertips descended slowly over her forehead.
Alina felt her skin prickle again, and watched with growing amazement as Genya's hands traveled over her skin. Every blemish, every scrape, every flaw seemed to disappear beneath her fingers. She placed her thumbs beneath my eyes.
Alina exclaimed in surprise"Oh!" as the dark circles that had plagued her since childhood disappeared.
Genya said. ""Don't get too excited,It's temporary."
She reached for one of the roses on the table and plucked a pale pink petal. She held it up to Alina's cheek, and the color bled from the petal onto her skin, leaving what looked like a pretty flush. Then she held a fresh petal to her lips and repeated the process saying"It only lasts a few days,"
Genya looked at Alina's hair and said "Now the hair."She plucked a long comb made of bone from her trunk along with a glass jar full of something shiny. Stunned, I asked, "Is that real gold?" "Of course," Genya said, lifting a chunk of my dull brown hair. She shook some of the gold leaf onto the crown of my head and, as she pulled the comb through my hair, the gold seemed to dissolve into shimmering strands. As Genya finished with each section, she wound it around her fingers, letting the hair fall in waves. Finally she stepped back, wearing a smug smile. "Better, no?" I examined myself in the mirror.Her hair shone and cheeks held a rosy flush. I still wasn't pretty, but I couldn't deny the improvement.
She wondered what Hadrian would think if he her now, then shoved the thought away. Genya asked"Better,"
Alina looking at herself in the mirror agreed grudgingly. Genya gave a plaintive sigh and said"It's really the best I can do for now." Alina gave small smile and replied"Thanks,"
Genya winked at her and smiled saying "Besides,you don't want to attract too much attention from the King.Because the queen quite a mean streak for those who steals the king's attention."
Alina wasn't sure about how to react to that,as Genya smiled and said "Don't worry Hadrian will look after you,he cares a lot about the Grisha.It's because of him and General Kirigan the lives of Grisha are now better."Alina nodded at that and she slightly glad at Hadrian having her back.
