Chapter 2: Ch.2 - Southbound Dragon

Alex was stunned hearing this, but it didn't end there.

[Hello host, I am the Wish System's cognitive module Interface, you can give me a name if you so wish.] The voice cheerfully resounded.

'Uh… Is this a joke?' Alex asked.

[No, host, I am very much real.] The voice assured.

'Ok… Since you're asking for a name, how about Alina.'

[Very well, host, my name is Alina. Shall I introduce my functions?] Alina asked.

Alex was still a little stunned about the suddenness of this, but he nodded.

[I have many functions. For example, I can issue quests to you and give you rewards for completing them. You can also trade various items for shop credits and buy stuff from my shop. I even have emergency teleportation where you can teleport once a week to anywhere you've been before.]

[However, the one that prompted my awakening just now is the threat detection module. A group of dragon hunters have found out about your existence and are approaching from the west. You are too weak to fight them since they are spiritualists who have reached the 6th and 7th mortal realms. Your body is only sufficient to fight 5th mortal realms at the moment.]

Alex was stunned by what followed.

A heads-up display appeared in his view and a pop-up appeared.

[New quest: Escape!]

[Info: Dragon hunters have become aware of your existence, they approach from the west in a group of 25. They are 100 miles away, but at their speed will arrive in 30 minutes. You must flee, for they are too strong for you to fight. Head south for 3000 kilometers, a nest of wyverns lie there. They will help you.]

[Distance from hostiles: 100 Mi]

[Distance from allies: 2980 Mi]

[Reward: Universal Mental Communication Skill.]

Alex took a deep breath. He wasn't in the mood to eat anymore. He expanded his wings, each the size of a small house, and flapped them with his full might shooting to the sky. He then found which way was south by looking at the sun which was setting, and began flying at full speed to create some distance.

A single flap of his wings at full power could carry him half a mile, he was now a dragon getting ready to enter the mid-stages of adolescence.

So within an hour the quest status had changed showing they were over 500 miles away, this caused Alex to breathe a sigh of relief as he continued south.

He had a bittersweet feeling in his heart, that place had been his home for a decade, even if he was asleep for about an entire 4 years of that.

Meanwhile, half an hour ago.

"Boss, it should have been around here." One of the dragon hunters said.

The man nodded gravely.

"Search the area of 100 miles."

For people of their power with their numbers, it only took 10 minutes.

"It's gone boss, judging by how some trees were snapped going south… I think it noticed us in advance somehow and is going to the wyvern nest over there to get help."

"Impossible! It's only a baby, it shouldn't have been able to detect us that far out with our aura's concealed and restrained!" The boss said kicking a rock that shot through several trees.

"So, someone slipped up or tipped it off! Who was it!" The boss roared.

Many of the hunters trembled. Their boss was an 8th mortal realm spiritualist!

"B-Boss… No one slipped up, I was constantly checking on them." The person who was the boss hunter's most trusted man explained.

"Let's just head south, if we rush now we might be able to get to it before it enters the territory of the hell shock wyverns."

The man took a few deep breaths and nodded, motes of light left the gem of the ring on the man's necklace, these motes of light condensed into a ship-like figure before solidifying.

"We're going after it!"

All the hunters flew onto the floating ship taking positions on the harpoon and ballista turrets, as well as the sails, etc.

The sails dropped and the ship instantly accelerated to 100 mph an hour and slowly continued accelerating.

30 minutes later Alex panicked seeing the status change.

They were gaining on him, slowly but surely.

Originally he relaxed seeing he had over 600 miles of distance between them, however now he had to speed up again.

Instantly, small fins extended out of his back along his spine as the veins underneath his scales began glowing a brilliant white light. This light was faintly seen through his scales.

He flapped his wings and his speed shot up instantly crossing a mile. A boom echoed as he surpassed the 4th sound barrier, this was a regular speed for dragons.

3 successive booms echoed behind him distantly as the ship crossed Mach 1, then Mach 2 and 3 in less than a few seconds.

'Alina, how long can I keep up this speed for?' Alex asked, he was activating a portion of his dragon bloodline to provide a boost to his speed, but he wasn't sure how long he could keep this up.

[1000 seconds at most… After that your speed will tank to a mere 700 mph, it's best if you tone your bloodline usage back. So long as they don't enter a 50-mile range of you, they can't hurt you.] She responded.

Alex was worried, but right now he had no choice but to trust her. He dropped his speed down to Mach 2.9, letting them gain on him.

Once they got within 100 miles he accelerated to Mach 3. However, they were still slowly gaining.

At this rate, he would run out of energy just outside of the wyverns territory.

Alex took a deep breath and focused on keeping his flying form efficient trying to use every flap as efficiently as possible.

An hour passed, and Alex was only 53 miles away from the front of the ship now. He was falling into range.

*ROAAAR!*

A wyvern roared into the sky from the distance.

*ROOOOAAAAAAR!* Alex roared back, this was a call for help.

Instantly several roars shot into the sky as wyverns with black and crimson scales lifted off from several mountain ranges, making those on the ship pale.

'Shit! We entered Hell Shock Wyvern territory!' They all thought.

Several wyvern auras descended onto the ship and the hunters didn't hesitate to stop the ship and turn around attempting to run away.

Fight Hell Shock Wyverns? What a joke! There was a reason they dared go after Alex. Because he was alone!

Dark red clouds formed above the ship.

*BOOM!*

*BOOM!*

*BOOM!*

3 lightning bolts descended from that cloud instantly. A golden barrier surrounded the ship and the lightning arced around the barrier. However, the shield still cracked.

Those hunters fed glowing stones to the ship's core and made the ship shoot off into the distance, however, they were pursued by 4 wyverns ceaselessly. With lightning coming from the sky and the wyvern's jaws, the barrier around their ship was dimming fast.

Ultimately they were destroyed, never to see the light of day again.
