Chapter 27: #24: Pitch-Two
About a few years ago.
"Hey Oldman"
"What is it, Ren?" Ask Zenkichi as he's reading a newspaper.
"There's a new student on my class.
I- I don't know why... it's just... whenever he speaks or trying to get close, I feel... irritated"
"Irritated?"
Ren nod, "Um, why I felt like this toward him? Do you know Oldman?"
Zenkichi tilt his head, wondering about the new student that Ren just say. He then touches his chin, thinking the best way to explains it to Ren.
"Hmm... maybe you're just nervous meeting new people"
"No, I'm okay meeting new peoples... but something about him kinda pisses me off" say Ren
"Well" Zenkichi get up, and rustle Ren's hair, "Why don't you befriend him and find out?" Say Zenkichi as he exits from the house.
...
In front of him stand a beautiful exorcist girl, the same age as him.
Looking at her, Ren felt his stomach burn, and he really wants to puke. His gut feeling signaling to be careful around her.
"Geh" word comes out from his mouth, he is totally vexing.
She turns her gaze toward Ren as if she hears it. The girl open her eyes like he was scanning him, then squinted her eyes like she found her target.
But eventually she close her eyes, smile and waving her hand toward him.
"..." Ren steps back and hide behind Yuzuru.
Yuzuru glance at Ren, but because his head was down obscuring his face, she can't read nor know his expression and feeling.
She then looks at the girl from The Mitejima House who wave her hand toward Ren in particular. Yuzuru think, she somehow gives the same vibe as Yukari.
Looking at her cheerful expression, Yuzuru own expression become sour, but she can't show it here, so she equip her usual poker face.
Then some ideas struct Yuzuru like God's revelation.
Yuzuru think that Ren is falling for her, she assumes that he was nervous and embarrassed meeting and talk to someone like her.
She close her eyes and take a deep breath.
"Don't worry about it, Subaru-sama. We just got here ourselves" say Yuzuru, as she put her hand in front of her chest, replying to Subaru previous words.
"Is that so?"
At first, the mission The Amawaka received is to simply exorcise the impurity on depth 1877.
This mission rather than for investigation purposes, it's for Ren's training instead.
But coincidentally, when they received the mission, The Mitejima house also request a mission with somewhat similar purpose as them.
So it decided that The Amaka House and The Mitejima House would join and cooperate together.
But some members from The Mitejima squad glance at them Amawaka squad with a look of disdain.
Then a woman from The Mitejima squad walk forward, approaching Yuzuru, "Are you the squad leader?"
The woman had pink hair that she keep in buns hairstyle, and she had a mole below her right eye.
"Yes" say Yuzuru
"I see, then best regard" Yuzuru and the woman shakes their hand together.
"Oh?" Ren's figure was caught by The woman's eyes, "Just like our Su-chan, is this his debut mission?" Ask her.
"Yes. I bring him here to experience the true magano" reply Yuzuru.
The two of them let go of each other hand, then The Woman walks toward Ren.
"!" Ren noticed The Woman's gaze and approach, but he remains still in place, because unlike with Subaru, Ren feel normal when looking at her.
"What's your name, handsome child?" Ask her, as she pinches Ren's cheek.
Ren was a bit irritated because she pinched his cheek like he was a baby.
"Ren"
"Just Ren?"
"Ren... Sasaki"
"That's a good name" say The Woman as she pinched Ren's cheek harder.
"Kohun" Cough Yuzuru.
The Woman let go of Ren cheek and apologize for her behavior as she smiles cheerfully.
While Ren rubs his cheek cuz the pain.
"Right~ shall we go then?"
Both Yuzuru and The Woman comeback to their own respective squad.
Yuzuru then giving speechs to all members.
"Our mission today is to annihilate the impurities on depth 1877"
"Do not head first like some barbarian" Say Yuzuru looking at Ren.
"Do not fight the impurities ALONE" Say Yuzuru still looking at Ren.
"If YOU need help just shout" say Yuzuru looking at Ren.
"Don't Forget this Magano is different from the Magano from mainland!" say Yuzuru looking at Ren.
Ren avert his gaze from Yuzuru.
"Understood?"
"Understood" say all of them The Amawaka squad, including Ren.
On The Mitejima side.
"I didn't know you're interested in younger man Ousaka-han" say Subaru, as she and Ousaka walks to their squad.
"Ohoho it's not like that, you see... that child kinda reminds me of my late husband"
"Does he?" ask Subaru, while looking at Ren, and Ren who notice her gaze quickly avert his eyes.
"Heh, in what way he's resembling him?" Ask Subaru again, now looking at Ousaka's face.
"His eyes..." answered her.
"Eyes?" say Subaru as she raised her eyebrow.
Ousaka nod, "Like my late husband, behind those pale blue eyes... lie a trace of madness"
"Madness, huh?" say Subaru didn't believe her.
Ousaka nod, "Be careful around him... he can be your best ally, or your greatest nightmare", warn her to Subaru.
"My greatest nightmare isn't it?", sneer Subaru.
Subaru stop, then approaching The Amawaka squad again to have a small talk with Ren.
Then she pat his shoulder, greatly alarming him as he jumps backward to keep his distance like a cornered predator.
"Oh My~" say Subaru, kinda amused seeing Ren's reaction, it was her first time to meet someone that behave like this towards her.
Subaru knew the first time she saw his face, Ren is very wary towards her.
But she herself doesn't know what she did wrong, or doing anything that makes him behave like this to her.
She also remembers that she always treat her subjects and others well, so she didn't think she had any enemies or haters (probably ♡).
The exorcists from both Mitejima and Amawaka also looking confused toward Ren.
Ren who noticed it, quickly behavung himself and coughs in embarrassment.
"Sorry about that. Can I help you?" say Ren smiling, masking his vexing and disgusted expression.
"Hm? Ah!~ just want to ask, is this your first time diving to Magano?"
Ren tilt his head,
My first time diving to Magano? No, I already dive a thousand of times to Magano.
"No, this isn't my first time. In fact, I already go to Magano so many times"
The Mitejima squad shocked hearing Ren's answer, but Subaru and Ousaka had an impish glee hearing his word.
"I see ♡ so you're from mainland!" say Subaru a bit amazed (lol).
Ren shocked hearing her words, "This girl!! H- how did she?" ask Ren in his head.
The corner of Subaru's lip arched up, she shows a mischievous smug to Ren, making him shivering like he was showered with cold water.
Subaru put his index finger in front of her chin, "Hmm~ you're probably thinking... how she know... or something like that, yes?" say Subaru teasingly.
"Oi you...", just like with Benkei, Ren's eyes become empty yet still fiercely glaring at Subaru, ready to kill her. "Fine! Tell me... please"
"Name's Subaru Mitejima" introduce her. Ren also replying by introducing himself, "... Ren Sasaki"
"Ren (Lotus) yes?"
Ren shake his head, "No, but Ren (Love)"
"Pu-" Subaru let out a chuckle.
"Ah. Yes... you want to know why I know you're a mainlander?"
Ren didn't speak, only nod.
"It's easy really. I just make 3 hypotheses and based on your words, I choose the closer one"
Ren raise his eyebrow, "Hehe~ fine let me explain" say Subaru.
She then shows three fingers to Ren.
She fold her index finger, "First, your last name. The Sasaki is a house affiliate with mine, and they don't have family members the same age as mine"
She then fold her middle finger, "Two, most children (in my opinion) do their first mission when they 13-15 years old"
Lastly she fold her ring finger, "Three, still related to number Two. You're saying you had dives to Magano thousand of times, yes?" Ask Subaru, Ren nod at her question.
She then continue, "If that's true, why we haven't heard of Ren Sasaki? The answer is simple, tha-"
Ren cutoff Subaru's word and answer the last reason, "That means the person is a complete liar, or that the Magano he refers to, is The Magano on The Mainland... making him a mainlander" tell him, as he folds his arms and nodded.
"Ping Pong! That's right ♡", clap Subaru amazed, "Only a complete liar, cocky person, or really strong person say he had dived a thousand of times to Magano when he was 13"
"But if what he said is true, then he isn't an exorcist from Tsuchimikado Island, but a Mainland exorcist" answer Subaru.
"I see" say Ren.
Suddenly, a big illuminating seal resembling a circular Japanese gate appear before them.
"Best regard, Ren-han" say Subaru, as she comes back to her squad.
She then approaches Ousaka, "He doesn't seem like a mad person"
Ousaka let out a chuckle, "Well, maybe I'm just too old to judge the current young'un"
"Don't say that... a lady like you still young ya know?" Say Subaru teasingly.
Back on The Amawaka side, Yuzuru pat Ren's shoulder, "Get your enchantment cloak ready"
"Huh? What cloak?" say Ren as he watches the other exorcists including Subaru activate their enchantment cloak.
Yuzuru grip Ren's shoulder harder, "Emit your enchanted power and cast a yang barrier. Don't even stop emitting it for a second!" Warn Yuzuru.
Ren gulp, hearing her warning.
Ren then try to cast his enchantment cloak.
"The practice is simple"
Ren made an X gesture with both arms in front of his head. He's focusing and accumulating his enchanted power on his head, then from the head he flowing it to the stomach and to all his body, then to all pressure points.
He slowly retracts his arms and making a *osu karate gesture. The enchanted power come bursting from his body, engulfing him, resembling that of a bonfire.
Not over yet, Ren try to condense the leaking enchanted power to his body, and letting it out again.
He does it repeatedly until he can control it subconsciously.
The result is that his enchanted power shroud his body like an extra layer of transparent suit.
Yuzuru step forward and shouting "Listen! Our main mission is to subjugate a Shinjya. But based on the report, the place the Shinjya are is full of lower rank impurities, so don't get careless and pay attention!"
"Impurity code: Ryomen Sukuna, Risk A! Depth of entrance, 1893! Commence operation!"
