Chapter 24: CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR:For The Greater Good.
"How's my mother?, there's nothing serious going on right?"Catleya couldn't help but ask for the fifth time now, interrupting as Doctor Jane was busy checking her mom.
It was pretty obvious to her that what happened earlier had shaken her mother,and she was pushed to the edge to react without thinking of the complications it would have on her for stressing herself that much.
Axel wasn't stupid to do this when he knew quite well that their mom was sick, although she's haven't really told them what exactly was wrong with her,and neither her doctor was planning on doing that either.
Everything was just messed up.
It has always been this way since her father's death, and no one was to blame for it apart from her mom.
Life was different when daddy was alive,things were going normal and they lived like a normal happy family does.
Although,her mother wouldn't relent in giving the family her own share of troubles every single day, that's who her mom was.
A troublemaker.
She didn't see her brother right after she asked for the last time how their mother was,and that was because he was already feeling guilty and was blaming himself for what happened.
Axel was just like their dad,he didn't have the strong heart just like their mother and that had been the problem their mom had with him.
Like she always would say,he's nothing but a weakling like their dad,but here she was.The boss lady lying on her sick bed without any information if whether she's dying or not.
Stop it Catleya!
She's definitely not dying any time soon.
She warned herself.
Catleya threw the thoughts aside, although there's nothing yet doctor Jane has said about her mother's health,she knew nothing much would come out of what happened earlier.
Catrina Hamilton is a fighter.
She wouldn't let any common sickness bring her down,but she had forgotten so soon that old age had caught up with her mother and she's not that healthy the way she was years ago.
The realization of that caught up with her,and she couldn't help but find herself getting real worried like Axel.
She watched closely at what the family doctor was doing,if she wasn't going to tell her anything.She had to find out for herself.
Catleya finally relaxed and calmed herself down when the doctor was done,and turned to flash her a smile which she didn't know if it was genuine or just a strategy to calm them down.
She's been working for them for years,and as unbelievable as it sounded,she had a tight relationship with her mother which was called friendship.
So,she knew basically almost everything about them,and maybe her mother had gone ahead to tell her how vulnerable her children were,that would be if she hadn't figured out herself.
So,she didn't smile back at her, but kept a cold face to ask her one more time,"How's she doing?Why did she pass out?"
"If we both can be honest to each other Catleya,it's very obvious that your mother isn't that strong enough as she is years ago"
"And?"She asked further, ignoring her stupid question,yes!
It's a stupid question to her, ofcourse she knew that,so why is she trying to twist the question around to avoid telling her what she really wanted to hear.
"Don't be so worked up about what happened Catleya,she's just stressed up and needs rest which is why i demand of you to take extra care of what she eats, and her sleep routine"
Doctor Jane advised, turning to look at the sleeping woman and the IV,she was a doctor but what she couldn't do right now was expose her client's information.
The Chairwoman was far from stressed up,she was seriously sick and needed to stop stressing her body further than it could go.
But it wasn't the fact about her being seriously sick that worried her,but that's her refusal to take treatments.
As stupid as it sounds,it was the reality of what is going on right now,and she had gone ahead to warm her from saying a dime about it to her kids.
She's kept them in the dark about what's going on with her,and that's not a good way to solve what's going on because right now,she noticed Catleya wasn't buying what she just said.
She had been the observant and insightful one between her two children,but she didn't carry that part of Cartrina that makes her a Hamilton.
None of her children did,aside from the beloved granddaughter who was the rebel of the family and the most talked about right now.
The girl was a handful,just like her grandma.
"I don't think you seem to understand the part that says that I'm not a kid, and not too gullible not to notice that whatever she's going through had passed normal stress "Catleya sassed with folded hands, looking at the two maid that left the room on her order.
"What's wrong with my mother, Doctor Jane?I wouldn't like to go to extreme means like my mom to get things down upon her request,Nah!I'm not her"She shook her head in denial.
"So,I would like you to tell me what's going?I know she would have told you not to say a word about it to us, but you see.."Leaning close to whisper to her"I'm quite secretive than my brother"
She joked with a smile, thinking that doctor Jane would change her mind,it's not like her mom would find out anyway if she doesn't overreact for her to do that.
"I'm sorry Catleya,but i think you would have to hear that from your mom once she's awake,"She said, taking her things lying on the bed,before turning to meet the non smiling face of Catleya,which didn't scare her a bit.
She doesn't scare her,not at all.
She has seen worse.
"Just make sure she takes her medication on time, and get the rest she deserves.I will be back in the evening, to check up on her once I'm done with work"
With that,she left the young woman who looked at her mother's sleeping figure. She looked less frightening while she's asleep.
If one actually saw her right now,they wouldn't believe that she's the woman who was firing thunder and brimstones at her son moments ago.
She wonders if the situation has been taken care of, if it hasn't ?
she would be really angry once she woke up,and her secretary wasn't here either or was he here?
She thought, when she saw shadows outside her mother's door,it wasn't her secretary nor her brother.
It's someone else,who wouldn't mind coming to check if her mother was dead or not.
She's been there all this while, listening to her conversation with the doctor.
"She's not dead if that's what you came to check on, Tiana"She said, and received no reply.
"Yet"Tiana corrected her,before walking into the room to look at her grandma,who looked peaceful while sleeping.
"You are back"Catleya said to her,neither happy nor sad, unlike her niece.She didn't want her mother to die, not yet.
"I had to"She replied cozily,as if it didn't bother her that a family member was sick,rather she was busy admiring her grandma's room.
This was the third time she was in here,the other two times were because she had been called to receive punishments for disobeying the head of the house.
"Why asking?Did you miss me?"Turning to face her aunt,who wasn't in the mood for her jokes right now.
"Hardly"Catleya's replied, sitting down besides her mother,she realized that Tiana was the problem for all these, but she was no saint to judge her.
"It means that you finally realized how stupid it was for being such a headache all these,while trying to outrun your fate"
Tiana frozed in her spot,where was this coming from?
Had her aunt joined the old hags gang?
"I'm not surprised,I expected that"
"You had to Tiana,you needed someone to open your eyes for you to start behaving like the real Hamilton you are"Catleya sassed,not knowing where that came from.
Was it the fact that maybe Tiana would finally get what she wants when her mother dies,that had her speaking this way to her?
Whatever it is she didn't care!
She wanted peace, but right now,she needs her mom alive to achieve that ,as cringing as it sounds.The house wouldn't be complete without Catrina.
"You have to listen to mom, Tiana,she knows what's best"
There's no family without her.
"Fine,I just hope you remember this because in due time,you will realize how stupid you all are for siding with her"Tiana said harshly before leaving.
Catleya didn't care.
Although her words hit hard,she refused to believe it,but why does she feel that she just made a huge mistake she would come to regret later on?
"I'm sorry, Tiana"She whispered,before turning to look at her mother cleaning a sweat off her face with the towel she's holding.
"But maybe,this is fate calling unto you for the greater good"She added.
