Chapter 68: Invasion of Pentos
After returning to the City the messenger had reported what happened with the negotiation's to the Council of Magister's.
Upon hearing how the enemy King refused their offer the council was furious and had the messenger killed because of their anger.
Then after that they began to gather up their families and all of their possessions to leave the city and go to another Free City to seek help.
All the Council member's ran to grab their families and guard's to leave the city while the people were unaware of the impending invasion.
The news of the fleet arriving back looking beat up was known by the inhabitant's of the city but they didn't know how soon the enemy was going to attack.
That was until the Port of Pentos was bombarded by Cannon's causing people to run from the danger and into the city.
Alarm's all over the city started to ring as the soldier's rushed to defend the Port from the invasion. The Councilor's would use the slave soldier's that they had in order to hold off the enemy until they made it out of the city.
The Bombardment of the Port didn't last long, and once it was done a ton of ship's carrying warrior's could be seen approaching the Port.
The Slave Soldier's sent by the Councilor's who were lead by Veteran Warriors hired by the Councilor's had set up a defensive formation facing the Port, blocking off all access points to the city.
Behind them were archer's ready to shoot at the enemy once the reach the land. Thornir who was in the lead transport had watched as the enemy attempted their last stand against his warrior's.
He wasn't worried about these Slave Soldier's as they looked incompetent, by the way they set up their formation's.
The Formation's they were using were weak as nobody was in correct columns, instead it was more like stagger columns with no organization at all.
A Staggered Column formation could easily be breached by trained warriors as it had not support.
Usually the frontline of the formation would be supported by the 2nd line, then the 2nd line would be supported by the 3rd, it was a continues thing which made each line have a support wall behind them besides the last line.
But here in front of him the warrior's were no working as a team at all.
After a few more minutes Thornir's transport had landed on the Port. As soon as they did this the enemy fired a volley of arrows which Thornir saw.
So he turned to his Warrior's and shouted "Shields!" as each Warrior moved in front of him and formed a giant shield wall in a matter of seconds blocking all of the arrows.
Truth be told, Thornir could have blocked the arrows himself but he wanted to show off the training of his warrior's and also because he won't always be their to use his magic to block arrow's.
Watching all of the arrows hit the shields, The Warriors along with Thornir ran onto the Port and formed a giant shield wall while they waited for the other warriors from the other ship's to come.
Seeing this the Veteran Warrior's who were leading the Slave soldier's had saw this as a weakness and ordered another Volley of arrow's as one of the Formation of soldier's advanced forward.
The Warrior's who were getting off of the ship's had held their shields up while they crouched to cover their entire body and block all of the arrows.
Once the volley was over they advanced forward and joined the shield wall formation.
This continued until one of the Veteran Warrior's had gotten tired of it and had charged his Warrior's forward.
Seeing this Thornir had unsheathed his sword while shouting "HOLD!" All of his Warrior's tightened their grip's and waited while the enemy charged forward.
Once the enemy got close they had clashed against the shield wall and watched as the Free Folk Warrior's stood firm and the shield wall was not penetrated at all.
That's when Thornir shouted "NOW!" and all the warrior's charged forward killing all the enemies that they can see in front of them.
And because the enemy had men in the way the archer's couldn't fire at the Free Folk Warrior's without risk of hitting their own.
That's when another transport had landed on the Port and another group of Free Folk warriors had ran to a safe position behind Thornir and his formation.
These man were armed with longbow's and they didn't waste time to set up. Once they were all set up the Unit Commander raised his sword which was the signal to load their bows and take aim.
Once all of the men had their bows loaded and pointed into the air toward's the enemy the unit commander brought his sword and swung it until it was facing the enemy which was the order to release all arrows.
The arrows had streaked across the sky and in a matter of seconds had reached it's target which was a formation that was blocking off the entrance from the Port into the City.
This group of enemies had tried to block the arrows with their shields and was mildly successful as a few of the arrows had hit their intended target's.
Thornir who had just got done killing the group of enemies with his warriors had now focused on the group in front of them and had charged at them.
They were already weak and disorganized from the arrow volley and now they were being charged at.
Behind them more Warrior's led by Unit Commander's had started to attack other group's of enemies who were blocking the way into the city.
The Council of Magister's had yet to make it out of the city and Thornir was just a few more battle away from having all of them in the palm's of his hand.
