Chapter 2: Chapter 02: The planning

Zara made a long list of things needed and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm getting married without me knowing. I used to think I was life of the party till I met Zara. This girl sure knows her onions when it comes to party planning.

What cloths do I wear? What hair style would suit me well? What?….what?…what?…

The questions kept coming. I'm beginning to feel super excited. Never to forget I'm making provisions for ten guest and I have just five friends in the whole of the city. Who do I invite to make up for the ten guests?

"How about I invite this cute guy at work" I said smiling to myself. Would he regard my invitation?

Oh well! What is life if we don't take chances. Winks.

It's a Saturday evening and Zara went out on a date. My weekend has been sort of eventful because of the loads of pending house chores I have to attend to. I enjoy every bit of the house chores except one—ironing. Gush! It feels like a heavy burden anytime I have to iron my cloths—which I really do not have a choice but to. Talk of cooking, washing, cleaning and putting the house in order—I enjoy doing every bit of these.

"Hey babes! I'm home!"

Zara is back.

"I thought you were going to stay out longer than this. What happened?" I asked.

"He has an emergency meeting to attend to." She replied.

Lagos men and emergency meetings—5&6. I hope he is just not one of those men out there that their sole job is to catfish young women only to dump them later. Did you just ask how did I know? Well I have had a fair share of their cruelness.

"I invited him to the dinner party." She said as she settled into the sofa.

Did I hear her well?

"You invited who?" I replied startled.

Zara had told me about this mystery guy when we were catching up earlier the previous day. They have been talking for few months now and they have only met twice. It's pretty much obvious Zara likes him a lot but something doesn't just sit well with me about him—I really don't know what it is yet and I wouldn't want to point out a baseless feelings due to my own past experience with Lagos men. I will just let her figure things out herself with him.

"I invited Dave. My date." She replied slowly while trying to read my facial and body reaction.

"Oh that's his name." I replied.

"Yes. Do you have a problem with him coming?"

"No I don't, I'm just surprised you invited him. You must really like him."

The Zara I know would not invite any random person to an in-house dinner party. Talk more of her best girl's birthday party. I really can't wait to meet this mystery guy who my friend deem fit for this utmost honor.

"I want you to meet him that's why I invited him."

Has this girl been reading my mind again?

"I will really love to." I replied with a smile on my face.

It's few minutes past 6pm. I want to take a walk to ease the stiffness in my bones and muscles. And probably also to have some deep thoughts—I think I live more in my mind than the physical. I have virtually had every fun and adventure in my head than physically.

"I'm taking a walk babe. Would you like to join me?"

"I really wish I can but I need to rest." She replied.

It's 20 mins walk from my house to the estate's gate, which is my normal route when I decide to take a walk. But today I'm going another way.

"What does the next street after mine even looks like?" I asked myself as I headed that way.

They sure have beautiful houses here. Classy and expensively built. I have a great taste when it comes to houses and beautiful spaces especially interiors.

I just had a perfect idea for my birthday gift! I have been stuck on what gift to give to myself and yes! I just have an idea now. I have been wanting to spice up the interior look of my bedroom—not really an expensive one but something simple and classy.

This walk, especially the new route is a good shot after-all.

My bedroom setting is just like that of a person who really does not care what and how well the interiors are than to just sleep and wakeup— A bed frame with a four and half size mattress. A 2-in-1 wardrobe not too far from the bed. A three-step-not-too-wide shoe rack just beside the wardrobe, a 3 step trolley where my cosmetics and toiletries are kept is on the other side of the bed, after a small stool just by the side of the bed—which houses my note pads, phone and some other things. The cream paint in the room is almost fading. The grey fur rug is still very much in good condition.

I'm looking at putting up the new interiors and few touches myself—for someone who is a great lover of beautiful interiors,I should be able to pull this through. I will only be needing the service of a painter. I don't want to experiment with that.

Few mins to 7pm! Wow! I lost track of time in the vicarious sight of the interior of buildings on the street—that is what I have been doing all along.

I need to hurry back home before Zara gets worried.

Phone rings.

Speak of the of the angel—Zara is calling.

"Where are you madam?." She asked from the other side of the phone.

"I'm on my way back mummy." I replied jokingly.

"Hurry I have a gist for you."

"Really? What is it about.?"

"Get your self here first."

I can't be the only girl who loves gist. I got home amidst walk and jogs. I went straight to the shower before I came to settle for the gist—it must be premium because of the sound in Zara's voice when she called.

"Have you had something to eat?" I asked as I settled into the sofa.

"Yes. I saw some noodles in the kitchen that I cooked and I left some for you. You can just microwave it when you are ready to eat too."

"So thoughtful of you. Thanks babe."

"Sooooo, I asked Dave if he could come along with one of his close friends to the party." She said slowly while rolling her eyes in a seductive way.

"Why?" I asked pretending not to know what she is up to.

I have told this girl more than a thousand times that I'm not interested in any relationship or men troubles for the time being—I have had enough of their nonchalant attitude.

Are you thinking about the guy at work? Nah, I just like his cute smile and how it always makes me feel relieved when I'm tensed at work.

"I ask him to come with his friend to see if you two can click. You have been single for a long while now babe." She said as she gently rubs hand.

"Nine months is not a long time madam. Besides I have had enough of men's trouble. I replied uninterested.

"Dave is a really good man and the way he speaks highly of his friend I think he should be a great man too. Just give it a shot plssss." She said putting on that seductive look on her face again.

"Okay! It's fine! He can come."

"Yasss queen!" She replied happily.

We have Eight guests on the waiting list already—five of my friends, Dave and his friend and the cute guy at work whom I haven't even informed—I will do that on Monday.

It's 8pm already. I need to sleep early because tomorrow is Sunday and I'm going to church.

"I'm going to bed babes. Tomorrow is Sunday."

"Alright I will join you soon."

I always look forward to every Sunday because of the always on point soul lifting messages from my pastor. The way he preaches the word of God unprovoked is worthy of emulation. He sings so effortlessly too and to crown it all he has a beautiful wife with lovely kids—the man is really blessed. Every woman's dreams man.

I don't know if it's safe to tap into blessings of human or just ask God that his will be done. Let your will be done Abba.

Sunday service was awesome as usual. The message was a spark I needed going into the new week—I forgot to mention the choir sounded just like the heavenly angels because those voices are too extraordinary to be just humans'.

Starting the new week felt more exciting for me than the usual—maybe it's the upcoming birthday party and the fact that I have a company in the house now. Loneliness is one hell of a thing.
