Chapter 45: Holy Knight

Chapter 45: Holy Knight

As William approached the center of the room, he noticed a cauldron emitting copper-colored smoke. Intrigued, he moved closer to observe the potion's appearance. Its texture was otherworldly, appearing liquid yet rough like steel.

Crestet Cesimir entered behind him.

"Whenever you're ready, feel free to drink the potion," Cesimir said, indicating a rather large glass on the table. William nodded and poured the contents of the cauldron into the glass. Despite lacking any ability to determine the potion's correctness, he had another method at his disposal.

"Debris, what do you think?" he asked his sword from him.

"The potion is correct, Darling," Debris replied. "However, you must be careful. I suspect something similar to last time may occur."

William glanced over at Cesimir upon hearing this information but decided it wouldn't pose any issue.

"Okay, here goes nothing," he said, raising the glass and drinking the entire potion.

For a full second, he felt no change. And then, he felt his heart give out a shrill beat.

The room disappeared, and he was replaced with another vision.

An apparently endless expansion lay before William, scattered with an overwhelming number of corpses. As far as the eye could see, there seemed to be no end to the lifeless bodies that lay strewn across the ground. Despite the vastness of this bleak and somber landscape, his attention to him was immediately drawn to the center of it all, where a striking silhouette stood out against the grisly backdrop.

The figure stood tall, holding a sword that glimmered with piercing blue light, like a star shining through the darkness. Its brilliance cast an eerie glow over the surrounding carnage, creating an otherworldly scene that seemed to defy reality itself. The sword's sharp edges gleamed in the dim light, hinting at the power and strength it possessed.

Despite the chaos that surrounded it, the figure holding the sword exuded a sense of calm and control. Its posture was unwavering as if the horrors around it were nothing but a distant memory.

William knew immediately that he shouldn't be watching this scene, and yet a sense of inexplicable familiarity with the sword kept him from looking away.

The feeling of being connected to something yet not comprehending why was exasperating, as though a part of him rejected such thoughts at his very core.

"William."

The silhouette began to turn towards him.

"WILLIAM!"

William took a deep breath. He felt as if he hadn't breathed for a whole day.

"You frightened me. I thought you had lost control," Crestet said as he brandished his revolver. It was only at that moment that the new Red Glove became aware of his profuse sweating and trembling hands.

"What happened?" William questioned, his head aching like hell.

"Are you asking me? You should answer that." He took a chair and sat down. "You drank the potion and suddenly you started to shake."

William massaged his temples trying to remember.

"I think I saw something." His head began to ache even more as he tried to reproduce the scene he had seen. "I think... there was a sword."

Cesir narrowed his eyes.

"Sometimes when the Beyonders advance through the Sequence they may accidentally sense some high-level element of their pathway. For example, those following the Mystery Pryer pathway hear the Hidden Sage's ravings each time they advance." He explained.

Upon hearing the explanation, William felt a sense of calm wash over him. Even Old Neil had elucidated that a Beyonder's spirituality could sometimes erase memories to shield them from the knowledge they weren't meant to possess. William took a seat in one of the unoccupied chairs and began to sense the changes that happened in his body.

Knight pathway, Sequence 7. The name of the Sequence was Templar.

His physical limits had expanded again, at this point he was already capable of running at the same pace as a common car in his previous world. It was hard to believe that a human could have that much strength.

In addition to the increase in his physical abilities, he noted that he had acquired some interesting abilities.

The first of these was accelerated regeneration, which would allow him to heal his injuries much faster than an average human. Of course, this only worked as an accelerator, it wouldn't allow him to grow limbs or organs.

Now, he also possessed the ability to wield any object resembling a sword as if it were one. For example, he could use a tree branch and cut his enemies without any difference from a real sword.

Finally, he could use an upgraded version of Wrath called Strength Aura that would enhance all his physical attributes of him without losing control. However, it had the disadvantage of consuming more spirituality than Wrath did.

Overall, William was quite pleased with his increased strength and explained his new abilities to Crestet Cesimir.

"That's pretty good, I can think of a lot of situations where your abilities will come in handy. It's clear that your pathway focuses on direct combat, which has both good and bad things." She glanced at William to see if he had figured this out yet.

The newly promoted Templar nodded in understanding. He had already known for a long time that a Knight pathway Beyonder would have trouble fighting those enemies who possessed intricate powers.

At the moment, he couldn't deal with non-physical attacks unless he could finish off the Beyonder fast enough to prevent them from using his powers.

"I see you understand, but don't worry." Cesimir got up and gestured for her to follow him. "We Red Gloves work as a team precisely to compensate for these weaknesses. Come with me, I'll introduce you to the others."

William followed him hoping to get along with the people he would meet. After all, he would be spending a lot of time with them from now on.
