Chapter 243: Chapter 241. Invitation From S.H.I.E.L.D.

"James, you look like you're in a good mood today. Did something good happen?"

Inside the laundry shop, Jack, who was flipping through the newspaper, looked at Ryan, who was smiling and placed his newspaper down with a friendly face.

"It's a beautiful day, don't you think?"

Glancing at the contents of the newspaper, the above report about the resurgence of the Green Goblin made Ryan's eyes pause, and then he replied with a smile.

"It's quite good."

Looking at the weather outside, Jack couldn't help but nod approvingly.

"Such nice weather naturally puts people in a good mood."

With that, Ryan flipped the sign in front of the shop, turned around, and walked into the antique shop.

The effect of going back in time wasn't parallel to the reality of time, meaning that although Ryan spent a decent amount of time in the past in World War II, to the people of this time period, he simply went to sleep.

Although, the consequences of his sleep were very far-reaching.

Even history had changed a bit.

...

"The Avengers..."

In Chinatown, inside the martial arts school, Ip Man looked at Natasha in front of him. His gentle face revealed a surprised look.

"What is that? A secret organization in S.H.I.E.L.D.?"

In the antique shop, Ryan raised an eyebrow. The expression on his face was more than a little surprised.

Naturally, he knew exactly what the Avengers were, but he just didn't expect that S.H.I.E.L.D. would extend an invitation to him, or should we say Peng Lai, the name behind Ip Man.

"Simply put, it is a group of superhuman entities that establish peace in order to protect the world. With all that had happened in New York lately, whether it was the Abomination or Jiu You's Lord Godless, S.H.I.E.L.D. understood that the only way to counteract the threat of transcendent power is to be a transcendent power."

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s plan had been on Nick Fury's mind for a long time.

However, the emergence of Jiu You and Thor accelerated the plans.

Even targeting Peng Lai.

The words 'world peace' were a bit of an oxymoron coming from an agent like him, but in the context of Nick Fury's initial purpose in establishing the Avengers, it was indeed to keep the world at peace.

"World peace?"

Ip Man muttered and repeated Natasha's words.

Inside the antique shop, Ryan grimaced a little in disbelief.

Not to take Natasha's words for granted, but in reality, when one thinks about it carefully, the Avengers may have really been established because of Fury's idea of protecting the earth from invasion. But in reality, both the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. were also involved in the wars that actually harmed the planet.

Although he was deliberating in his heart, Ip Man, who was inside the martial arts school, still made a pensive expression on the surface.

"Master Ip, you should know the threat of Jiu better than us You. In fact, Jiu You is not the only organization that would be a significant threat to this world. Just a short time ago, mythological artifacts that only appeared in Norse mythology appeared in New Mexico, proving that not only do the immortals of Peng Lai exist in this world, but also the Norse gods ..."

Although Ryan knew all about Natasha's New Mexico matter, he kept a silent expression on the surface.

"I'm sorry, Natasha, it's about Peng Lai. Unfortunately, I can't make a decision on my own."

There was a long silence before Ip Man looked up and replied with a bitter smile.

"I understand."

Nodding gently, Natasha didn't expect the luxury of convincing Ip Man to take Peng Lai to join the Avengers with just a few words.

In fact, even Nick Fury himself, the man who established the initiative, wasn't absolutely certain about the Avengers initiative.

However, the gathering of the Avengers members didn't go as smoothly as one might expect.

...

A few days later, Chinatown, in the Wing Chun Martial Arts School.

"What, left Chinatown?!"

Inside S.H.I.E.L.D.'s base, Fury's expression slightly changed as he heard the message he received from Natasha and asked with a serious look on his face.

"Can you confirm when it happened?"

"The exact time of departure must have been between last night and early this morning. The other party left the area quite stealthily, and even the agents in the area didn't notice him leaving."

Standing inside the empty martial arts school, Natasha's eyes swept everything in front of her. She paused at the wooden dummy and continued to report to Fury on the other side of the earpiece.

Natasha herself wasn't as calm about Ip Man's departure as it might seem.

"Leaving quietly?"

Inside S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury frowned and muttered.

Ip Man's sudden departure was of greater concern to Fury than the impact it would have on the Avenger initiative.

"Could it be that there's some kind of situation going on inside Peng Lai that we don't know about?"

Hearing Fury's speculation, Natasha couldn't help recalling the previous battle between Peng Lai and Jiu You. The man named Sky Emperor, who appeared at the end, was only a shadow, but it still left a deep impression on her.

Because of the lack of information, even Nick Fury couldn't speculate much on Ip Man's sudden departure. The S.H.I.E.L.D. Director loosened his ever-tightening brow. After a long while, he made a decision with a deep voice, "In that case, there is not much use in remaining in Chinatown. Recently, the big guy hiding in India was found by the military. Just in time, you should go there."

"Understood."

Nodding her head, Natasha's eyes swept over the empty martial arts school again, then turned and left Chinatown without a second thought.

From the beginning, Peng Lai wasn't the only candidate for the Avengers.

...

[Reputation points from Nick Fury +120]

[Reputation points from Natasha Romanoff +145]

'It looks like S.H.I.E.L.D. is aware of the situation in the martial arts school.'

In the antique shop, Ryan looked at the points appearing on the system panel and speculated on the source of these reputation points.

Ip Man's sudden disappearance was, naturally, Ryan's handiwork.

The reason for this, apart from the fact that as his strength level continued to rise, Ip Man's status would no longer bring him the same level of points as before. It was also somewhat intended to pave the way for the subsequent appearances of Jiu You and Peng Lai later on. After all, after the previous two consecutive draws, Ryan's card deck was no longer short of strong characters. It was perfectly possible to play another game with them again and earn a wave of reputation points.

Looking up at the character cards in the system, Ryan's mindset shifted.

Pushing aside his previous worries, he started getting excited about the arrival of the Battle of New York.
