Chapter 10: Attack!
Koutaro finished his morning training and returned home. Today for some reason his mind was not remaining calm at all. He was really worried that something was going to happen today.
At home kaya welcomed him back, "Welcome back! koutaro nii, are you finished with your training?" asked kaya, with a bright smile on her face.
Koutaro gently smiled and rubbed her hair, making her purr. For some reason seeing this energetic smile of hers made him calm down.
And he planned to not dwell much into that.
"Yes I am done kaya -chan. So, what's for breakfast?" asked koutaro.
Kaya replied "It's our favourite, plum rice!" with sparkles.
' Yeah, Right, haa…..' since coming to this world, he forgot the taste of flavoured food. And this plum rice was the only thing which was available.
He doesn't know why kaya declared this as his favourite food? Like isn't it the only food they eat? ( mostly)
"Ara, you are back koutaro kun? Great come lets eat, breakfast is ready." hitomi's voice was heard.
"Yes," said koutaro.
"Hitomi! Are you inside!" Suddenly, a male voice was heard coming from outside.
"Hmm? It's the village chief. Why is he here?" pondered hitomi,confused.
When she opened the door, the village chief practically barged in.
"What's wrong chief? Why are you in such a hurry?" asked hitomi, slightly taken aback.
"There is no time hitomi! Hurry up, take the children, we have to leave the village!" said the village chief hurriedly.
"What!? Why?" asked hitomi with genuine surprise.
'what's happening' thought koutaro.
He knows the village chief a little; he was that kind, old grandpa type character who loved children. He was quite a wise person, so he shouldn't be saying something like this without a reason.
"Hitomi! One of our villagers has brought news, he said our nearby villages were attacked by a group of shinobis and that the villages were completely destroyed with all the villagers being killed! We don't have time, they will be attacking this place too. We have to run away before they arrive here!" he said all that in one breath. And now he was huffing for air.
Koutaro was completely shocked after hearing this.
'WHAT! Has the war already started? But is it not a bit earlier than expected? Or maybe some other shinobi village just wants to destroy these villages.' Koutaro quickly tried to deduct the most possible scenario.
'Damn! What should I do? I am not even half prepared to fight a ninja.' Koutaro was silently sweating over the fact that he had no ninjutsu. And he has no idea how strong the attacking ninjas are.
"Wh-what are y-you saying chief!? Why would they do something like that? We haven't even done anything to anger them!" while koutaro was pondering, hitomi asked the following to the village chief in a confused and scared voice.
"They don't need any reason! If they want they ca--"
*BOOM!*
Suddenly a loud boom was heard startling everyone.
"The-they are already here!!" said the chief, his expression becoming paranoid.
'HAH!? THEY ARE ALREADY HERE?? OH NO! FUCK IT!!'
They looked outside of the house, and saw at a distance one of the houses was on fire. People were running frantically with their lives.
Looking at the village, the village chief said " we-well I am going first! You guys should hurry too!" and he ran away.
"CHI-CHIEF!" Hitomi called from behind, but he didn't stop. He ran away. The kind, old and friendly type grandpa ran away. RAN AWAY.
'What should i do!?...What should i do!?....What should i do!?....What should i do!?' This was the only thought running in his mind. But even then he couldn't think of any solution.
Suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Koutaro kun come with me inside! You to kaya!"
Hitomi said and brought the two of them into one of the rooms. There was an old medium sized wooden chest, which could barely fit even one adult human.
"Koutaro kun! Kaya, you get in here! You will be safe here. I will go outside and figure out some place to hide! "
Koutaro's became wide and he looked at hitomi with a shocked expression.
"What do you mean hitomi -san!? If you go outside, they will find you and-"
But hitomi stopped him before he could say more. "Don't worry, I will be fine. You just get in here."
"B-but!!"
"Enough! Koutaro -kun, please believe me and get in there. You too kaya, honey, please hurry!"
"Ma-mama!! Please don't go outside!" kaya said with tears in her eyes.
The little girl was silent the whole time, but it's not like she doesn't understand the situation at all. But when her mother said she will separate from them and will go outside on her own, she couldn't hold back and burst into tears.
Hitomi hugged her and whispered, "Everything will be fine honey, believe just wait. You will listen to mama right?" she looked straight into kaya's eyes with a serious expression.
Kaya slowly nodded hesitantly, still crying.
"Good, now please hurry!" said hitomi with a kind smile on her face.
Koutaro and kaya got into the chest, reluctantly and bent down.
Hitomi hurriedly reached the corner of the room. And picked up a hand axe, before returning.
"Ok, then Koutaro kun keep this with you."
Hitomi said and revealed the hand axe to Koutaro.
"Hitomi san, this-"
"Keep it with you, If anything happens, use it"
Said hitomi.
"Ok, I am closing this alright? And remember don't open it and come outside. Understand?"
They both nodded.
Hitomi closed the chest but didn't lock it.
She hurriedly got outside, taking a last longing look at the wooden chest, tears forming in her eyes.
(a/n. The MC is not a schemer like shown in some stories, who can manipulate anything and everyone. He is just a normal teenager. What do you think you would do if you were in his place? He doesn't have a super system or crazy power *at least not yet * so basically a weakling. I will be developing him slowly.)
