Chapter 12: Illusions And Lies
Truly, it had been a long time since he had remembered things about his family. Indeed, what his family did seemed stupid to people out there but, his parents were proud of what they did. Although his family has been asked many times to move to a better district than this 25th district, but, they always refuse it because, if they move no one will care about the condition of the people in this district. At that time Rena found a garden, if you say the park is not right because what was there was damaged and not maintained and Rena invited her brother to accompany her to the place. At first he refused to go alone and let Rena go alone but, that afternoon when it was getting dark Rena didn't come home and he looked for where his sister was. Arriving at the park visited by Rena, she saw that her little sister was sitting on a swing surrounded by various colorful flowers. Luke remembers very well what happened that afternoon. When she called Rena's name, her sister immediately ran to her and gave her a yellow dahlia flower.
"R-Rena..." Luke who was looking at the dahlia flower turned his eyes to look for the girl who had just given him the flower.
"Rena!!" Luke shouted in the field of flowers.
He repeatedly shouted his sister's name 'Rena' and he ran here and there just to look for the girl who most likely had her sister. But, as far as his eyes could see there was not a single girl who gave him the flower. Luke returned to the path and at the end of the path he saw the girl had just entered a house.
"H-hey wait!!" Luke shouted as he rushed to the house. He arrived right in front of the fence of the house. Luke slowly opened the fence full of flowers that wrapped around the iron bars of the fence. He walked slowly and climbed one by one the stairs made of wood and he stood right in front of the entrance of the house. Luke was about to knock on the door when it suddenly opened by itself. Luke entered the house slowly and the door that had just opened closed by itself. Luke tried to open the door and it seemed it was locked.
The rooms in this house seem very foreign but feel nostalgic. There is no one in this house, only the furniture is not dusty.
"Hahaha..." Luke turned his gaze towards the source of the sound coming from the stairs leading to the 2nd floor. The girl was seen running up the stairs to the 2nd floor.
"Hey, wait!" Luke walked and slowly climbed the stairs that led to the 2nd floor of the house. When he got to the top he saw two rooms with closed doors on the left and two on the right. However, only one had the door open. The room at the end of the hall had the door slightly ajar. Luke slowly and warily walked towards the end of the hall. He peeked through the gap in the open door and saw that the girl was playing house with dolls. Luke slowly opened the door and as he tried to reach the girl. Suddenly, the world changed. This time the world was filled with fire and destruction. Where is this? What's going on? Luke frantically looked around him and all he could see were burned and destroyed cities. Luke heard a cry not far from where he was standing. It was the cry of a child.
"Hey!! Where are you!!" Luke shouted repeatedly as he ran here and there. Several times he was almost crushed by the rubble and also nearly hit by a burst of flames. Shortly after that he saw a small child and it turned out that the girl in the flower garden was crying in the ruins of the burning house.
"Hey, calm down I'm already here." Luke tried to reach the girl.
"Brother, why did you leave me?"
"That face?" Luke was surprised when the girl turned to him. That face, he remembered it so well he would never forget that girl's face.
"R-Rena?" That's right, it's his sister.
"Why did you leave me brother?"
"I'm not leaving you Rena," Luke tried to reach his little sister who was standing not far from where he was. "Come on, take my hand, let's get out of here Rena."
"Didn't you promise that you would always be by my side?"
"Of course I will always be by your side, let's reach my hand Rena."
Rena, just silent the girl did not give any response to what Luke said to her.
"No, brother, you broke your promise."
"What did you say Rena? Come on, take my hand!" Shortly after Luke spoke suddenly the ruins of the building hit Rena. "Renaaaaa!!!!"
Luke woke up and it was just a bad dream he had just had. However, the nightmare seemed real.
"Did you just have a bad dream partner?" The sword that was still lying on the table started talking to Luke again.
"No, I didn't have a bad dream."
"You really are a terrible liar."
"What do you mean?"
"Many times when you fell asleep you shouted your sister's name."
"Shut up, why are you meddling in my business?"
"No, I'm not interested in the business you have, just quite interested in where you're going while using the power I gave you."
"Don't bother telling him."
Luke looked out of his window and saw that the city was starting to be illuminated by the light projected from this dome. Looks like the sun has started to rise. Indeed, in this world we cannot see directly what the shape of the sun or moon and the stars is but, the dome that covers the city's ceiling projects the shape of the sky and clouds as if there was no fog. That's right, it's as if we humans live in a world full of illusions and lies. Luke got up from his bed and started doing some morning stretches.
After that he put on his jacket and took the sword that was on the table and left his room towards the elevator which was located in the hallway to the left of his room. Waited for a moment in front of the elevator and soon the elevator started to open and there was a girl inside.
"Can you get out of there?" Said the girl to Luke.
"Ah… Sorry." It turned out that the girl in the elevator was Charlotte and Luke who heard Charlotte's words shifted slightly to make room for the girl to get out of the elevator. The girl walked out of the elevator and stopped for a moment and turned to Luke who was about to enter the elevator.
"Didn't the Captain tell you to rest? Why did you bring your sword so early in the morning?"
"I couldn't sleep and wanted to go to the training ground."
"If I'm not mistaken your name is Luke, right?"
"Yeah, what's wrong with my name?"
"Since yesterday we didn't get to know each other properly, I introduce myself once again, my name is Charlotte Van Astrea."
"Van Astrea you say?"
