Chapter 14: Emergency

"Shit…" Luke said like that filled with frustration while gripping the wooden sword Kento gave him very tightly. During his time at the academy he always trained more than anyone else, from morning to night he continued to train his stance and swing his sword. However, this time he realized that the thing that distinguished him from Kento was the real experience. Real experience is what makes Kento strong. The man had probably gone through many missions and fought various vampires.

Kento's crushing defeat made Luke feel very frustrated. Indeed, it was just a practice using a wooden sword what if it was a real battle? What will happen if he really fights vampires whose powers are much stronger than ordinary humans? Damn, the more he thought about such things the more he filled himself with fear and uncertainty. Should he give up here and forget everything? Should he quit and become government employees or a company? Right now he was filled with such thoughts.

"Is that how frustrated you are when you feel a human defeat?" Said the voice that broke his mind. The sound came from the sword he had placed on the sword rack when he started fighting training with Kento.

"It's up to you what you want to say to me."

"I know you want to be strong but, if just one defeat leaves you like this. I think I'll be prepared to wait for the next user."

"Shut up, I don't need your direction."

"What people say is true. You can't be strong in just one night. Can't you see how many scars that man has on his body? Or are you just too blinded by revenge? To the point that you forget something important."

"Why are you even lecturing me? You're just a demon trapped in a sword."

"Right, I'm just a demon trapped inside a sword. But, I've been used by humans before you. I've seen a lot of how they fight. And you are among the many humans who have been contractors. You're the only one I think has potential."

"Potential you say? Didn't you see how many attacks I aimed at him and none of them hit him."

"Your experiences are definitely different, that person has gone through many battles and you, are still a naive human being."

What the sword said was true. That he is still far from strong. If he went to fight right now he wouldn't be able to defeat any of the vampires or eradicate them from this world let alone save Rena from their hands. Without thinking Luke stood up and started swinging the wooden sword he was gripping tightly to dispel the frustration.

"Damn!!!" Luke said it over and over while brandishing this wooden sword.

"You're the only one here Luke?"

A girl's voice was heard from the entrance of the practice room and Luke stopped swinging his sword and turned towards the source of the sound and it was Charlotte who was standing there.

"Yeah, sorry to disappoint you because I'm the only one here."

"Hey, don't tell me that your hobby always makes other people angry? I came here because I was worried about you, and it looks like my worries were real. You've been practicing combat with Kento haven't you?"

"Yeah, I trained in combat with that guy and lost badly to him."

"No wonder you look so messy."

"I'm grateful that you're worried about me Charlotte but, if your goal is just to make fun of me you'd better leave because I don't want to be disturbed during practice."

"Hey, I'm not making fun of you, you're the only one who thinks negatively like that. You know Kento isn't an easy person to beat especially for someone who just joined like you."

"Sorry for saying such nonsense it's just that I'm very frustrated at being defeated so easily by him."

"Don't think too much about it Luke. Your opponent is only slightly stronger than you and that's all. I don't know why you are so obsessed with being strong but, never sell your soul to demons because it will only cost you everything."

When the girl said that her face looked very serious when she said that as if she had experienced it and Luke just listened silently because he didn't dare to ask it because for him if he asked deeper questions like before he just felt if the question is like a line that he should not cross.

"Thanks for your advice Charlotte I will be careful using this power."

That girl has a point, in order to get great power Luke exchanged his soul for the demon to be strong so he could go outside the wall and look for Rena's whereabouts.

"Charlotte about that thing,"

"Don't think too much about it Luke. I understand how it feels to lose family so I understand how you feel. There is nothing wrong with the people from district 25 blaming our family."

"For me it was very disturbing and, I want to sincerely apologize. I'm just too emotional. So, I'm sorry Charlotte."

"Never mind other than that, how about you sit here." Charlotte motioned for Luke to sit next to her and saw that the girl was carrying a white box and there was a red plus sign above the box. Luke walked closer to Charlotte and started to sit next to the girl.

"Looks like uncle beat you pretty hard huh. Let me treat the wound on your face."

"Never mind this is not much."

"Hey, I'm very serious so, don't turn it down."

"Okay…"

Charlotte started to apply the wound cleanser to Luke's scratch face and after the girl gave it she put a bandage on the man's face.

"Okay, it's done."

"Thank you Charlotte."

"No problem Luke, by the way you are a good person huh."

"Huh? What do you mean by that?"

"There's no point, because I've treated your wound, so I just left because my purpose here was just to check if you're okay after being beaten by uncle."

"Thank you Charlotte."

Just as Charlotte was about to leave the practice room the alarm sounded signaling an emergency.

"Each personnel are expected to report to their respective squad commanders. This is not an exercise. Again, please report to your respective squad commanders." Say someone in charge of communications.

"What happened? Luke asked Charlotte who was about to head towards the elevator.

"Come follow me Luke."

Luke rushed to grab his sword and followed Charlotte who seemed to know where Captain Verin was.

"Hey, what happened?" Once again Luke asked Charlotte who was beside him.

"I don't know, it looks like it was a surprise attack from them."

It looks like the vampires are attacking this city again and Luke's palms are starting to get wet with sweat and his hands are shaking a little. After they got out of the elevator. You can see people walking in a hurry.

"Wait here, I want to talk first to find out where the Captain is."

Charlotte spoke to one of the officers who was supervising the preparations of the troops who were arming themselves and their combat vehicles on standby.

"Okay let's go Luke."

"Where to go? Didn't you ask where the Captain is?"

"Come on, let's go up."
