Chapter 5: Sorry

Connor sat there with a confused expression, he heard from Lisa that he had been sleeping there when he jolted awake. He could still feel the pain, blood and sweat of his "dream".

"Why did I return when I slept in that house and not when I slept on the ship? Was there something special about that house? Maybe there was some sort of condition I had to fulfill?" Connor thought to himself before he started to laugh, garnering the attention of the people around him again. "What am I thinking, it was probably a dream.. A too realistic one, but a dream nonetheless. I can't believe I thought I was transported to a new world for a second there" Connor thought before he laid back onto the sunlounger. Although he just woke up he felt some exhaustion. Will he be sent back if he sleeps again? This question appeared in Connor's head for a second before he ignored it, but he was still reluctant to fall asleep anyways. With a sigh, he stood up and started heading inside.

"Where are you going?" Lisa asked.

"Gonna go wear my swimsuit, I'm jumping in the pool.. Wanna join me?" He asked.

"Sure!" Lisa said before jumping up and jogging towards him. They both headed to their own room, wore their swimwear and headed back out.

After a while Connor was no longer sleepy, they both headed back to their rooms for a shower before going to the buffet.

Connor sat on the balcony, enjoying a cup of orange juice, waiting for Lisa to finish with her shower. He sat there enjoying the view when he heard a phone ringing. Looking over he saw Lisa's phone, he ignored it assuming she would answer when she got out, but it kept ringing as the messages did not stop. They were not constant but it seemed like 5 or 6 messages arrived one after the other. Connor knew that Lisa's parents were worrywarts and did not want their imaginations to go wild. Not wanting a repeat of the last incident he stood up, placed his orange juice on the small table next to him and entered the room. He picked up the phone and looked. He did not know she had her phone locked, so he could only look through the lock screen, seeing the name of the sender.

[Work]

Connor frowned. "Why would her work message her when she's on a vacation?" He thought. When he was about to put the phone down, Connor's eye caught a few words in the message, which did not seem very professional. So he read the first line as to read the rest he would need to unlock the phone.

[I missed you so much, I can't wait for you to…]

This made Connor's heart jump a little, but he quickly calmed himself down. "Maybe it's one of her friends from work?" He thought but acted differently. Connor went to the bathroom and knocked. Even though they're together he always liked to keep some boundaries.

"Yes?" Lisa answered. "Come in!"

"Hey Lisa, can you do me a favor?" Connor asked.

"Sure.. Why are you being weird?"

"I just dropped my phone and I think it's broken. Can I make a phone call from yours?" He asked. Before entering the bathroom Connor already swiped the notification away.

"Of course!" She said, peeking from behind the curtain. "Maybe you can join me after you're done" She winked at him, grabbing her phone and unlocking it. "Here you go"

Connor quickly left, standing outside the bathroom, hesitating. "This is an invasion of privacy right? Should I really do this? If it turns out to be nothing, what would I do? Tell her?... What if it's not nothing? What if she's been…" Connor took a deep breath, walking back to the balcony and sitting down. He gulped his orange juice down before he went to her messages.

[Work] [Mom] [Sam] [Rachel]...

Sam was her brother, while Rachel was her friend, but he was not here for either of them. Connor clicked on [Work] and started reading.

Connor stood up, placing the phone on the bed before he grabbed his suitcase and started packing his own stuff. It did not take long, as he barely unpacked in the first place and left the room, heading towards a staff that was walking by and spoke.

"I'd like another room please" Connor said.

"Was something wrong with the one you're currently staying in, sir?" He asked.

"Me and my girl broke up, can you take care of this for me please" Connor said.

"O..Of course, right away sir" The man moved and Connor quickly had a room of his own. He sat on the bed, his head cupped between his hands before ruffling his own hair. "It's ok.. Everything will be ok" He said, taking a deep breath. He left the room without even talking to her.. What was there to talk about exactly? The things Connor read on that phone completely broke all feelings he had for her.

After ten minutes of self pity, anger and then hate, Connor heard his phone ring.

[Lisa]

Connor grabbed the phone and answered it. He wouldn't ignore her and start a whole drama. He did not leave the room because he did not wish to face her or because he was running away, it was because he wanted to get this over with and let her finish her shower. It was an odd lack of feelings on his part but Connor had always been like this, never having issues with some overwhelming emotions, they were there, but not as dominant.

"Where did you go?" Lisa asked, confusion and some worry in her voice.

"I'm guessing when you opened your phone for me you either forgot or never thought that i would open your messages?" Connor said. "I know it was a bit too far on my part but i saw the message when it came and couldn't help myself"

"Connor, can you come back please? Let's talk!" She said after some silence, her voice low.

"I don't think there's any need for a talk Lisa, the reason why i left while you were still in the shower because i already knew the endgame of "the talk", it will be you crying and me leaving anyways so can we please skip all that?" He said.

"P..please!" She said.

Connor could hear her silent sob, but this did not move him. He knew that most of it was due to her emotions going haywire after being caught like that, realizing the changes that will happen to her life and the consequences of her actions.

"How long has it been?" Connor suddenly asked, breaking the silence. Although he felt numb and said that he did not wish to talk about it, he still deep down cared for her, after all it was not just a physical relationship. Lisa had been there for him and with him along the way, ever since he had that minimum pay job back when he was struggling in college.

"W..we started off as friends, he was kind and sweet so whenever we met at work he would greet me and chat a bit, but i have no idea how it happened.. After a team dinner I just ended up going back with him.. It happened a week ago.. I swear it only happened once and I was going to put some boundaries after we got back, I swear Connor" she said with tears. "Please come back"

"Lisa, you know very well that I had a tough childhood and how hard it is for me to trust people" Connor said. "We were together in everything, you were the only person that attended my graduation, you were the only person that celebrated with me when i got my first apartment, my first car, my first official job" He continued, his voice breaking once in a while. "I don't know what I did or didn't do.. But I'm sorry!"

"P..Plea..Please Don't!" Lisa said as she sobbed. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. plea..."

"I hope you find happiness, Lisa" Connor said. "I truly do.. I'm happy that I met you.. You made me a better person… But we're over.. Goodbye"
