Chapter 3: Research
Gel didn't waste his time locking the door behind him. It's not like it mattered anyway, who would want to steal blood-covered furniture. He went on his phone and entered the airport's website to change the time his flight back would be. It charged him more money but he didn't care, he needed to get home by tonight since that was when his pod would be delivered and when the game servers would launch.
After changing the flight to 6 PM which was in about 5-4 hours, he called another Uber to the airport. He didn't want a repeat of this morning and decided to get there as early as possible.
He waited about 10 minutes for the Uber to arrive and entered the car. He heard the Uber say something to him but he didn't respond, he was researching anything he could about the game. If he was serious about this he would have to try his hardest.
Although he knew a lot about the hardware of New Creation, he didn't know about the community and the game itself. He surfed the internet and looked at the various guilds that were preparing for this game. The super guild, "Reach the Heavens", which is based in Breakdon, bought 1 million copper gaming pods for its guild.
This was crazy to him, that was 10 billion credits gone like that! He worked for a whole year and was still barely able to afford a single copper pod. Hell, he was only able to buy the game because of a college student discount, yet this super guild was just throwing money around like it was trash.
Gel knew that super guilds were loaded...but this was ridiculous. This made him sure of something, he had to make his own guild. Groups of people are a lot more powerful than one person. No matter how cool it would be to face a guild with only one person, it was unrealistic.
While he was looking at the other guilds' standing in the real world and game world, his Uber had made it to the airport.
Gel turned his phone off and entered the airport, and the place was packed. There were more people than square feet in this place, 'Thank goodness I came here way early.'
He entered the sea of people, and maneuvered his way to security. He took one look at the line and knew it was gonna be a while before he would make it out of security. He entered the line and while waiting looked at his phone more, and got the gist of how the guilds worked.
Guilds were ranked from copper to super, from least to best it went like this, copper, silver, gold, diamond, super, and there were different ranks in between those ranges as well, like semi-super guilds.
It was an interesting system to Gel, but it was the system he would have to claw his way up, in just one game. Although he was nervous that he wouldn't be able to do it, he made a decision and he would stay by it no matter what happened.
After hours of researching every guild he could, he got through security. He made his way over to the zone his flight was located and by the time he sat down to wait for his flight to be ready, he only had an hour until it was time to board the plane.
Gel thought about the past hours, it made him chuckle a little bit. The way the world worked was funny, just yesterday his plans, world-view, goal, and even personality were different. Just one event sent his world in a spiral, he began to wonder if he was insane now. He felt like he got past his family being kidnapped by the government way too fast, maybe it was just his brain protecting him from actually going insane.
Gel quickly made himself stop thinking about it, he didn't want to stop whatever was happening to him right now because, at the very least, he was a little mentally stable. He went back on his phone and started to look up and find anything he could about New Creation.
Leaks, trailers, anything he could get his hands on, he consumed. There were a couple of trailers for the game, the first one was just them showcasing the vast world they had created.
The second one was similar to the first one, but the third one had a game developer talking about the game. Gel listened to it closely, he didn't want to miss a single word.
"New Creation is unique in many ways, the most prevalent being, of course, the 100% realism this game will bring to you. Many other features make this game unique though. Every NPC you see, and any monster you meet on the battlefield have their own unique thoughts. The AI we use for the NPCs and monsters is a completely new creation of ours, pun intended, we call it 'Falcon'."
"The great thing about Falcon is that it uses barely any resources, which is why we are able to use it for every NPC and monster in New Creation. Basically what this means for gamers is NPCs will act very similar to any human you would meet in real life, so don't expect to say what you want and still get a quest from them."
"The last big feature about New Creation that I will be allowed to say before release is about runes. Runes are the most important thing in this game, it would be a mistake to think that equipment would be able to make up the gap of runes. The most I can say about runes are that they will grant things like skills, extra stats, and even stats that you can't make better with just leveling up, for example, stealth or damage absorption."
"That's about all I can say, you will have to figure the rest out, oh wait one more thing. Make sure to have fun while playing. That will be all, see you all later!"
The trailer was short but full of information that was very important to Gel. He didn't know about this new AI Falcon, it was almost as revolutionary as 100% realism! This was big for him, he would get a huge advantage for this change of AI for NPCs
The big guilds already have experience in full dive games, unlike him, but this difference means they can't use the lines they normally would for quests. The rune thing was also interesting, and he wondered how it would work in the game.
While Gel was lost in thought thinking of how he would use the new features to his advantage, his flight was ready to board people.
