Chapter 117: Chapter 118 : Hokage's Thoughts!

Sarutobi Hiruzen gazed somberly at the delegation from the Land of Whirlpools, particularly Kazuhiko, who regarded him with kindness.

Hiruzen harbored an even stronger dislike for him, but with everyone present, especially those from the esteemed clans, he had to feign generosity toward Kazuhiko and his entourage.

From the moment he awoke in the hospital bed, he understood that he had been defeated. He had confidently challenged Kazuhiko, intending to assert his dominance and teach him a lesson, only to find himself on the receiving end of a humbling experience.

Underestimating the Uzumaki clan's head proved to be his downfall. Whether it was due to a potent ninja tool or the genuine strength of Kazuhiko, the outcome was clear – he lost the competition and relinquished control of the four islands. It was a resounding failure for a Hokage, a defeat for Konoha.

As he regained consciousness, he immediately contemplated the repercussions of his loss to Kazuhiko, particularly on a political level. At his level, victory and defeat extended beyond mere physical strength; they encompassed political consequences.

He was certain that his shrewd ally, Danzo, took advantage of his comatose state. Danzo wouldn't let this opportunity slip by and would undoubtedly capitalize on his renewed influence, potentially gaining support from other elders.

The mere thought of the political ramifications gave Sarutobi Hiruzen a headache.

The individual responsible for this predicament stood before him – Kazuhiko, who now wore a kind expression while surveying, the Uzumaki Clan Head.

The recent forced signing of the island transfer treaty in public added insult to injury. Hiruzen had hoped to delay the signing, but Kazuhiko's cunning maneuvers forced his hand, resulting in a loss of political capital before the watching elders.

Though the island might have seemed inconspicuous, the fact that they were unfamiliar with it meant that, upon signing the final transfer treaty, blame would be directed squarely at Hokage.

For the elders, it represented compensation for personal errors and a justification to seize political resources. The delicate balance between Hokage and the elders, a constant competition for political influence, now teetered in an unfavorable direction.

If the Hokage is too strong, the elders' influence diminishes. Conversely, if the Hokage is weaker, the elders seize some of the Hokage's authority.

This power dynamic isn't unique to Konoha; it extends to other villages, like the Third Mizukage, who fell victim to political exploitation.

Sarutobi's predicament became certain after the Third Mizukage's defeat by Kazuhiko. Upon his return to Kirigakure, Sarutobi's political standing suffered, necessitating compromises with the village elders. His current plight mirrored this loss of political capital.

Political capital, once lost, is challenging to regain, imposing a burden on future generations if they lack strength. Sarutobi Hiruzen grappled with a throbbing headache, reminiscent of the stab wound on his face, intensified by the realization that recovering lost political standing would be an arduous task.

This dire situation fueled Sarutobi's growing resentment toward Kazuhiko. However, Kazuhiko, equipped with Rinnegan, perceived this animosity. Enhanced eyesight and Observation Haki allowed him to discern the deep-seated hostility aimed at him.

...

Nevertheless, Kazuhiko remained indifferent. He considered earning the hatred of his enemies a testament to his success. His primary focus was securing tangible benefits for the Land of Whirlpools, irrespective of the animosity directed his way.

Anticipating future confrontations with Sarutobi Hiruzen and Danzo, Kazuhiko remained undeterred. He harbored a newfound ability, manifested as glowing particles between his fingers—an augmentation of his Glint Fruit (Kizaru template).

Buoyed by this development, Kazuhiko maintained a positive outlook. His visit not only reassured the Uzumaki elders but also secured control over the Four Islands. Returning, he intended to claim the Land of Whirlpools officially.

Observing Tsunade and Orochimaru's weariness, Kazuhiko excused himself from Sarutobi Hiruzen's presence, claiming a need to reprimand the clan elders. Hiruzen, wearing a darker expression, nodded reluctantly.

Approaching Tsunade, Kazuhiko asked, "We're heading back. Would you like to come with us?"

Tsunade, exchanging a weary glance with Sarutobi Hiruzen, received a nod of approval. However, a thoughtful gleam in the Third Hokage's eyes hinted at underlying concerns.
