Chapter 4: Chapter 4: First Encounter
Zeus found himself once again sprinting through the forest. Thanks to the very co-operative Magma Grunt, he had a general direction in which the Pokemon they managed to injure was.
He even managed to grab some new clothes, replacing his previously shredded outfit behind. He borrowed some of the signature Team Magma red pants he found on the helicopter that survived the explosion but decided against taking the red hoodie with their logo. Last thing he wanted was to be mistaken for a Magma Grunt. Instead he settled for taking a plain black t-shirt.
After running for a few more minutes and yet again finding himself short on breath, Zeus started to see signs of this injured Pokemon. The tops of the trees were snapped where a large entity had hit them as well as seeing some of the leaves showing patches of red blood.
Zeus 'Looks like whatever it was was flying in this direction before succumbing to its injuries and crashed down ahead, I should approach slowly from here on out as it might be hostile.'
Zeus slowed down and carefully made his way forward, until he came across the sight of another crash landing. No matter how much he prepared himself mentally on the way over, he was still shocked by what he saw.
Zeus 'So this is a Pokemon, and a very strong one at that. This thing could take out an army from his previous world, no problem.'
In the clearing in front him, lay a massive blue scaled dragon with 2 giant red wings in the shape of axe heads. It was lying on its side taking short and sharp breaths and it was clear to see why. One of those red wings was completely shredded and there was a long bloody gash along its side as well as many other smaller cuts all over its body.
Zeus 'So this is a Pokemon, and one referred to as a Pseudo-Legendary due to its strength. Salamence'
As fascinated as he was with the creature, he suddenly noticed something else which caused him to feel something that he was all too familiar with, Rage. He knew Team Magma was a criminal organization and had done their fair share of evil deeds. Hell, Zeus had probably done things many times worse, but he had a bottom line, and that was he would never harm a family.
Zeus knew the importance of it all too well, family was the only reason he was still alive and sane after all. And as he observed the tiny bipedal dragon next to the Salamence, trying to shake it awake, weeping as it failed to do so, he wished he had done more to that Magma Grunt who was 'just following orders'.
This rush of rage caused him to accidentally release his killing intent which immediately gave his position away to the pair of dragons in front of him.
The Salamence whipped its head in his direction and started growling, using all its strength to get up and put the small Bagon behind it.
The sudden movement surprised Zeus and he hurriedly reeled in his killing intent, and as he was already discovered, stepped out from his hiding place with his arms up and his hands empty showing he was unarmed and meant no harm to the duo.
The Salamence did not take its eyes off him and kept growling, gritting its fangs through the immense pain it was feeling, but still protecting its child.
<POV CHANGE: Salamence>
The physical pain was the worst I had ever felt in my life. I couldn't feel one of my wings and I was losing stamina every second as my blood spilled out from the horrendous wound on my side where I was hit with one of those exploding projectiles the humans used.
But this pain was nothing compared to the pain I felt when I realized that I would not be able to protect my daughter for much longer.
I could hear her cries, her telling me that we need to leave in case the bad red humans came for them.
I knew we had some time, I was able to take out their flying contraption a few kilometers back and knew that by the time they got to this location, I would have long passed on.
As I was about to convince my daughter to leave me and save herself, I sensed a large amount of killing intent from the trees in front of me. I was no stranger to killing intent. I had felt it from many family members and rival clans, but they paled in comparison to what I felt now. Whoever was there, was by far the most dangerous creature I had ever met.
I had to buy time for my daughter, even a few seconds for her to run away would be enough.
Receiving my second wind, I immediately got to my feet and forgot about all the pain I was in. Pushing my daughter behind me, I signaled for her to run but she was too stubborn, just like her Mother.
I set my intimidation to maximum as I glared in the direction I felt the killing intent. It soon receded and from behind the tree I was growling at, walked out a…. Human?!?!
How can a human have that much killing intent, what kind of monster is he?
I felt hopeless once again. A monster like this would not let them go.
But his posture, his hands, he was approaching too slowly and showing no aggression.
I was about to grab my daughter and use the last of my strength to escape. But then the human started speaking.
Human "I can feel your pain. The pain of not being able to protect your loved ones. I've felt it too"
These words shocked me! How could a barbaric human know what I was going through now. I could feel my strength fading but it didn't matter, I kept my vigilance up to see what else this human had to say.
Human "I spent my entire life protecting my sister, she was everything to me, and one day she was taken from me by a very evil man, I wasn't able to protect her, and eats me up inside"
I was slightly stunned. Does this human actually know what I'm going through, the feeling of failing to protect family?
Human "I have been through a lot in my life, done many things I'm not proud of, all in the name of protecting her, and looking back on it now, I would do it again in a heartbeat."
Those words resonated with me. I was so engrossed with what he was saying that I didn't notice that he had been slowly approaching me the whole time and right now he was an right in front of me. And before I knew it, he placed his hand on my head.
Human "I'm sorry"
And that was the straw that broke the Camerupt's back. All my vigilance, my strength left me as I collapsed. I heard my daughter still behind me shout at the human and made a dash to defend me, thinking he hand done something to me.
But as I collapsed, the Human caught my head as it fell. He sat down and placed my head on his lap and just sat there stroking me. It had been a long time since I had felt a loving touch like this, It was like I was a Bagon again, chasing my father and telling him about how one day, I will soar the skies with him as a Salamence.
My daughter, seeing what was happening, stopped her charge towards the human but kept up her vigilance and she also came and started stroking my head with the human. Seems I taught her well.
You might think me mad for letting down all my walls and defenses in front of a human after just a few words, but there was something about his eyes. In them, I saw immense pain, pain that very few people could carry with them. It was that pain that made me believe him.
I lay there as I for the final moments of my life as the human started to speak again.
Human "You must know there is nothing I can do for you right now, I cannot save you, but I can fulfill your wish. I am on my own path of Vengeance to seek out the man that took my sister from me. I will need to be strong to do so. And your child will also need to be strong if she is to avenge you.
I knew what he was asking, and I was hesitant to agree but I opened my eyes and looked at my daughter who was still stroking me.
Salamence "My daughter, this human, he has the strength to take care of you, he can help you grow stronger, make you into a mighty Salamence. Even stronger than your mother, but I will leave the decision up to you. But promise me, no matter what, you will become strong. Strong enough that nothing will be able to take that which you love."
Bagon "No Mom, I'm not going anywhere, I'm staying with you, we can still get away, those bad men haven't come yet…"
Salamence "Promise me!"
Bagon "*sniffle*, I… I promise…"
I sighed, I used the last of strength to lift up my head one final time as I looked at the human, then at my daughter, then back at the human.
As my final act, I nodded at the human, entrusting my child's fate to his hands. Then I finally let go, and let the darkness claim me.
<POV CHANGE: Narrator>
Zeus felt the life of the Salamence slip away. The Bagon next to him was clearly holding back tears as it watched one of its parents die. Zeus didn't say anything, there was nothing he could say. Instead he simply started stroking the head of the tiny dragon and as soon as he did, the Bagon leapt into his lap and let loose the floodgates.
This was a new experience for Zeus, he had never had to comfort a grieving child before and was unsure of what to do. So he just sat there and held the crying Bagon as it mourned its parent's death.
He didn't know how long he sat there, he just sat in silence and eventually realized that at some point, the crying had stopped and all that was left in his arms was a sleeping dragon.
Zeus stood up, careful not to wake Bagon, and turned to the corpse of the once mighty Salamence.
Zeus "I promise, I will raise you child into the strongest Salamence the world has ever seen, and together, we will crush the bastards who did this to you."
He gave a slight bow to the corpse before his steeled his resolve, and walked into the forest carrying his first Pokemon.
