Chapter 87: News 1
Present Day...
Apathy POV:
The weather was still quite chilly. But oddly enough even though the area over the land was cool the sea was relatively warm.
I was making my way towards the docks. I had just bought some cooked food for the first day or so of the trip. So we wouldn't have to deal with Belle's poor cooking skills so early on.
Come to think of it...She's barely ate since Will left. Only speaking to us when she absolutely has two and keeping it to a few words maximum. I think she might blame herself that Will was taken. Maybe if she was a little faster Will could have escaped. But we all know in front of that being we were powerless. She just has yet to accept that.
The tide was quite high this early in the morning so I dipped my hands into the water and made a little cyclone with my fingers.
The island had gotten alot better. After the factory closed and the slaves were freed people started to behave a bit more lively and less robotic. Even without the fruit being the main focus of the island the people here still thrived off of the tourists that came to see the island's natural beauty. Vendors still sold the fruit but they made sure to keep it at a fair and affordable price.
Alot has changed since Will disappeared. I look up to the ship to see Davie. He has become alot quieter and instead of staring at women he spent most his time tending to the new ship. The entire ship got a full makeover. It barely looked like the old one.
It had a name tattooed on its side. Lines of black and blue waves weaved in and out of each other on the pristine white canvas of hull. On the side written in jagged bold text was
"The Voyager."
The masts were fixed and the sails were replaced with a white material that had the symbol of Will's compass embroidered onto it.
The cat lady that Belle met was aparently the original owner of the ship. It seems she restored it back to her former glory. Now I understand why she wanted to be the soul shipwright. It was her own fucking ship in the first place. Sigh...We got scammed. Well, i guess we got lucky....Lucky. Im beginning to hate that word now because thats all we've been from the start of this journey with Will's lucky...I don't want to survive off luck. I don't want to thrive off luck.Because one day it might just run out...
I stopped twirling my fingers in the water. As I stopped I noticed a few fish were staring up at my reflection in the water. Their eyes seemed I don't know I couldn't put my finger on it but it was strange.
I looked around. I saw some of the kids that will saved running around and smiling. I looked around and smiled. This is what he did. This is what kind of person he is. Uses his commanding yet funny personality to get close to those he meets. Its as if he's the protagonist of a novel. Saving the day even when he doesn't have to. Saving me...even when he didn't have to.
" Apathy...Apathy!! Come check this out...."
I turn around to see Davie holding a newspaper and I start to notice that everyone's expression around me has subtly changed. Some it was happy some it was surprise. Others there was fear. I ran to our boat and climbed up on deck.
POV END
There were crates of food and barrels of clean drinking water. Belle was laying on a lawn chair right below the mast. Her expression was blank but it seemed she was waiting for Davie to say whatever he had too.
Davie read the pages out loud.
As I walked up to the paper I could see the paper was called GSN...
