Chapter 20: Battle of Plataea!

The army was large, nearly over 40,000 men all together. And yet despite its vast numbers I could hear clearly a very familiar tale.

" Remember us. He said to me. That was his hope. Should any free soul come across that place. In all the countless centuries yet to be. May all our voices whisper to you, from the ageless stone. Go tell a Spartans passerby, that here. By Spartan Law. We lie. And so, my King died. And my brothers died. Nearly a year ago today. Long I pondered my kings cryptic talk of victory. But time has proven him wise. For from free Greek! To free Greek! The word was spread! That bold Leonidas and his three hundred, so far from home, laid down their lives! Not just for Sparta! But for all Greece! And the promise this country holds." I heard that voice and knew it all too well. He was fulfilling our kings last orders. Dillios, my friend.

I did not speak; I did not interrupt him. Instead, I listened as he did what he did best.

" Now, here on this ragged patch of earth called Plataea, Xerxes hordes face OBLITERATIOOOOOON!!!" Dillios screamed.

" AWHOO! AWHOO! AWHOO!" I raised my spear and joined my brothers in our chant for the first time in a year. I could feel it once again, the Spartan blood flowing through me. An entire year of battling these strange things happening to me. To fighting Gods. And Training with them. But now, for the first time in so very long. I feel it again. I FEEL IT!

" Just there the barbarians huddle, sheer terror gripping tight, their hearts with icy fingers -- knowing full well what merciless horrors they suffered at the swords and spears of 300. Yet, they stare now across the plain at 10,000 Spartans! Commanding 30,000 free Greeks!" Dillios turned towards us and raised his spear high. " AWHOO!"

" AWHOO! AWHOO! AWHOO!" We all chanted once again. Our voices so loud they drown out Zeus thunder.

Feeling the intensity. The heat of the moment. The Thrill. I step forward. I walked through the men, and they stared at me. Their eyes wide in shock. I could feel it.

" The captain."

" Captain Timaeus."

" He's alive."

The whispers and murmuring of my brothers drew Dillios' attention. He turned to me and smiled.

" My brother. Seems we've both a story to tell." Dillios spoke.

" For later. For now, we have a battle to win." I told the man.

" The floor is all yours captain." Dillios spoke.

" No, my friend. This is your tale. See it through till the end."

Dillios looked at me and after a moment he nodded.

" The enemy outnumber us a paltry 3 to 1, good odds for any Greek. This day we rescue a world from mysticism and tyranny, and usher in a future brighter than anything we can imagine." Dillios spoke. He moved his spear over to his other hand and placed his helmet on top his head.

" Here captain." One of the soldiers tapped me on the back and handed me a spare helmet.

I looked the man in his eyes and nodded. Fighting so hard to hold back the tears behind mine. My eyes flickered. I took the helmet and threw it on top of my head. For the first time in so long, I was a Spartan once more.

" GIVE THANKS MEN! TO LEONIDAS AND THE BRAVE 300! TO VICTORRRRYYYYYYYY!!!!!!" Dillios shouted. His voice loud and powerful. He led the charge towards the Persians.

" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" We all shouted as we rushed towards the horde of Persians, their numbers so large the ground beneath them invisible. yet still we charge.

I take the lead, I run as fast as I can, leaving Dillios and the Greek army behind.

" AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!" I shouted. I raised my spear and ran headfirst into the Persian army. Bodies flying everywhere, I strike. I cover my spear in a quake bubble and swing it. The sky cracks and a wave of destruction rushes out from the point of impact. The endless wave of Persians in front of me is Parted momentarily. I swung my spear around and the force of it shattered the shields of the Persians rushing me. I spun around and slashed them across the chest with my spear.

Each time I kill a man, a hundred more of them fill the spot. His army is unending. Even as I sit here and slaughter them they still come unending.

I swing my spear around and slam it into the ground. I raise my fist into the air and my muscles expand.

" GGRRAAAAAH!" I swung my fist so hard it felt like my muscles would tear off of my arm.

* Crack!

The air around my fist cracks and a massive wave of destruction rushes out from my fist. This wave spreads larger than my previous ones as I put more force into this one.

The ground trembles and tears apart. Persians and Immortals alike falling to their deaths.

" SPARTANS! Follow me! And destroy the Persians!"

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

I pick up my spear and run forward again. Each and every Greek behind me ready to die for the sake of our country.

I twirl my spear around and jump into the air. My eyes turn a hazy white. I summon another quake bubble. And as I land, I slam the spear into the ground. The earth cracks open and the ground splinters more. The destruction that rushes out, not only pulverizes but slashes and tears open the flesh of the Persians.

Their magicians launch balls of fire and lightning at me. I raise my spear and summon another quake bubble. I strike out at the magic attacks and my quake cuts them in half.

The monsters of Xerxes army come out. Beast with four arms. Beastmen, animals that walk on two legs. Creatures made of the earth itself.

I meet these creatures head on.

The four-armed monster wields four blades. Each a different shape and meant for different things. It does not matter. I slam my shield into the beast's chest, and he drops. Dead. A mere strike and I could kill a man of his size.

The beastman approaches next. His body like that of a large Lion, his fangs sharp and claws larger than my own head. I grab my spear and I thrust it through his chest, piercing his heart and killing him instantly.

The creature made of earth sees this and fear rushes through his body. He turns around to flee, but like we are taught. No Prisoners. No Mercy. I raise my spear and throw it with as much force as I could muster. My spear pierce through the creatures hard exterior. But he kept moving. So, I raised my free hand and once again struck out with a quake. The creatures body explodes into pieces. I walk up to the dead thing and retrieve my spear.

I raise it to the sky and let out one loud and thunderous roar.

" RAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!" The ground shakes, and the ocean nearby roars.

Mardonius, leader of this Greek contingent, fears for his life. His sweat spilling onto the floor.

This is it. Do you see us Artemis? Stelios? Do you see us, Leonidas? Victory is just within our grasp.

" Spartans! AWHOO!"

" AWHOO! AWHOO! AWHOO!"

The Spartan army suffers casualties. Yet still we stand strong.

We continue our final push back against Xerxes and his men.

XxX

Do you see this lady Hestia? The Spartans. The Greek. Their winning."

" Yes, my dear. And he is thriving. More so than I could have imagined. This warms my heart to see my nephew so happy." Hestia spoke " I can shove this right up Poseidon's..."

" MY LADY! Urgent news!" One of Hestia's maidens shouted as sh ran into Hestia's chambers.

" What is it?" Hestia asked in a panic

" The Amazons are under attack!"

" By who?!"

" Triton and Kymopoleia mistress!"

" Oh no! Send word to Hercules quickly!" Hestia ordered. " And you, take this to the boy and guide him to Amazonia." Hestia ordered. She reached into a box and pulled out a golden trident. " There I will meet with him. Hercules was supposed to take him there from Athens, but things have changed. Go quickly!"

XxX

" Keep Pushing men! We're almost there!" I shouted. The end of the enemies soldiers was well in sight. We had them pushed back onto the beach, the only thing left to do was kill them all and burn their ships. Once that was done Greece's victory will be complete.

I raise my spear and summon a quake bubble. " Who wants to die next?" I asked the Persians.

" He's going to do it again!"

" Look out!"

I swung my spear and cleaved the ground in front of me in twain. The wave of destruction rushed out and engulfed the Persians and their ships within its mighty reach. The ocean itself parted way under my might.

We rushed the Persians. One last time. Our numbers dwindled down only to 35,000. Meaning there was five thousand dead Greek. But that number greatly paled in comparison to the hundreds of thousands that Xerxes had lost.

With their led forces dead, the remaining Persians fell quickly. we killed and killed until there was finally no one left. Until we had done it. We had won.

We raised the torches and all together we burned the Persian ships to the ground.

" GREECE! WE ARE VICTORIUS!!!!!"

" RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

Our shouts of victory shook the heavens themselves. Without a doubt, the gods above heard our cries.
