after asking a little more about why the salt was black I offered to cook him up a meal . now , I wasn't too delighted about the idea but I wanted to get a feel of how backward they were culinary wise, and no better way to test that than getting down and dirty right.
not to mention by the way he was handling the meat it's clear he doesn't know how to cook , I'd rather be safe than sorry .
anyways he agreed and so I begun preparing the meat , I asked if he had any other seasoning and he gave me a leaf thing that smelled like chilli .
" where you found this plant was there a red fruit bearing on it ???? you know small in size and straight looking?? "
ml : yes there was , but it can't be eaten it's poisonous, your mouth gets on fire after you eat it and turn all red and swollen very bad "
" oh I see next time can you pick some back , for me , please ??"
ml : uh why I said it's bad and poisonous can't eat "
" don't worry I won't eat it directly I'll use it to make the meat more delicious "
after conversing a bit I decided to end the conversation and focus on what I had on hand , which was cooking this meat of course.
he didn't have anything remotely close to a pot so I had to use a relatively thin stone slate and use it as a medium to fry the fat off the pork like meat he gave me .
after heating up the stone slab I lowered the fat on it and there cane that satisfying sizzle we all love so much . moving that fat around on the slate to make sure it was properly oiled I then proceeded to fry the pork strips I prepared earlier after ehem finished with all that needs to be done I added the chili leaves to give it that pungent spicy flavor let me tell you it was kicking, lol .
we finished eating and once again started talk about some random stuff I most say he's quite fun to talk to , not to mention I was getting some inside information on the tribe from him not anything considered important as he still seems weary of me but , you never know when this will info can become vital . all in all it was a good day .
" oh yeah , I saw some people wearing linen clothes today , I'm curious where they got them ??? if you don't mind "
ml : I don't, it's not secret once every new moon we go to other tribes to exchange goods , the females you saw asked there's male partners to get them . those who wear them are fairly well off in the tribe so not everyone can afford them "
" oh I see , when's the next new moon ?? " I asked
ml : uh ten nights from now ?"
he said that as if unsure, hmm , anyways I guess I'll try and bring something to that place to scope out their market , if they let me go of course, so I better get working my ass off and prepare something before they are ready .
" by any chance could I go when you guys are going to the exchange event ??"
ml : idk you have to ask chief , I can't make that decision ."
" oh ok I see , any ways good night " I said as I stood up in place , as I was about to turn and head in I halted " um , am I sleeping in the room I woke in or ??" I probed
ml: yes that's your room for now . "
he said then smirked ? must be my eyes , oh well I am tired so it might , I better get going before zero loses its cool .
and so came the scene where Zero was explaining .
'hmm I hope tomorrow goes well ' were Meraline's last thought before dozing off .
