Chapter 3: Chapter 2
Scarlett hates the queen. Scarlett hates her mom.
Ray followed his sister, who had already gone to the queen's room. When they arrived, their mom was busy arranging something on her glossy silver desk.
"What is it, mom?" Ray asked, even though he already knew why they were called.
Their mom continued to arrange her things. "I heard what both of you did."
"It's only natural that we interfere," Scarlett said.
Ray really looks up to her older sister. She can speak to their mother with an unbothered tone. Meanwhile, Ray can now feel that he's sweating through the cold weather. He's nervous, obviously.
The royal family knows about the mistreatment and exploitation of commoners in the Common City. The queen isn't bothered at all, or, as we could say, she doesn't really care. She only wants money.. and power. Since she could also benefit from it. Most of their slaves are from "that" city.
Noble City doesn't have slaves after all. This city and its people are rich enough not to make themselves work for someone else.
"They have the right to do whatever they want. They are our citizens, Scarlett," the queen insisted.
"And so are the people in Common City. Have you forgotten they are part of your kingdom?"
Ray slightly gasped when the queen threw one of the things she was arranging on the floor. It was a billion-worthy music box.
"Scarlett! Have you forgotten what that shitty city did to me?!" The elegant aura the queen was emitting is now replaced with madness.
"Not all of them did you wrong. They still deserve your service."
"They did me wrong, and they will pay for it!" The queen insisted again.
Scarlett clicked her tongue, her signature habit. It's a sign she is starting to feel annoyed.
"Please stop bringing your personal issues into how you manage your kingdom. This isn't a children's play. You're a grown woman and a queen."
Ray wanted to clap his hands, but he didn't. His sister is really something.
Scarlett stormed out of the room with a blank expression on her face. She's upset.
"Don't say a fucking word, Ray. I had enough today." The queen massaged her temple after.
"Try listening to her sometimes, mom."
"Ray!"
"I was just joking."
Ray followed her sister and went outside.
Scarlett returned to her room, frustrated.
"Your highness! Welcome back!"
Her mood brightened a bit. She almost forgot she hired a personal maid, which is a first.
"Have you eaten?" Scarlett noticed the commoner was still pale.
Zuha nodded. She lied. The truth is, she doesn't know what to eat and decided to wait for the princess.
Scarlett realized, and she stood up. "I'll cook. Wait here."
Zuha shook her head. "Your highness! Let me do it! "She quickly went to the kitchen.
She realized she stood closer to the princess and moved away.
"Just sit and wait. This is your first day working here. I'll cook for you."
Zuha tearfully smiled.
What a sight. Princess Scarlett bit her lower lip while staring at the commoner. She's now sure of it; she's the prettiest of all the women Scarlett laid her eyes on.
