Chapter 40: Why is she ignoring me?

But there was still this nagging feeling in his heart that something was not right, so he decided to test it out. He called Rain on the intercom and asked her for a cup of coffee.

In the next few hours, he asked her to bring him coffee again and again. By the end of the nineteenth cup, dark clouds were hovering over the entire Apexi corporation. The employees were on their heels and dared not make any mistake. They has already witnessed two of their top executives on the verge of tears while leaving their president's office and paid extra attention to their work in case they become the next target.

In the president's office, dark clouds were looming above Elliot's head as he scolded his third victim of the day. "Is this the way you do work? It is wastage of the salary and workspace that the Apexi corporation is providing you. Just resign if you are unable to do even this simple task. Get out of my sight and redo this presentation. If you do not do this properly this time then you are fired."

Frustrated, he asked Rain for another cup of coffee which was soon delivered to him which pissed off Elliot even more. If it was before, Rain would have started to nag him after he had his eighth cup of coffee and there after she would have brought him a glass of juice even if he asked for coffee.

But today that was not the case. Rain had delivered him over twenty cups of coffee, and he believed that she would still obediently bring him another cup if he asked for one. His heart dropped. He instantly called his best friend to assess the situation.

Elliot quickly recounted everything to Li Yang and then "Do you think that I did something wrong unknowingly that she is behaving this way. Why is she ignoring me? Do you think she hates me now? Did I bring shame to her? What do you think I lack that she is ignoring me? Or do you think…." Elliot asked, close tears.

Hearing his friend pratting on his misfortune, Li Yang was flabbergasted. Never in his life had he thought that he would one day see his friend behaving like this. Now he had seen enough in his life. Life sure was full of surprise packages. Inhaling deeply, he stopped his friend, "Calm down Elliot. Just calm down. I think you are overreacting. Maybe she is in a bad mood. Or maybe it is that time of the month. It has just been one day alright. Don't jump to conclusion so soon. It's just a cup of coffee.

"Twenty, Yang. Twenty! It's twenty cups of coffee not just one. And she called me boss today. Not Kai like what she used to" Elliot whined.

Li Yang felt a headache. He took a deep breath and said, "Yes, yes. It's twenty cups of coffee". As he spoke, Li Yang felt that something was not right. But then again, ever since his friend met Rain, nothing was right with him. He ignored his thoughts and cajoled his friend. "Just wait it out, okay? Considering it to be her mood swing during her periods, give it three more days, okay? If she continues with this attitude even after three days, then I will help you think of a solution. Now I have to go and over see that monkey gang case once again. I have to reopen some bodies which are waiting for a post-mortem once again."

Usually, the bodies would have been cremated once they were done with the post-mortem but not with this case. They had preserved all the fifty bodies. Due to the unusual nature of this case as well as lack of any evidence, they had to preserve all fifty victims and restudy them time and again to find any new information which could deduce the cause of their death and pattern of the injuries inflicted on them to estimate the number of assailants. Thus, Li Yang was busy as a bee during this period of time as Elliot was personally interested in this case.

But currently, a world known doctor who had many degrees under his wings which included a PHD in psychology from one of the world's best colleges, was forced to use his degrees on a relationship advice to one of his best friend. He felt….. accomplished!

"Yang" Elliot called his friend gently. "Will she still address me as Kai after three days " Elliot asked faintly.

Goosebumps formed all over Li Yang as he shuddered at the way his friend just called his name. "Elliot Harvey!" roared Li Yang. " I told you to wait for three days so be a man and wait for three days. Go finish your work during these days and let me finish mine. Working will stop your stupid brain from running wild" saying this, he disconnected the call frustratedly. Never in his life, had he imagined belittling Elliot this way and that too for matter of heart. But what could he do? He was busy too and Elliot was acting like spoiled child which was so unlike of him that he was having goosebumps now.
