Chapter 10: Guardian Meeting 2
[Mortal Realm, Guardian Hall]
"Ronae," after a moment of silence the old man in the blue kimono spoke up "I've known you the longest here, I can even say I understand you, I know you have always had the best interest of the Mortal Realm at heart, but this, I don't think it's a sane idea, I may support the mass recruitment of young talent but even if we can reverse the what the Ascended did and open a portal to the Ascended realm, sending the kids there is pure insanity"
He shook his head as he sighed "For 10,000 neither we nor our ancestors have tried to make contact with the Ascended Realm we have done our best to avoid any relation with it, we don't know what has happened in that period, we don't know anything but the records our people brought when they split which I don't think is reliable, you would be sending these kids to death. Yes, your plan to try to restore the essence of the Mortal realm is great, but it's too risky."
"So we should just wait for the knife hanging over our necks to fall? We should just sit by and watch as death comes for us? You all can feel it right?" Roane says in a deep voice as she stares at her fellow guardians "Our potential is nearly spent, we can hardly surpass this level and we all know that a place filled with essence like the Ascended realm will have people on par and even stronger than us and you want us to wait and stagnate while they grow stronger? And we are the 'Guardians'?" She chuckled sadly" What can we guard if we do not at least grow stronger?"
Again the hall fell quiet as they knew her words were true, they knew that the chances of them being able to defend the Mortal realm should the Ascended Realm come was almost non-existent, they knew they were just sitting ducks and honestly, they too hated it, but none of them even thought of the possibility of sending someone to the Ascended Realm, it never even crossed their minds.
"Does it have to be kids?" The lady with the five-tailed dog asked.
"Yes Lian, and you know why?" Ronae said "We could send anyone but they don't have the untapped potential that these kids have" pointing at Jake "If he grew here, trained here, he will become powerful no doubt but that will be according to earth standards, even then he won't even scratch the surface of his massive potential and it will all mostly go to waste, the same for every unplucked genius out there who could be an important asset in this upcoming war"
"They can't grow powerful enough from staying here, they need real adventures and dangers, yes we have the various pocket dimensions where they can encounter entrapped beasts and challenges but that is not enough and you know it" she sighed deeply "This is the only way"
"Ok, how do we go about this your crazy idea?" Omi the beautiful black woman asked. "The fact that you brought this up means you have a plan"
"Yes, and I have already started implementing it in the United Rose empire first" Roane replied, "The first stage is mass testing, using the government I will arrange and conduct affinity tests for as many children as possible, this will be done compulsorily and all schools will be given as many affinity stones as possible, from there we can find out the elemental affinity of the majority of children within the participation age of 15 to 17."
"You know that not all the kids will have talents to be whisperers, as is the norm," asked a thin man wearing a black cloak whose aura felt like that of a snake waiting for its prey.
"Yes, for the rest we will separate them sedate them and expose every one of them to minute amounts of berserk aura and watch how their body reacts and if there are changes, from there we can pick out potential berserkers, and if there are talented ones who begin forming berserk energy in them we make them a priority."
"We will also test them for high spirit affinity to pick out potential Summoners too"
"This is where your help will be needed, as each kid has a different category they will need to be taught differently, we intend to send them off to some of your families for training" she glanced at the guardians "My family is a Berserker family so we cannot properly guide Summoners or Whisperers, but Lian your family is a Summoner family so a potential Summoner will grow faster there than they will in my family"
"Interesting, you really thought this one through Ronae" Aalam the 'sandman' said "My family will fully participate, one issue plagues me though"
"What exactly are these kids going to look for that will help restore the Mortal Realms' essence? I mean anything I can remotely think of would be an extremely rare treasure and would be heavily guarded"
The other guardians nodded their heads in agreement as what he said was true, anything that could affect somewhere as large as the Mortal Realm would be extremely valuable, even to the Ascended, the thought of kids being able to get them was not exactly realistic.
"You are both correct and incorrect Aalam" Ronae glances at a woman in a green gown with a crown made of little vines and flowers "Glencora, you know of the Crann Bethadh forest right?"
The eyes of the woman immediately lit up as she heard those words, she turns to look at Ronae as surprise and realization fills her eyes "Technically it should work" she murmured to herself "If they can..."
Looking up she sees all the guardians looking at her waiting for an answer "The Crann Bethadh forest is an ancient forest that is said to contain the rare 'tree of life' a tree that can grow on any land and will fill wherever it is with essence" she says "But according to the texts it is a very dangerous forest and falls in the beast territory"
"Let's not worry about the details" Ronae continues "The seed of the Crann Bethadh if planted here can in some quantity change the world as we know it, bringing much needed essence to this Realm, and that is but one of the items that I can send them after which isn't locked in the treasure room of an ascended, they are either in the wild or in lost tombs, I'm not entirely sure they are still there but it is worth a try" turning to Aalam "I stumbled upon a text in the treasury of my family that speaks of a secret location where a 'tear of the desert' was found"
Aalams' eyes flashed as he looked at Roane in shock, ronae disregarded him and continued "I do not wish to send them all though, just the best of the best, this will greatly increase their chances of survival" Turning to a scholarly looking man who seemed out of place here with his glasses and his kind face "I will need your help, Konstantin, as the kids will need a fake Ascended brand which I'm sure you can do" turning to Lian, the lady with the five tailed dog "I will need the knowledge of your family in spatial runes to reverse the portal" pausing a little she took a deep breath "That is all"
For the rest of the meeting, the Guardians voted amongst themselves on whether they would go along with the plan or not as the now forgotten Jake watched in silence.
In the end, the vote was in her favour meaning that soon the whole world was going to undergo a huge change.
As Jake walked behind Granny Ronae who was now in the company of the old man in a kimono, he missed the feeling of the air in Guardian Hall and normal air now felt stale.
In front Ronae had a frown on her face as she spoke to the man in the kimono "Kiato, why I decided to talk to you after the meeting is because, after I studied the inscriptions on the tree, I understood that they could only be drawn from here, meaning that either they date back to before the separation, or someone from the Mortal Realm is helping the Ascended invade..."
