Chapter 3: Chapter 3

A graduation party into the woods behind the college, without authorization of college authority is the best place for a vampire to linger. That's where Merlin and Leonard found themselves, among a larger group of young adults, gulping down the drinks after drinks, not knowing what comes next. Sometime midway through all this, Leonard disappeared with one of the dark haired girls with booze dripping off her lips. She looked very eager to be charmed by a vampire. Merlin doubted if she even believed Leonard was a vampire when he told her or she was too drunk to process what he said.

It was Leonard's rule, never feed on a human without telling them you are a vampire, that was pretty much the rule for most of them.

There was a small bonfire at the farther side from the party. Merlin guessed it was probably for the college nerds as it was surrounded by a bunch of nerdy looking kids. There is no specific way to tell if someone is a nerd or not, the world is very confusing nowadays but they were giving off typically nerdy vibes. Merlin just observed them from a distance, there was this one boy who caught his attention more than anyone else. He was not as tall as him but tall enough to kiss him just by slightly going on his toes. He had dark hair and a beautiful smile that sparkled even more into the bonfire light. He was lean and wearing a black striped shirt on white pants and talking to a girl of his age. Merlin, unconsciously found himself walking towards  him. He knew he should not but he did anyway. Passing the small patch of ground separating the crowd dripping in alcohol and the bonfire nerds, Merlin came to halt right opposite to where the boy stood with his friend, across the fire.

He drank in whatever of the view he could take from over there. The boy abruptly turned his head to where Merlin stood and for a split second, he felt his undead heart do a little flip within his chest.

"Hey handsome!" An intruding voice startled a vampire like Merlin. He turned to a woman, possibly in her early twenties, grinning at him from under her thick eyelashes.

"Hey." Merlin said back. He could feel the gaze on that boy on the back of his head but his attention stayed with the woman at front.

"This is an unauthorized graduation night party. You should make use of it rather than just stare at the college nerds." Said the woman. Her round breasts were popping out of her tight leather top and fingers slipped into the belt of her skirt.

"Is it such a bad thing to do?" Asked Merlin.

"Not a bad thing but a strange thing. Boys who look like you don't stand among us."

"Us?" Merlin was shocked but he confined his shock to this one word and shifted closer to the woman. She smiled and said, "Yes. I am a nerd. Are you surprised?" She said hooking her middle finger into the waistband of Merlin's pants and pulled him closer. Merlin complied.

"No, I am not. You do look like a nerd. I could tell by that butterfly clip on your head."

"Well, what can I do? Some habits never change. Do you want to go and explore the college."

"Or we can explore the woods farther." Merlin suggested and tugged on her hand. He guided her away from the group and into the thicker side of the forest. After coming a distance of safe discretion from the party crowd.

Before they knew, they were hard core making out against the thick trunk of a tree.

"My name is Ella by the way." Ella said between the series of kisses.

"Yeah. Okay." Merlin said but didn't say his name back. He kept kissing the side of her neck, her bare shoulder, her lips and collarbone. His hands crawled all over her body, searching for comfort out of his own skin.

Ella was giving back with equal intensity, her body on edge of exploding. This was the vampire charm Merlin was proud of. He knew its benefits. With all this wet chaos, he didn't notice when an arrow landed right beside his head on the bark of the tree, startling them both.

"Who was that?" Ella asked, zipping up her skirt in hurry and Merlin tackled her to the ground beside the tree next to them. "I don't know. Stay down." Merlin said.

Then there were some murmurs and footsteps. A group of  five people came into sight, Merlin peeked at them through the side of the tree trunk. All of them had an arrow gun in their hand and a small bag with stakes poking out of it. Merlin knew what they were. The vampire hunters. But how did they know he was a vampire? How did they know they would find him here? Merlin tried to think of all the possible answers but none came to his mind. Most vampire hunters didn't dare to come to Ginger-Spring with the fear of being drained of blood before they stepped in. The vampires of Ginger-Spring were more vicious than any other town of the state.

"I saw him right here. Where did he go?" One of the voices said.

"Don't tell me you just shot the arrow blindly and it didn't even hit the bloody vampire kid." Another hunter said.

'I am not a kid.' Merlin thought to himself but stayed low holding Ella with one hand. She was utterly quiet as well.

"I am not joking here. I did see him. He was with a girl. A human girl."

"Check around." And the lot of them separated to look for the vampire kid, that Merlin assumed was none other than him. Merlin knew he would be caught if he kept hiding. He was outnumbered and had a human to take care of, the one he didn't want to kill or leave to die. So he did what needed to be done.

One by one, in the silence of the woods, he bite and drains every one of them. None of them get the chance to scream and warn the other hunters before Merlin sucks the blood out of their veins, one at a time, while Ella stays there, beside the tree, shocked and shaken.

With blood dripping off his mouth and fangs out, he returns to Ella, she back up on the ground. Merlin cleans his mouth with his shirt sleeve.

"Hey I am not going to hurt you. I—I had to do that, that would have killed me."

"Wh—Who are you?"

"I am a vampire. My name is Merlin but, you dont have to be worried. I will not hurt you."

"Oh my god. What is this? A freaky television show?" Ella was out of the shocked daze and now, she was just angry.

"I know what he looks like. Just relax. Okay?"

"You relax and also, stay away from me. Bloody animals." Ella said and ran away into the direction they came from. Now he needed to take care of the body. Taking off his coat, he buried the bodies, right where they lay lifeless.

After he was all done, his phone buzzed in his pocket. It was Paula's text, 'You have me. What do you say to a private investigation agency?'

And Merlin forgot all about the attack amidst ecstasy of Paula coming on board with the plan to do something other than typical vampiric stuff.
