Chapter 4: Not Normal
[Betty's POV]
Jason Andrews; or Jace for short, is a mystery.
He is someone who saved my brother's life by fighting against an Abomination.
The same Abomination; who was able to give Bruce's other-self, a run for his money.
Jason Andrews got hit by two attacks of 'that Abomination', and survived.
That was something that should not have been possible.
How can he survive against a punch so strong; that could have flattened an entire building?
How can a Human being-No; any living species, even survive that?
Don't get me wrong; I was glad that he survived, but the scientist inside me was screaming at me to know more about this person named Jason.
So I did.
I read his resume for his job interview.
The only thing I found strange in his resume was the 'I am completely broke' section dedicated solely to tell the interviewer how bad his financial condition was.
It was actually pretty bad.
Anyways,
There was nothing strange in it other than that; more like it was completely normal.
He was normal.
Then how....?
And why....?
Why did a normal human such as himself, decide to save a kid that he had never even seen in his entire life, by jumping into a situation which was sure to kill him!?
It doesn't make sense!
He was not a soldier, who were trained to give up their lives for other's....
He was just a normal man.
Or was he?
His medical reports were also normal.
They were just giving us a picture which was telling us that he was completely normal but in a pretty bad state.
The Doctors even said that he will never be able to wake up.
But he did.
He made a full recovery in just 3 months!
That....
Was again not normal.
My Father and a lot more people were trying to get in touch with Mr. Andrews, but something was stopping them.
Or rather; Someone.
I don't know who this someone was, but I guess they must be pretty big-shot if they were able to stop my Dad.
If they hadn't stop him, then I would have done that myself.
Even if my Dad were to try and get his hands on Mr. Andrews, I am not going to let him!
I am not going to let what happened to Bruce happen to anyone else ever again.
Mr. Andrews is someone who saved my brother's life....
And I am really thankful for that.
If he ever need my help, I will be there to assist him.
But still.....
A part of me was telling me that he will never need anyone's help.
And even if he did; he will be able to handle it on his own.
Weird.....
When I first saw Mr. Andrews opening his eyes after that event, which was about 2 and a half months ago, I was happy and surprised...
Happy because he woke up.
And surprised because he was not supposed to.
The Doctor told us that he was in such a bad condition; that having a full recovery was not possible.
Rather; it was impossible for him to even wake up after that event.
They wanted him gone from their hospital, but I insisted on letting him stay a while longer.
I know it's selfish, but what can I do?
That man was the reason why my brother was still alive.
I couldn't just give up.
Well, nobody actually listened to my pleas though.
So I did something which I still curse myself for, I asked for my Dad's assistance.
That man was really willing in helping me, not because he wanted to do this for me. No.
It was just because he wanted to use Mr. Andrews when he wakes up...
Strangely, it was not him who helped.
Rather; It was a man in a black suit.
I don't know who he was or what he did, but he just said a few words to someone on his phone and we got permission to let Mr. Andrews stay inside the hospital for a month longer.
He didn't even try to see Mr. Andrews after.
He just came and left.....
My Dad was really furious after those turn of events though.
And that made me smile.
After that incident, something which shook the entire hospital happened.
Mr. Andrews woke up.
That made the Doctor who was checking up on him feel proud of himself; thinking himself to be the reason why he woke up.
He even started considering himself to be a miracle Doctor.
But that was not true.
Once again...
Jason Andrews proved that he was not normal.
I continued to give him visits whenever I had free time with my brother to see if he regained consciousness or not.
And one day, I found him gaining consciousness.
It was a bizarre situation that I found myself in....
I was looking around for any family members he may have; but I found none.
Why was I doing it you ask?
Well, it was just because nobody ever came to visit him(except me and my brother).
And that was the reason why I was feeling rather fidgety under his gaze at that moment.
I was invading his private life without his permission, you know?
What if he got angry because of that?
And got angry, he did.
He got angry because I tried to look into his job resume, so I decided to change the subject by telling him how big of a miracle it was for him to wake up in such a short amount of time.
But then Daniel opened his mouth to say-
"Yup! It only took you 3 months to fully recover, even though the Doctor said that you will never wake up!!"
After hearing those words coming out of Daniel's mouth, all the colour drained from his face.
If you are thinking that it was because of the detail about him never waking up; then you couldn't be more wrong.
It was not because of that detail; rather he didn't even seem affected by it.
The reason behind his gloominess was the medical fee that he will have to pay for 'staying' in this medical facility.
I couldn't help but smile at this.
Before he went into another stage of denial, I decided to tell him that me and my Father will be paying for his treatment.
Even though I said Father, I was sure that it came out as a curse from my mouth but he didn't seem to notice.
Or even if he did, he didn't show it.
I was thankful to him for saving my brother's life so I decided to thank him properly this time.
He dismissed my thanks by saying that he was just doing his job which made me confused.
Upon giving him the look saying 'explain please', he didn't do it properly and just looked at Daniel with a smirk on his face and said in a confident tone
"Afterall, I am a Hero."
Those were the words that came out of his mouth....
For anyone else, it would seem like he was just humouring my little brother's fantasy a little bit.
But I knew...or more like felt it.
That he was dead serious about what he said.
Anyone else would have thought of this to be stupid and downright childish...
But I was not just anyone.
I was someone who actually saw this man on action....
The way he held my brother in his arms and the way he looked at that Abomination without an ounce of fear in his eyes.
He was determined to see that fight to the end!
He was determined to save my brother no matter what.
At that time....
He was just like a hero-No.
He was a Hero.
And that's why I was sure after hearing him say that.....
That this man will definitely become a hero.
Why was I so sure? I didn't know.
But one thing was for certain after my meeting with him.
That Jason Andrews was no ordinary man.
