Chapter 28: Loki Laufeyson

"I'd advise you to not make it harder than it already is. For both of our sake. Tell me your name."

Coulson asked, his expression impassive. This mysterious man was not talking. It was getting really frustrating for Coulson. It seemed to him as if nobody wanted to talk.

It had been a day since Coulson got to know of his partner's inhumane strength. He was still unable to come to terms with it. When he asked Maria about it, he didn't get any explanation.

He was just told to silently observe, like he always does.

"Are you not going to answer? Alright then."

Coulson smiled, before taking out a phone from his coat pocket. The mysterious man, who was currently a prisoner, looked at him, his expression betraying nothing.

"You must have not noticed, but I have seen you before. Remember the man who put you down? He was working undercover at the place where you had lunch yesterday. I was also there."

Coulson swiped a few times on his phone, before displaying a picture of the prisoner chatting with Jane Foster and her friends. That got the reaction Coulson wanted, and the man glared at his direction.

"Don't look at me like that. I'm not insinuating anything. I just want to know what your relationship is with them, and why you tried to infiltrate our camp. But that can come later."

Coulson put the phone back in his pocket. The prisoner was now attentively listening to everything Coulson was saying, his eyes never leaving his figure.

"Tell me your name."

Just as the man was about to speak, an agent entered the room. Coulson looked at him with a questioning gaze, wondering why he was being interrupted during the interrogation. The agent quietly approached Coulson and whispered something in his ear. After he was done, he left the room.

"Quite skilled for a researcher, aren't you?"

Coulson looked at the man, before approaching him and taking off his handcuffs. The man stood up from his chair slowly and rubbed his hands, his expression confused.

"Someone is here. He says he knows you. You should have told us who you were from the beginning professor."

Coulson smiled, but the man frowned. He looked at Coulson suspiciously, but didn't say anything.

They both left the room together, a few agents following behind them. Leaving the camp, they came face to face with Erik Selvig, who approached them with an apologetic look on his face.

"Oh thank God you are safe Jackson! You had Jane worried. I told you not to drink so much!"

Erik quickly engulfed the man, now named Jackson, in a tight hug. The man groaned, looking quite disturbed by the show of affection.

Coulson giggled.

"Your apprentice sure knows how to throw a punch. He took down quite a lot of our men."

Erik turned his gaze at Coulson, a nervous expression on his face.

"Well, what can I say? He is at that age. Young and reckless. I will make sure to educate him properly."

"I see."

Coulson smiled. Erik awkwardly laughed, before giving an apologetic smile.

"I'm really sorry for what these youngsters did. Jane is also sorry for infiltrating your camp. She just wanted her research back. Jackson wanted to help her, to impress her, that's why he did what he did."

"Yes. I heard."

Coulson nodded, an understanding look on his face. Erik sighed, feeling relieved.

"Did he break something?"

The image of the destroyed portion of the facility came to Coulson's mind. He felt as if he was experiencing that night all over again. He could still feel those shock waves, still see that punch whose shockwave was enough to tear apart everything in its path.

Coulson internally shuddered.

"He didn't. Somebody else did."

An agent muttered, before Coulson silenced him with a glare. He didn't want anyone to know about that, not until he got to understand what it was himself.

Erik looked at them confused.

"...What?"

"Nothing. Other than a few bones of our agents, he didn't break anything expensive."

Every agent present glared at Coulson. Showing a level of skill only a man such as himself could show, Coulson ignored all their glares and smiled.

"We need to get back to our work. I'd greatly appreciate it if you people take your leave."

"Yeah, sorry for taking your time, and beating up your people."

Erik muttered, wincing as he said the last part. Coulson smiled, and waved at them as they left.

The agent, who recently got silenced by Coulson, looked at him with a questioning gaze.

"Why did you let him leave?"

The man, very much young, asked Coulson. Coulson didn't look at him, his eyes fixated on the back of 'Jackson'.

"Mr. Selvig wanted his assistant back. He even apologized on his behalf."

Coulson answered, a small smile on his face. The young agent looked at Coulson incredulously, not believing he was hearing right.

"Wasn't he lying?"

Coulson giggled, turning his attention back on the young agent. His smile turned stiff, and his expression became impassive.

"He was lying."

"Then why...?"

Coulson looked at the agent in his eyes. He could tell that he was a newbie by the way he was acting. The agent shifted nervously under Coulson's gaze, not able to maintain eye contact.

"In our line of work, it's better to not ask questions."

—With that, Coulson left the newbie alone to ponder on his words.

Coulson finally understood why Fury hated answering people's questions.

It was annoying.

[ Asgard ]

There had always been some prejudice against Loki. No matter what or where, Loki always felt as if Thor was getting special treatment.

Thor was the eldest, so at first, Loki thought that people treated them differently because of that. Thor was a brute, but he acted kind towards those who were lower than him on status. That made people have a better opinion of their eldest prince.

Loki, on the other hand, didn't interact with anyone. He kept to himself, which made people think he was arrogant.

It had always been like that. No matter where he went, people were always trying to gain Thor's favour. Loki was always Thor's brother, a shadow or a medium, which could be used to get close to the crown prince.

Loki hated being treated that way. Still, he contained his anger and took solace in the fact that their father would never treat him unfairly.

He knew, that once the time came, his father would make the fair decision by choosing him as the King of Asgard. After all, Thor was a brute, who would be better off as a soldier than a king. He, on the other hand, was smarter, unpredictable, and overall a better candidate to be the king.

Loki truly believed, that his father would be just.

Unfortunately, his belief was crushed. His father was like everyone else. He also chose Thor over him.

He didn't want to see his father in that light, he truly believed that there must be a reason why he wasn't chosen. All-Father was wise. He would never do something without a reason.

Not even in a million years would he have guessed what the actual reason was.

He wasn't an Odinson. He wasn't an Asgardian. Odin wasn't his father, Lady Frigga wasn't his mother, and Thor wasn't his brother.

That much was enough to make Loki's world shatter, but when he got to know of his true origin, it left him broken.

He was a Frost Giant. Son of Laufey. He was Loki Laufeyson.

He was a monster.

Holding the casket of ancient winters in his hands, Loki's appearance shifted to that of his true self. His green eyes turned blood red, and his skin started turning blue. His nails enlarged to a point they couldn't be called nails anymore, and a very disturbing creature was left standing in the place of the second prince of Asgard.

Loki Laufeyson looked at his true self in front of the mirror, and slight tears could be seen in his eyes.

Betrayed, he felt betrayed. His entire life was a lie. He wasn't a God. He was a Frost Giant.

".. a filthy monster."

Loki muttered, before punching the mirror with all his strength, turning it into a million pieces. He took deep breaths, before finally getting some control over his emotions. The casket disappeared from his hands, and his appearance returned to normal.

Loki smirked. His tears were no longer there. After all, he was going to win. Everything was moving according to his plans.

Thor was in Midgard, and apparently at some Mortal's mercy. That damn Hammer of his was something he can no longer lift, that much was something Loki was sure about.

Not to mention, he must be blaming himself for his father's death. He knew that it must have completely shattered Thor, to know that his father was no longer among the living.

He made sure to feed him with lies. And Thor had no reason to doubt his words.

Soon, Thor would be completely crushed by the weight of this guilt. He knew that his brother was not someone to kill himself, that's why, Loki would take that burden off his hands.

He would kill Thor, by his own hands.

'I still don't understand why the clouds looked like that, or why there was so much debris near that damn Hammer. Did lightning strike the ground?'

Loki thought, but his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps. Looking up, a soldier was standing in front of him. The soldier quickly kneeled, a hand on his chest.

Loki smirked.

"Speak."

"Lady Sif and the warrior Three are demanding your presence, my King."

Loki hid a grimace at that. He forgot about them, he was sure those ruffians are going to be a bother. He quickly dismissed the soldier, and his horned helmet appeared on his head.

"Time to meet my people and answer to their pleas, just like a King."

There wasn't much development in this chapter, not to mention, Jason wasn't in the chapter.

I needed to write this one, as I wanted to make you people understand where we were in the canon. The next chapter, Lady Sif and The Warriors Three arrive on Earth.

—And with them, the Destroyer.

There's something else I need to share. I am going to post a very short chapter after this. It's something related to Izzy. She is going to be an important character in the story, that's why, make sure to read it.

Bye.
