Chapter 2: Potential Interest?

Today was the day college started. I moved colleges because the one I went to wasn't working out for me. It's mid-August, and it's still hot outside. I wore black jean shorts and a blue off-the-shoulder top. It was my favorite because the sleeves are ruffles. I fixed my hair into a high ponytail with loose strands in front of my face, and I was ready for my first day. Hopefully, I can get some breakfast on the way out. I walked out to my car and started my drive to a drive-thru, Dunking Rolls.

To start my day, I ordered chai tea and a coffee roll. I drove my way into the college, and once I stepped out of the car, I was star-struck by the sight of the campus. Most buildings were modern-styled, and others looked like office buildings. I saw a water fountain in the middle of the entryway; flower bushes surrounded the fountain and tall hedges alongside the path. I then saw palm trees scattered around campus.

It's happening, and it's happening right now. I made it to college. I took deep breaths and used my aeropods to play music to calm my nervous nerves. I followed signs and the path that led me to the office. The office was plain compared to the breathtaking exterior. I might've looked lost in there cause I felt a tap on my shoulder. As I paused my music, I glanced at the person. He was a tall male. Slender but fit. A dread head with hair that came down to his shoulder. He was dark skin with a smile that came from cheek to cheek.

"I haven't seen your pretty face around here." His smile is cheeky. Just like his jokes and his vibe. "Oh, I am new here." My voice cracked a bit from my anxiety kicking in. He nodded his head and walked off. Gosh, I wished I could've said more cause now I'm clueless. The more I looked around the office, the higher my anxiety. So, as soon I was about to play my music again until the dread head came back to me. "Your name?" My name? "What about it?" His chuckle made me feel even more confused. "I need to sign you off to keep track of newcomers."

After a few minutes of signing off my name and guiding me to my building, I situated myself inside the literature department. My guide was friendly and good-looking too. He could be more of potential interest but not so much of a crush. I wonder what cute guys are here too. Not that love is necessary to me. I just like the thought of having a companion. The literature teacher enters the classroom. Colorful and yet so tacky. My favorite part of his style was his northern lights hairstyle. You don't see that often here in Cali.

Hours passed through the classroom, and we played a bunch of icebreaker games which was pretty cool. I did make a new friend. Her name is Sue, and we started talking to each other due to the interest of our crazy-haired teacher. We laughed a lot in class. She was a curly-haired Latina who wore clothing that was most comfortable for her. Her hair wasn't long, but she wore it in a high ponytail that tickled her neck. What made me happy was I wasn't alone wearing glasses. Her beauty to me was stunning, and she had one of a kind laugh and smile. I'm glad that she and I became friends.

The best part about this college is that there aren't any familiar faces. I enjoyed that the most. I suffered throughout my years of elementary to high school, so I am pretty happy that I don't see the people I went to school with at this college. But my stomach growled loudly, disturbing my train of thought. I guess it's time to find some food. "But where is the cafeteria?" I thought aloud, and someone had heard me. "Are you hungry?" I squeaked and jumped at the sudden voice. To my sudden surprise, it was the same person who had guided me to my building. "Sorry for startling you. I forgot to give you your ID."

This familiar face handed me my ID, and I thanked him for it. "How about I show you the cafeteria and treat you to lunch?" That doesn't sound so bad. Besides, I still don't know how this school operates. "That sounds nice." I flashed him a smile, and he looked surprised. At least, I think so; he turned his head too quickly. "Let's not waste any more time. Let's get that stomach of yours food." I agreed with him, and we both walked and talked on our way there. "I realized you don't have a name to address me. My name is Shar." That's a simple name to remember. "Daphne. Daphne Amoy." His gaze seemed a bit more at ease when he heard my name.

"Although I did see it on your ID, hearing you say your name sounded ten times beautiful." My eyes grew big, and my face felt warm. I looked away, covering my face in embarrassment, and was a tad bit flustered. We made it to the cafeteria, and he told me to take a seat as he would surprise me with food. I did what he asked me to, and I scanned the area. The area wasn't extraordinarily huge like the ones in high school or small. I noticed a person sitting alone who seemed to be studying multiple subjects. His hair was light, and it was an unusually long amount of curls. He looks like he doesn't want to be bothered. Maybe when he isn't drowning himself in studying, I will talk to him.

"Sorry for taking so long. The line was crazy, causing crowdedness in lunch area." I snapped out of my trance and smiled at Shar. "Thank you for the food. Highly appreciate it." He nodded his head at my gratitude, and from then, we started talking about the school and how it operates. Throughout the conversation, I couldn't help but take a side glance at the mysterious boy. He's glued to studying, and it was charming to me. I must stay focused on the current conversation and devouring this food.
