Chapter 60: meet the ex marines

Chapter 59 (Vicky's POV)

We had it all figured out.

Knox even called a few of his friends he met back when he was a marine.

I have no idea what the story was.

I just knew he was a marine and on some mission it all went to hell.

When I tried to get some information from Knox he just got a faraway look in his eyes, so I thought to myself, better to leave some stones unturned.

So here we were.

Hiding in the forest behind Andrew's house, waiting for Knox's friends to arrive  so we could put our plan in motion.

"How exactly will they be able to find us though Knox? We are hidden from the world in this godforsaken forest. It's so thick I barely see you and Jessy and you are standing right next to me."

Knox just chuckled, I bet he would laugh at me out loud if we weren't hiding.

"Try to remember we are not amateurs ok hun? We survived many missions and located many dangerous enemies, so for those two to locate us should be a piece of cake."

I get it. They were all ex marines. But still. I doubted his words more and more with each second that passed.

"Right. Well then Mr. Marine please tell me why are your friends taking so long? Did they decide my future husband is not that important and took a break or something?"

Suddenly something touched my shoulder and if a hand didn't cover my mouth in that second I would scream as loud as I could.

"A little impatient thing I see. No wonder Andrew likes you so much. And to answer your question. We did not take a break. We were here 2 hours ago and were just trying to get a hold of the situation."

The hand on my mouth eased away and I turned around, but as I did that I was actually seeing…uhm…nothing.

Just some broad chest.

I had to lift my head quite a bit to finally get to a stranger's face.

I was expecting to find a face full of menace, evil, i don't know something like that you know?

But there was a kind friendly smiling face in front of me.

And you want to tell me those are some bad ass ex marines?

Then I remembered Knox was one of them and it was much more believable to me.

After all Knox was the kindest person I knew and he was an ex marine.

The stranger in front of me extended his hand towards me and I took it. Slowly but surely.

"Nice to finally meet you Vicky. We've heard a lot about you already. All good I promise. I am Fox and the one that looks tense all the time, standing behind me is Monster."

I looked around Fox and finally realized there indeed stood another person.

He just lifted his hand in acknowledgment but other than that he continued surveying our surroundings.

The thing that stood out about him though was his scar. It stretched from his ear and all thr way to his lips.

But to me it didn't look ugly in any way. In a way it suited him.

They were both big and muscular but that's where their similarity ended.

Where Fox was blond with blue eyes and a boyish charm, Monster had black hair and green eyes and I think he rarely smiled, if ever.

"Uhm…hi? I wish I could say the same, but I've heard really little about you guys."

Fox looked at Knox with feigned hurt on his face.

"Now brother that hurts you know. I thought we were family. And here you get a new sister but she knows next to nothing about us."

At that moment Monster hit him on the head and threw him an annoyed expression.

"If you ladies are done with bullshit I'd like to save Andrew now. Then you can chat for as long as you'd like."

Both Knox and Fox saluted him in a mocking way and I could finally see how those three were connected.

"Sir, yes sir!"

They both said in unison.

And I could actually see Monsters lips twitching at their shenanigans.

"Idiots. Like always."

They chuckled for a moment but then they got serious.

"Ok. So we checked every inch around the house and took a peek inside as well. The woman is not inside. At the moment it's just Andrew and that psycho. He is keeping him in a room on the first floor, but all the windows have an alarm system attached so getting inside through the window is a no go. That sair, we can still use your idea about going in through the basement, but we would need to go through the whole house before we get to Andrew. And in that case we have a really small chance to save him without being noticed. So we came up with another idea. We need someone on the inside that would disable the alarm so we can ambush that psycho."

Knox nodded his head and looked deep in thought for a second, then shock overtook his facial expressions.

"No. No! Are you kidding me? No way! Andrew would kill me if I sent her inside!"

I had no idea what was going on. And I just watched them arguing for a minute before I spoke up.

"What are you two idiots arguing about?"

A cough was heard on my left and when I looked there stood Monster fighting a smile.

Guess he did smile.

"That idiot wants to send you inside, so you could let us in. But there is no guarantee he would even let her near Andrew! You have no idea what kind of psycho we are dealing with here. Those bastards we fought in the marines are less crazy than that one inside the house!"

They continued arguing but I turned them out.

Sure. Nik was a total psycho.

But I was sure he wouldn't hurt me right away.

That was not his style.

He always tried playing nice first but once that didn't get him results he went for psycho acts.

So the only way to win this fight was if I played his game until we got what we came for.

"I'll do it."

All 4 pairs of eyes turned my way suddenly.

But first to speak was Monster.

"No wonder he likes you. You are just as crazy as he is."

After a second Knox also got back to his senses.

"No way Vicky. I won't let you."

I motioned him to shut up and gave him a stern look.

"Really? You won't let me? I think you have no say in this matter. It's my life on the line. And I am sick of being a victim. It's time I stand up for myself. So I am going in. I will play by his rules as long as it takes for him to take me to Andrew or he lets him go. One way or another I trust you guys to get us out in one piece. Deal?"

They all nodded their heads even though I could see Knox did it reluctantly.

"Let's do this!"
