Chapter 7: You think you're stronger than me?
I won't force anyone to come with me, but if you want to get stronger, if you want to be ahead of the other people in this world, your only option is to take your chances!
After saying this, Leon simply folded his arms as he looked at the crowd of people in front of him.
He could clearly see the hesitation and worry on their faces.
Fear.
Seeing this, Leon just shook his head.
He couldn't force anyone to come and neither was he begging.
if no one came, then that was simply fate.
He wouldn't try and force it.
But just as Leon turned around to leave, suddenly someone raised his hand into the air
"Excuse me sir, but the only question I have is will this journey truly make us stronger?"
Faced with the middle-aged man's question, Leon smiled.
Finally, someone was interested.
"As long as you pull in effort and don't drag down the team, you'll be guaranteed to get stronger than you are now." Replied Leon.
Hearing this, a smile grew on the man's face
"That's all I needed to hear," laughed the man
"I hope you won't mind me joining. The name's Martin"
"Hahaha!" Laughed Leon as he stretched out his hand.
"Nice to meet you Martin. It's my pleasure to have you join."
As if the start of a chain reaction as soon as the first man joined, more and more people started to join Leon's team.
But even with this, it didn't mean that everybody was on board.
"Fools! These crazy people are just heading to their deaths"
"These people must think it's still a game! You can't just play with your life like that!"
For every person that decided to join Leon, there were at least 5 others that decided against it.
But Leon didn't care. What he needed were distractions, not an army. The group of people in front of him were enough.
After waiting for a few minutes to make sure anyone who wanted to join had come, Leon took a second to look at the people in front of him
Leon had managed to gather a group of 10 people
3 women and 5 men and 2 children.
All three women looked as if they couldn't be any older than university students. The age range for the men, on the other hand, was much wider.
Amongst the group of men, Leon could spot what could be considered university students whilst there also was an older man that seemed to be in his late forties.
And the two children, well, that was obviously the brother and sister pair from earlier.
Leon just had a cold look on his face as he spoke to the rest of the people.
"As I said before, I'm not going out to play. In this expedition, you're going to be risking your life and may even lose it."
Although there were some reactions to Leon's words, nobody decided to back out.
"Good." Said Leon as he nodded
"This brings me to the next point. I won't ask for much when we leave this temple. The only thing I ask is that you follow my instructions. In combat, there will be no time for hesitation and I also won't tolerate it. That's why out there what I say is final."
This time, Leon's words were met with some audible grumbles.
No matter the situation, no matter the world, nobody liked being told what to do.
Besides, in modern society, everyone was viewed as equal and it was true. Everyone was indeed equal.
Before the fall, it would be complete nonsense for anyone to ever think they could demand complete control of anyone without hesitation.
But now things had changed.
In this world, such words like equality were simply a myth.
Nobody would question your beliefs or views here as long as you had the strength to protect them.
Strength was simply the only deciding factor in this world and the sooner everyone else realised it, the better.
Suddenly, as Leon was watching the rest of the people talk and discuss amongst themselves, he saw a man amongst them suddenly raise his hand as he spoke.
"So what you're saying is that your word is the only one that counts, right?"
Looking towards the man, Leon could see a tall man with well-developed muscles. Just by looking at him, it was clear to see that this was a man that took care of himself and went to the gym.
"Don't you think this is too much? We should also have a say in what-"
Before the man could continue, Leon's cold voice cut him off.
"You're speaking nonsense."
"Didn't you hear what I just said? We're going to be fighting with our lives on the line. If we stop to discuss and decide, do you think the monsters will just sit and wait?"
Faced with Leon's question, an awkward expression appeared on the man's face.
"Now you realise how stupid you sound. We don't have time to discuss that's why we will set the rules now to avoid any disagreements in the future
As the strongest person here, I think it's only right I set the rules."
As Leon was speaking, he could still notice some unpleasant expressions on the man and a few others
In response to this , Leon turned to look at them as he spoke with a soft smile
"Don't tell me you think you're stronger than me? If you truly believe so, I won't mind handing leadership over to you."
Although the words Leon spoke were rather kind and accommodating, the chilling tone of his voice said otherwise.
The man was just left stunned and stared into Leon's emotionless brown eyes.
It was at that moment the scene of Leon mercilessly slaughtering goblins with a slight smile on his face popped into the man's head.
The man was brash, but he wasn't stupid.
He wouldn't risk his life to try and grab control from such a crazy murderer!
