Chapter 34: Battle for the Waterfall

The journey to the waterfall was uneventful after that point; the only monster that we stumbled on was a lone Lizardman, who got impaled by my spear and stabbed by Ais' rapier.

It took us around fifteen minutes to reach the crystal clear lake, the waterfall pouring down from a cliff far above our heads.

The tumbling sound of the cascading water masked our approach, and we stopped a few dozen feet away from the wandering Lizardmen tribes and grazing Battle Boars.

Gareth made his way to the front, observing the three some odd dozen monsters that wandered around the sandy shore.

"Hmm... Ais, Nikoletta, Ria, Kallasa; you four will be the spearhead of this attack. Lefiya, guide the other mages into bombarding the monsters those four can't reach. Narvi, you and I will keep the rest of the Expedition safe."

I nodded, glancing at the tall, burly Boaz and curvy Amazonian, the two women hefting their weapons with practiced ease.

Ria, the Boaz, held a giant hammer in her large hands, a smirk on her lips as she looked out over the various monsters.

As for Kallasa, she held a scimitar and a dagger in her hands, bouncing from side to side as she loosened her muscles, preparing for the fight ahead.

Ais and I stood by silently, waiting for the Dwarf to give the signal.

Lefiya stood behind us, and I could feel her glare on my back as Ais and I nodded to one another, preparing to launch ourselves into the horde.

"Ready girls?"

Gareth gave us a half smile, and we all lowered ourselves, nodding.

"Go!"

Dashing forwards, I out paced Ria and matched Kallasa, while Ais zoomed forwards, her golden hair flailing wildly behind her as she landed in the center of a small group of Lizardmen.

Kallasa and I exchanged a glance and ran towards four Battle Boars, deciding to work together.

As for Ria, she was laughing as she slammed into a Battle Boar on her own, the Boaz making the large monster collapse onto its side.

Raising my spear, I lanced the long lethal tip into the monsters eye socket, piercing its brain and killing it instantly.

Beside me, Kallasa slid underneath her Battle Boar and gutted the thing, her scimitar splitting it completely open.

When she came out the other side, she leapt above a charging Battle Boar's tusks, landing carefully on its back and hacking down at its thick, tough hide.

Returning my attention to my remaining Battle Boar, I stabbed my spear forwards, clicking my tongue as the monster avoided the lethal blow.

However, I impaled its front knee, making it squeal.

Wrenching the blade from its crippled leg, I swung the spear down and scored a large gouge on the side of its throat, slicing its jugular open.

When it died, I watched as a fireball traveled over my head, slamming into the center of an oncoming squad of Lizardmen.

Kallasa and I regrouped, and we waded into the now decimated group of Lizardmen, our blades rising and falling as we reaped their lives like wheat.

The consecutive puffs of dust around us, joined with the clattering of crystals dropping to the ground, was barely heard as we continued forwards, towards another group of Battle Boar.

Ria shouted out behind us, and we felt a tremor in the ground, followed by the sound of bone shattering.

Glancing back, I saw the Boaz standing over the mangled corpse of a Battle Boar, which promptly turned to dust.

Her hammer was resting on the ground beside her, and she lifted it back up and charged towards the next threat.

Returning my focus to the group ahead, I watched as a barrage of arrows, both normal and magical, rained down on the Battle Boars, making them squeal.

Reaching them, I used my momentum to impale ones throat before pivoting, swinging my spear in a wide arc and severing the leg tendons on another, making it fall to the ground.

Stomping my armored foot on its skull, I observed Kallasa jump above one Battle Boars powerful headbutt, and while she was in the air she flicked her wrist, sending her dagger spinning through the air.

The small blade sunk to the hilt in the monsters eye, the high pitched shriek being silenced a moment later as Kallasa landed on its head, her scimitar severing its spinal cord.

Twirling my spear, I blocked a rock that hurtled towards my head, before I stepped forwards and threw my spear towards the Lizardman in question.

As soon as the weapon left my hand I dashed forwards, swiftly collecting it as it tore through the monsters skull.

Having reached the edge of the shore, I turned around to find that everything was dead, Ais and Ria standing beside one another.

Flicking off the remaining blood from her blade, Ais started looking around before motioning for the rest of the Expedition to approach.

Mirroring her, I cleaned my spear before resting it on my shoulder, walking towards the curvy Amazon.

Kallasa was wiping the blood of her daggers handle when she heard me approach, and she glanced up at me.

"That was pretty impressive."

A smirk rose on her lips, and she said "Well, I AM an Amazon; we all know how to fight. I just prefer forging new weapons to use..."

Nodding, I helped her to her feet before watching as the Dian-Cecht Familia started exploring the shoreline, a member of the Loki Familia with them at all times.

"What exactly are we hoping to get from this expedition?"

Kallasa pursed her lips before saying "Potion ingredients mainly, but considering many metal ores pop up on these Floors, especially around the Great Fall of Floor 25. Hopefully we can get some Azure Steel or Aquatic Bronze..."

Nodding, I asked "So... those worth a lot, or..?"

Rolling her eyes at me, the Amazon Smith snorted as she said "Yeah, they are. Hence why Tubal-Cain is here..."

Leaning down, I raised a brow as I said "No need to get snarky now, girl."

She smirked at me, responding in a cheery tone.

"Of course Mistress~!"
