Chapter 34: PROXIMITY
Leonardo saw that tab of the water gallon was leaking. He wore off his coat and took a tools kit and started fixing that. The water gallon was empty. So when he tried to open the screw the gallon turned down. He called Ava to help him. She instantly came and held the gallon tightly. Ava's hair touched his face. For a moment he started smelling his hair. As Ava looked at him he changed direction. He stated losing the screw. After lunch, they played with Lucas. He wanted to play the puzzle-solving game with his aunt and uncle together. Leonardo smiled and started setting up puzzle cards. Ava also participated in the game. Ava was not known herself when she grabbed the entire room table. She got close to Leonardo. Both were involved keenly in puzzle solving. Lucas looked at them as they were so close to each other.
I wish you both were my father and mother. But first, you both have to get married. Right? Lucas smiled and said his words. Both looked at each other and then at Lucas.
Beetroot, who gave you this idea? Leonardo asked on a serious note.
Shouldn't you have to get married to become a father and mother? Lucas asked innocently.
Both looked at each other again.
Yes, it is right. Being a mother and father one should get married. Leonardo said
So will you two get married? Lucas again asked
Sweetheart. It is right to get married but there are conditions. Ava said
What conditions? Lucas asked
For example… they should love each other. Ava said
Don't you both love each other? Lucas asked
When someone gets married. He finds a special person. Someone who can fill up your missing. Like this puzzle. Two make these pieces together, these two have to fit perfectly. Look how these two pieces fit in. she took puzzle pieces. She gave one piece to Leonardo's hand and took on in her hand. They both fit it well. But that moment Ava got shied but she replied to manage her shyness in front of Leonardo who was continuously looking at her with a smiling face. After that, Lucas and Leonardo went out to buy new games. Meanwhile, Emma came there without informing them. Leonardo saw she was ringing the doorbell.
What you are doing here? Leonardo asked
I came to get your signature on this file. Emma said
This can be done in the office. You don't need to come here again. Leonardo said. Meanwhile, Ava opened the door. She wondered how Emma knew the location.
Oh, I came to take coffee with Ava as well. So if you were heading somewhere you can go. Emma said and went into the house.
Leonardo nodded his head to Ava to stay relaxed. Ava closed the door and went into the kitchen.
So tell me. Finally, you are alone. You must be missing the luxury life of a mansion. it should be difficult for you. Emma said
What are you saying? Ava asked
I can see you. You thought you could get everything easily. Stop acting like a pure girl. You can't fool me with your tricks as you did with Leonardo. Look there is no one looking at us. Ava jerked for a moment.
"Why I am bothering her words those are not for me. Whenever I am not wrong or doing anything wrong then I shouldn't think that. Why I am getting headaches? Don't be silly. Don't get down." Ava mumbled.
Lucas and Leonardo came back. Leonardo noticed that Ava was not feeling well. As porridge was felling out of the pan due to excessive flame.
Are you okay? What happened? Leonardo looked at her and asked
Nothing. I am good. She got attentive to the oven site. Porridge was burned. Leonardo followed her actions to understand the reason behind her behaviour.
The sky got dark. Leonardo was checking files. He saw Ava went into the kitchen. She was passing by the lounge when Leonardo stopped her.
Are you going to sleep? Leonardo asked
Not now. Is there any job to do? Ava asked
Nothing, come sit here. Leonardo said
No, please. Don't bother me. Don't get interrupted in your work. Ava said
Okay. Not bother. You can sit here. Leonardo said
Leonard kept working
Is there something that bothers you? Ava interrupted
I am not angry but Lucas's words touched me. He said if you two were my father and mother. Does something sadden him? Is he unhappy? Leonardo asked
No, he isn't. He is missing his father and mother. That's why. Ava said
Sure. I can't take his father's place. Leonardo said
No. you are a perfect guy. Lucas is very lucky to have you. Ava said and got shied
You are also a very good aunt. Leonardo said and smiled.
Ava looked around and smiled.
"Would you like to have a coffee" both asked each other same time? Both smiled.
Okay. I will make it. Ava said. Ava went into the kitchen. She switched on the kettle. The electricity was cut off due to wire shorts.
I am here. Don't worry. I will check the fuse meter. Can you please bring champs and a voltage tester from the kitchen? Leonardo asked.
Okay. I am bringing. Ava said
She gave tools to him.
Can you please hand over this light over here? So I can fix it. Leonardo asked Ava
Okay. She took from his hand. Leonardo felt Ava's chin touching his pectoral as she was keenly observing the fixation of the fuse.
I was scared of the dark when I was a child. Isn't funny? Ava asked
Leonardo fixed the wires and fuse and turned on the light and look at Ava's face.
You are afraid of what you don't know. Someone knows the dark as if it is his name. One got used to living in darkness as cold as ice. Leonardo said in his inner voice.
Maybe they got scared by the light. They don't know that there is another life beyond the darkness. Ava replied
Is it possible? Do you think? Another life? Leonardo asked
They both got closer to each other by a few centimetres distances. There was a hubbub in their minds. As they got each other to kiss Lucas came in front of them
Aunt, I can't sleep. I am also thirsty. He said
Both looked at each other and then looked at little Lucas. Ava quickly went into the kitchen. She drank a glass of water. She was not known what happened to her so she got closer to Leonardo in a limitless way.
Come beetroot. I will be with you. Aunt will bring your water. Leonardo said and went with Lucas to his room. There were two bedrooms and one lounge so Ava prepared Leonardo's bedding in the lounge on a couch as one bedroom was for Ava and one for Lucas. Leonardo observed with a huge smile. Ava said good night to him and went into her room. She sat on her bed and broke down. Leonardo quickly went into her room.
I told you in the day that the leg of the bed is broken and swinging. Ava said
Are you okay?
I am okay. But it's okay for now. I will sleep on the other couch in the lounge. Ava replied and took the blanket and pillow and went out.
Ava laid on the bed. Leonardo switched off the lights. Ava was unable to sleep. Leonardo was also unable to sleep. He was staring roof reminding me of the scene that happened between them. Both took the crotch same time. They were facing each other. Ava slept while looking at him continuously. Leonardo was looking at sleeping beauty. Braids of hair fall on her face. Leonardo got up from his couch and sat in front of Ava. He raised his hand to gather her hair aside. But he stopped and made a fist. He stood up and laid back on the couch. He couldn't sleep for a few hours while thinking of Uncle Francis's words.
"Sometimes your steps slow down. The world is clouded in your eyes. You cannot realize the day when you think you are lost. Like wanting to cling to a rope. You put a seed of your heart in the soil of your own way. You call it hope. Call it love. You will wait for it to sprout. But while you wait with hope, you see that life has dried up your soil. As your love sprouts, it becomes weak. But sometimes you sow a seed in soil and you gave it water for years. You call it love. You wait for that tree to produce fruit. As you prepare to gather fruit, you see that life cut down your tree. Also, its roots are still there. Love is hurt now. You are the indicated one who walks to hurt the soul, to the body, to the one who looks, the one who stops and breathes. Even if the path is bumpy or sunny, it is you who appreciate your breath at the end of the road with your past that you had collected, with your present and the future, you are the one who resists that you will live. You want to break all the rules so that death doesn't find your loved ones. You can't know when you never expected, death and love are rooted together deep down."
The next morning Ava woke up. Leonardo was still sleeping. Ava went into the kitchen and prepared breakfast. Lucas woke up and he made Leonardo wake up as well. The fragrance of breakfast was spread throughout the entire house. They went into the kitchen. Ava was singing a song. Lucas put a finger on his mouth and gestured to Leonardo to stay quiet. Ava was not known until Lucas coughed. She got shied. She prepared the table for three of them and then sat with them. Ava told Leonardo that Mrs Jasmine will come in the daytime. Lucas argued as he wanted to spend time only with his aunt and uncle. Leonardo looked at Lucas and agreed with him. Ava raised her eyebrows. Leonardo told her that they both were kidding with her. Breakfast went quite enjoyable for them. Leonardo fixed Ava's bed and she cleaned the house. She was continually helping him. After that Leonardo also helped her in lunch-making. Leonardo was smiling at Ava's hesitative behaviour. Leonardo thought something. Mrs Jasmine arrived at lunch. After lunch, Mrs Jasmine and Ava sat in the lounge. They both were talking. Leonardo put his ears outside to listen to the words that Mrs Jasmine was talking about him. but their voice was slow so he only listened to his name every time by Mrs Jasmine.
Look he decided to stay with you instead of staying in that huge mansion. Mrs Jasmine said
Aunt, he is here for Lucas.
Her aunt looked at her with a smiling face.
Look he is caring after years of marriage happens. He is looking after his home and family. He values it a lot.
Aunt, for Lucas.. Ava shied
Ava's aunt left after tea. But Leonardo was curious about Ava's behaviour. He went outside and came after an hour with dessert and flowers.
What are these? Ava asked
This dessert for Lucas and …. For Lucas. These are his favourites. Leonardo said
Ava looked at the flowers. She smiled.
These are for….. A poor boy was selling these on the roadside. You have put a vase on the dining table. Maybe you want it. He gave flowers to Ava and looked at her.
These are beautiful. The smell is great. Thank you. Ava said.
Leonardo felt the touch of Ava's hand while she was taking flowers. And Ava felt cared for her through his behaviour. There was a feeling in both hearts as bad memories were falling apart and good was coming to them.
