Chapter 5: FLASH BACK
Jessie steps into the smith's home, although now an empty building. She remembers the very first day she was stepped her foot in the house, it was many years ago but the memories were still fresh in her head.
SOME YEARS AGO
Peter holds Jessie's hands as she walks out of his Mercedes Benz. Jessie's eyes travels round the big and very beautiful house
"Your house is a very nice."Jessie comments happily.
"It would soon be our house where our kids will be raised." Peter smiles then frowns all of a sudden and says."If you don't break my heart."
They both burst into laughter and they walk in. The interior decoration is so heart whelming and pleasant to the eyes. Jessie looked round the house again but this time around with more admiration or adoration.
"Wow, Peter this place is really nice. I must confess." Jessie says still looking round the house.
"I am glad you like it."Peter says and hugs her from behind wrapping his arms around hers and placing his lips gently on her neck that she could his breath."I can't wait to wake up having you next to me every morning."
"Me too, but I don't want to rush things." Jessie replies.
The statement seemed not to be okay with Peter as he draws apart from her and turns her to face him, he asks. "Why don't you want us to rush? Don't you feel the same way I feel?"
"Of course I do."Jessie says convincingly. "Let's be together, but I am scared of your father not liking me."
"What?"Peter asked and laughs loudly. "He is going to like you as far as I want you."He places one of his palms on her shoulder and says."Ma'am you worry too much."
"I just want to be sure." Jessie says as she gives him a light kiss and a warm hug.
That was how their relationship went for about two years until one faithful day Jessie got sick, very sick, it didn't seem like her normal morning illness because as at that moment she is with peter's child. Peter carries out some tests and finds out that is girlfriend has ectopic pregnancy. It is like a thunderstorm, how didn't he notice all this while? What was the usefulness of him being a doctor. The worst part is that the pregnancy now requires surgery.
They have no other choice than to carry out the surgery, Jessie has the surgery in the United States as her father instructed. Peter still in dismay, tired of keeping his relationship private because of some reasons that he doesn't know about. Jessie gets better and Peter decides to let the cat out the bag.
"Why don't you want to meet my father?" Peter asks.
"why are you bringing this up again? I thought we already talked it off." Jessie fumes.
"I have been with you for two years, you don't want us to neither get married nor meet my father. I am so worried, now imagine if we had been married we might not have lost this child like we did, you intended of having the child out of wedlock." Peter says with a annoyed but calm tone.
"I am just scared of marriage that's all." Jessie replies with a sober voice.
"Because of what you experienced as a child?"
Peter asks.
Jessie nods and says "I am really scared. I don't want to end up like my mom."
Peter hugs her tightly and is silent for a while.
"I will take care of you and be the mother you never had." Peter promised.
Jessie sobs gently for a second or two.
"I will meet your father now, it's time to face the reality." She decides.
Peter and Jessie sits side by side opposite Mr David. They seem to be discussing something very important and crucial.
"Father, this is the Jessie. My fiancée, I have been telling you about." Peter says with a smile on his face.
Mr David is silent,he stares at Jessie sternly, acting as if nothing is wrong, but just decides to stay silent.
Jessie after being worried over his silence for a while, decides to break the silence. " I have heard a lot about you father, I wish we get along well in the future." Jessie hopes.
"My son can't marry you." Mr David finally speaks. "He is betrothed to someone, although he isn't aware of it, I think it's time for him to know now."
It sounded like thunder storms to their ears. Betrothed? To who? Why? Where? When? So many questions fills peter's mind but he manage to settle for one the questions.
"Father, what are you talking about? Betrothed? To who?"
"Stop asking me too many questions, you can't marry this girl over here and that's final."
Mr David says and walks out.
Rejection, disappointment, betrayal, regret, is what fill up Jessie's mind but she holds back her tears firmly.
"Jessie, don't mind my father. He seems to be upset over something else." Peter stands. "Wait here, I will go talk to him."
He says and walks out of the environment.
Jessie's eyes follow him with pains, until disappears into one of the rooms, she smiles bitterly. The house is quiet and calm for about 10 seconds, then Peter walks out in annoyance and asks for them to leave. Jessie obeys not uttering a single word all through the journey back to her house.
They finally arrive at her house and she alights from the car, peter just says in a sad tone 'I will give you a call' and then drives off.
Is this the end of their beginning? Jessie asks no one in particular and walks her disappointed self inside the house.
