Chapter 21: This Will Be My Beginning

Chapter 21:

"Hiss…" Tenshi let out a hiss as he felt the large scar that was located on his chest. Every day, he would examine the scar, and he would think about how fragile he was.

Even when his bloodline was released, the magical black infection scar would not go away, and it continued to cause him excruciating anguish at every single moment. However, at this point, he is not bothered by it in the least since it has been so long since he last had this scar.

The enormous Shadowed monster clad in armor reported to its monarch, "My king, I noticed a group of Kobolds strolling about."

"Kargoth… How many times have I emphasized that you should refer to me as Tenshi?" Tenshi made an irritating statement.

"Many times, my king," Kargoth remarked nonchalantly, causing Tenshi to moan.

'I give up,' Tenshi thought to himself.

Tenshi then said, "Capture them if you can, and always make sure nobody escapes."

A group of six Kobolds, some of whom were severely injured, were soon brought in front of them.

A Kobold, with an angry expression that was looking intently in the front, yelled, "Release me Human or our leader will attack your town again!"

Tenshi was speechless after hearing what the Kobold had to say. He wasn't afraid of anybody or anything, but the news that there was a human colony shocked him.

Tenshi made no effort to engage in conversation with them or to inquire about anything. When he raised his hand, the marking on his hand transformed into golden tendrils and began making its way toward the Kobolds who were terrified.

After looking through the memories of the Kobald, Tenshi discovered that those sinners who had 'completed' their punishment had established many colonies all around Limbo. Their spirit is either too burdened with guilt to be able to descend from Hell, or Hell has already corrupted their spirit for them to be able to do so.

While Tenshi's tendrils were busy consuming the mana from the Kobolds, giving them the appearance of being mummified, Tenshi formulated a strategy for visiting one of those communities.

Tenshi, who had been gazing up at the sky, said, "Stay in the air Liya, I want to examine the human village the Kobold spoke about."

Tenshi made his way towards the human village, oblivious to the fact that nobody was following him. And because he was walking, it only took him about an hour to arrive at the destination.

"Holt"

When he arrived at the settlement, he was met by someone who appeared human for the first time in a long time.

"Yes?" Tenshi questioned the situation as he was held back at the chained wooden gate, which could easily be burst through with a single blow.

The guy dressed in leather and brandishing a wooden spear questioned Tenshi, who was new to the area, "Are you new around here?"

Tenshi, who had already performed the [Disguise Self] spell on himself. Tenshi then spoke in the voice of a little boy while assuming the appearance of a naive kid, "Y-yes, I was lost from our group. I haven't seen them in days and am seeking any assistance I can get."

The man's smile became practically a grin at one point. "Well, our folks are friendly. They are able to point the way."

Opening the wooden door, he came inside.

Even though Tenshi arrived at the settlement with lower hopes, he was nevertheless let down when he saw it. It is possible to refer to it as a slum, no it is far worse than slums. There are nothing but mud shacks with thatch roofs, no doors, and rubbish strewn over the roadways in every direction.

The guard led Tenshi in the direction of a home that seemed to be the least appealing of all the others. As Tenshi was receiving a lot of strange glances and hostile looks.

What greeted Tenshi was a guy who seemed to have a little friendlier demeanor than everyone else who was dressed in ripped clothing and was shortly welcomed with "Welcome, explorer!"

Tenshi discovered that he had not been given a name from the moment he reached the settlement, so he said, "Hello, what may I call you by?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, you may call me Seo Lee. I'm the mayor of this... community," Seo said.

Seo had what seemed to be of Korean descent, straight black hair, a small nose, and black with slightly curved down eyes.

Tenshi said, "You can call me Tenshi."

Tenshi then proceeded to convey to him the identical thing that he had previously said to the guard that was stationed outside but with a few more specifics.

"I see, tomorrow we are going on a hunt, so we will be happy to assist you in any way we can. Thank you so much for coming here, the guest room is located to the left."

"Shhhh!"

"Oh shut up. The sedative that we have dispersed across the air has already put him to sleep."

"Oh!"

"Moron"

Tenshi, who was awake and alert, was able to listen in on the talks that the intruders who had entered his room were having.

'I was poisoned?' Tenshi thought. He was acting as if he was sleeping, but he was really perplexed.

Tenshi's hand began to light as it made a runic design, and he thought, '[Sleep].'

"Wha-" The trespassers were quickly put to sleep before they were able to alert anyone else.

When Tenshi opened his eyes, he confirmed his suspicions and saw five individuals, each of whom was brandishing a club, and a bag.

A number of Shadows on their knees began oozing out from below his feet.

"Bring the mayor to me without making a sound," Tenshi gave the command, and very quickly, the shadow vanished into the darkness, leaving no traces behind.

With [Minor Illusion] and a few spells, Tenshi prevented any light or sound from leaving the location.

Tenshi then moved closer to the five invaders and placed a rag over their mouths as he froze their legs and hands with cold.

Tenshi did not want to murder them without a justification; rather, he saw himself as a fellow human at the time and continues to do so now. So that he could listen to their narrative and determine what would happen to them.

"My king"

As he turned around, his Shadow was there, lying next to an unconscious individual on the ground. And when one looked more attentively, they could see that the back of the head was bleeding.

'That's one way to do it.' Tenshi muttered to himself as his Shadow Soldiers have very little intellect and would just carry out the commands they are given, he planned to attempt to improve this in the future.

"Wake up!" Tenshi shook Seo awake with a smack, which caused him to scream.

"Y-you... Friend, I don't understand why you're doing this to me." When Seo looked across at the invaders, who were only partially frozen, beads of sweat started to form on his forehead.

"I will ask you a question. If you answer me honestly, I will allow you to continue living... DO NOT try my patience, as I can feel if you lie." As Tenshi lowered himself to a squat, he gave out a warning to Seo.

Fearfully, Seo bowed his head in agreement as tears began to form in his eyes.

"Did you dispatch these individuals with the intention of kidnapping me?" Tenshi started out by posing the first question.

Unanticipatedly, Seo made a head shake and spoke the word "Never."

Tenshi was perplexed by the mayor's actions; he had seen similar situations depicted in the movies that he had seen. Tenshi was half expecting the mayor to send people after him.

"Do you know the reason why they are here and who sent them?" Tenshi posed the same question but in a slightly different way.

Again, Seo shook his head, but all he could say was, "AAAAAA."

When Tenshi used the magic "Shocking Grasp," which gives your hands the ability to generate electricity, Seo got a taste of what it feels like electrocution.

Tenshi pointed to the terrifying monsters of the Dark Shadow and said, "Lie... now this is my last warning; if you do not comply, I will feed you to those demons."

"Did you or did you not know where they are here?" Tenshi repeated his question.

"I d-do… but I did my best... I tried to stop them" Seo, the mayor, seemed helpless as tears were streaming from his eyes.

"I am done playing games" Tenshi was growing agitated and grasped Seo's hair and forced him gaze into Tenshi's ominous red eyes.

"Where am I," Seo questioned his surroundings after finding himself in a barren area.

Soon after that, images of him from his period when he was considerably younger began to surface.

"JING!" The sight of Seo's stunning wife filled him with dread.

Jing, his wife, had a timid smile on her face and was holding hands with a charming guy who looked like a younger version of Seo. Her cheeks had a pinkish tint to them.

"My wedding?" Seo had trouble recalling the most wonderful day of his life, which was the day he married the person he had loved for a very long time.

Soon the images started to change.

"No no no…" The same nightmare that Seo had been going through finally caught up with him, and he cried, "Please, PLEASE NO!"

A cute little kid was perched on her father's shoulders as a lady, and a guy was seen holding hands.

Suddenly, bullets were fired, which caused complete mayhem.

Seo curled up on the ground, covering his eyes with his hands and covering his ears with his other hand as he shivered.

Soldiers moved forward as the unrestrained fire was directed into the masses of protesters.

"I suppose it was during the Korean War," a voice said, prompting Seo to open his eyes and glance up at the winged guy in the sky.

"Y-you are an angel?" When Seo looked across at Tenshi, he inquired.

Tenshi was overcome with a sense of déjà vu all of a sudden, and he shook his head and muttered, "Let's see your life, Seo Lee."

The atmosphere deteriorated into setting Hell, and on top of a sizable throng stood a man who gazed at the listeners.

Seo was familiar with the occasion since it was the day he was released from the confines of Hell and given his freedom back.

The first thing he did was assemble a group of individuals who were similar to himself in order to establish a community. At that time, he had lofty goals, including the aspirations of assisting others, acting as a role model for young people, and motivating others.

But very quickly, he was confronted with the first and most significant error of his career.

"Tch…" What Tenshi was witnessing made him feel sick to his stomach. Though he was just as hypocritical as they were, it revolted him to witness them consuming the lifeless corpse of a... person.

The food was scarce, and the Devils only provided water to those who paid their fees to them. This water was quickly running out.

Seo battled as hard as he could, but unfortunately, the villagers were driven to the point of desperation by their hunger, and they began devouring their own dead victims.

Even Seo, who was famished, could not resist the temptation to eat.

"I truly feel terrible…" Tenshi stated this to Sea when he stood in front of him with a hole in his chest and apologized. "You were a righteous man, but the circumstances forced you to change... therefore, I am sorry in advance."

Tenshi blinked his eyes back open and hit the wall, creating a significant hole in the wall.

Tenshi reminisced about the days when he was weak and needed to eat hearts and drink blood in order to live. "Weakness... desperation... and helplessness," he added, thinking back to those times.

"I am still weak…. I need to be cruel… more ruthless," Tenshi said to himself.

Suddenly a massive energy wave emerged from Tenshi, causing the house to shake and things to rise above the ground.

Tenshi stared at the lifeless body of Seo, whose chest had been opened to reveal his heart, and thought, "This will be my beginning."
