Chapter 21: The Real Face Of Baroque Works

"Looks like I would survive using it"

Zoro said with his signature smirk on his face as his arm was still extended.

.............

Thud!

"Sigh... Your crazy!"

Nami breathed a sigh of relief as she fell toward the floor, Bryan and Masterson exhaled the breath they were holding.

Afterward, Bryan goes toward Zoro and grabs him on his shoulder tightly, and says with a serious look on his face.

"Don't ever do those crazy stunts again..."

"calm down, didn't you see that I'm fine"

Zoro said, he then swatted Bryan's hand from his shoulder and took the sword that was stuck in the floor.

"And what if it cut through your hand? what are you going to do then?"

Bryan asked with frustration in his voice, he doesn't like it when people that he considers his friends do crazy stunts that might injure them and for a reason that isn't worth losing an arm.

Because if his goal was to become stronger, then what he did wouldn't have done anything that would make him stronger.

When Zoro heard what Bryan said, he looked at him and said it with a teasing smirk on his face.

"Then I wasn't man enough to use it and I would need to learn how to live with one hand"

"Ahhh... It's like I'm talking with a brick wall"

Bryan said as he scratched his head in frustration, at that moment Masterson took a step forward and said at Zoro with a faint smile to defuse the situation.

"Don't you want to try your new swords"

Zoro looked at Masterson's expression and knew that he was scheming something but it is true that he wanted to try his new sword.

"Sure, let go"

Zoro said with a confident smirk on his face, he then walks past Nami and out of the room, he doesn't care what Masterson is planning since he would just cut it if it was anything bad or dangerous.

"What about you? will you join us"

"..."

After Zoro walked out of the room Masterson shifted his forces to Bryan who was quietly looking at him without saying anything.

"won't show us the strength of your hammer and axe or are you scared after seeing Zoro's new sword?"

Master said with amusement twinkling in his eyes, but Bryan didn't fall to his bait, he just looked at him as his anger and goofy behavior and person started to fade away as he said.

"you don't need to play those mind games with me to see my strength because I knew that you will want to see it"

Bryan said as he walked past Masterson, he knew since joining B. W that his new partner or boss would want to try to gauge their strength and that's also why he tried to in rage Zoro by saying what he said before.

'Sigh... So he knew'

Masterson sighed as he looked at Bryan's back, he knew that he wasn't cut out for mind games but he doesn't want to show them that he doesn't trust Mr. 1's judgment or accidentally anger by doubting their strength since he will need their help if he wants to make his plan a reality...

"Take care of Carol while I'm gone will you Nami dear"

Masterson then took his eyes off Bryan's back and looked at the orange-haired girl as he patted her head with a soft expression on his face.

It was nice to have her here since she's one of the few people that he trusts here, and that says a lot since the people he trusts can be counted on one hand.

"Sure don't worry"

Nami said as she nodded her head, Masterson smiled gently after hearing that.

He then walked toward the men and took them in the direction of the special elevator that only a Number agents are allowed on it

The special elevator was made of glass and metal lets its riders see everything that was happening on the floor.

The elevator made of glass and metal would take them to the Underground, where the real face of Baroque works would be shown to them...

.............

"If we are going to fight why are we going underground?"

Zoro asked as he rode the elevator with a confessed expression on his face. Because when they arrived at this fort he saw that they had a big front and back yard.

"It is so nobody sees or knows about your abilities and also to show you something..."

Masterson answers his question as he looks out of the glass window and into the floor beneath them where you can see people doing their jobs.

They went past them and into the third floor and then the second floor as the elevator was going down.

"Show us what?"

Bryan asked when he saw the serious look on Masterson's face.

Masterson didn't say anything until they were under the ground.

"The real face of Baroque Work"

The moment he finished saying that they arrived at the underground floor.

"This!! / What!!!"

Shocking Bryan and Zoro who thought that they wouldn't be shocked anymore by what Baroque Works does, but this...

Because what they saw was too surprising, they expected it to be a normal basement, not this...

A cave that stretched endless under the LogueTown island, it had paths like the roots of a tree that went everywhere.

But that wasn't the thing that shocked Bryan and Zoro but what Baroque Works was using the cave for...

The cave was filled with piles and piles of carts, boxes, tents, and various trade goods that were stacked and packed, ready to be sold.

If it was normal good then it would be fine, but they could see them filling the boxes with white powder bags and weapons of every shape, from swords, spears to Guns, Cannons, and everything you imagine, and finally humans they were shipping humans with a metal collar wrapped around their neck...

"It is true that we capture pirates and open bases to protect islands, but you need to know that it's not that profitable, making Baroque Works loss a lot of money and so to cover their expenses for expanding this quickly they needed to do something..."

"..."

"That is when Baroque Works found this Cave, which Mr.1 quickly brought all this land over it and the once near the port and started his plan to generate cash quickly ..."

Masterson said without taking his eyes off the carts that were filled with humans.

"They then started to smuggle all kinds of illegal goods, that was either made here or bought and sold it throughout the East Blue in ships that we the agent's bodyguard until it arrives at the auctions or the buyers"

"What does Baroque Works make here?"

Zoro asked Masterson who paused his explanation and looked at Bryan and Zoro's expressions that became darker and darker as they realized the magnitude of the situation.

"Drugs, assembling of weapons and... do you know Baroque works does with the pirates who don't have a bounties?"

Masterson said as they were swallowed by the earth as they continued going downwards with a serious look on his face.

"..."

As Bryan and Zoro thought about what they might do to those pirates their expression quickly changed into a surprised look as they realized what they planned to do with the pirates and then darkened as they yelled.

"Slaves! / Slaves!"

"Yes slaves, they bring all the pirates here to be trained to be obedient soldiers to their new owners afterward they sell them to kingdoms in need of expandable soldiers who wouldn't disobey their commands"

Masterson said as they arrived on the second floor underground, which was filled with labs that made drugs or assembled weapons and there were many people with collars on their necks in cages being used as test subjects for the drugs that they made.

"and if they have any good talent they join Baroque as the suicide squad that is sent to the most dangerous mission or spy on pirates or to make their own pirate crew"

Masterson explained as they were going deeper into the ground with a serious look on his face.

Zoro and Bryan looked at the drug labs and the slaves' cages with ugly looks on their faces.

" Saviors of the East Blue... Jajaja!... what an irony!"

Bryan said as he laughed bitterly as he looked at all the things that were being made here.

He knew that the majority of these things would be smuggled into unstable islands that were under war to make it more chaotic...

"All those stuff aren't only sold in the East Blue, they also shipped to the other blue seas, Baroque didn't come here just for the publics love but to have a place that they can make weapon factories"

Masterson said as they were once again going deeper into the ground with a serious look on his face while looking at all the things happening here.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

Hello everyone, Author here.

While writing this chapter yesterday I wrote more them a 500-word count on an underground city that was supposed to be on the first floor of the cave. (by the way the cave is 3 floors deep and so the next chapter we will arrive at the last one)

But when I reread it today I thought how could they build a secret city this big in 5 months and with all of those people visiting without the world government knowing anything about was not possible lol :) (I thought about it being an ancient city that people used to hide 800 years ago that B.W agents found but I didn't to leave it out since I already add some many original idea in this story already and because I like the way loguetown is, so if you are interest in it I might add it in the future )

And so I cut it out of the chapter and rewrote it all once again like how you read, if you are interested tell me I will upload it in the next chapter.

Anyway, now that I've finished ranting, what do you guys think about the chapter? The last few chapters painted a good look for Baroque Works right, but now we will see the true colors of them.

I need to remind you that I wouldn't make Baroque Works the force of good just because Zoro joined, or that Baroque Works helped a lot of people in East Blue

Because I don't think Mr.0 would really care about the people who are suffering the world, he would just put a kind act as he expanded his strength. like in the mange when he made the Alabasta's citizens fall in love with him.

Okay that all peace out :)
