Chapter 2: Learning To Survive
" Please! Don't hurt me! " I said raising my hands as he got closer.
" I don't kill girls. " He argued bending down in front of me.
I cringed but nodded, the demon smiled and laughed wildly.
" You must be one rebellious sibling for him to go this far. " He said taking the chains of my wrists and pulling me up on my feet and dragging me up the basement stairs.
He pulled me through the hall and as he dragged me into the living room, I looked for my brother's body but he wasn't there.
When he dragged me outside I wished I didn't have to see the gore and murdering all around me. I would never get the scene out of my brain for as long as I lived.
All my life I was learning to survive despite everything I was going through, despite everything I had experienced but nothing could have possibly prepared me for this moment. As I stared at the carnage and the demons causing it I couldn't help but think that I couldn't possibly survive what was about to happen to me.
The demon threw me to the ground and I gasped at the pain it brought.
" I found this one in a basement shackled to the wall. " He announced.
One of them stood out in the darkness and his eyes were harder to miss. His hair was whitish blonde and he wore a weird looking hat and carried a gold fan.
" Is that so, she was most beautiful before she had the cuts. She would make a good snack for me. " He purred.
" Tell us your name. " A giant asked.
This was a different kind of demon, this one made me tremble with fear by even hearing his voice. He had multiple eyes and had a moon shape mark on his face. This demon had to be extremely old and learned a lot out of his life.
" M-my name is M-Macie. Macie Tsuji. " I stuttered in fear.
" What an innocent name. But then why would you be chained to a wall. " He mused.
" W-what do you want with me? " I asked fearfully.
" We are going to kill you and feed on your flesh. " The blonde one stated.
" P-please let me go, I won't say a word of this night, I swear it! " I begged.
The scary one bent down and gently caressed my chin making me look into a set of his eyes.
" You see little Macie, we are demons and demons don't have mercy. We are monsters, nothing more, nothing less. I guess I could do you a small favor by making it a quick painless death or I could make it very painful and slow. " He muttered to himself
I began to shake with sobs and he smiled and raised a Nichirin sword I have only seen demon slayers use. I closed my eyes as he brought the sword down, but the pain never came but instead a metal on metal clang sounded making my ears ring. I opened my eyes and there was a guy with familiar red hair intercepting the death blow I was supposed to have gotten.
" Axel? " I asked confused.
" Are you hurt? " He asked.
" How did you get here? Why are you here? " I asked, confused.
" Are You Hurt, Macie? " he asked sternly.
" Yes, I am also getting tired. " I said laying my head down.
Then I noticed the uniform and sword he wore. He was in fact a demon slayer. I wanted to be a demon slayer like others but it never worked out in my favor. Before I could fully finish that thought a blur of motion caught my eyes just in time to see a tall white haired guy with a jewel headband on grab me and lift me off the ground.
" Put me down! " I hissed.
" It's okay, you're safe. My name is Tengen and I am a Hashira " He said as he ran at top speed.
" You're what? " I asked.
Then It hit me that Axel was going toe to toe with the demons.
" What about Axel, you can't just leave him! " I cried.
" Axel is a member of the demon slayer corps. This is what he was trained to do. " He said.
A few minutes later I could no longer keep my eyes open and I fell into a deep sleep.
When I woke I was in a brightly lit room and laying on a small bed with my face bandaged and as I rose into the sitting position I felt other injuries other than just my face. When I frowned parts of my face tugged and I realized I had stitches on my face.
Two sets of footsteps made my body stiffen and I became alert. It was five minutes before the door to my room was opened and two figures in demon slayer uniforms walked into the light of the room. One I knew right away from her hair and the way her eyes began to tear up as she looked at me. The other was more difficult since she had dyed her hair purple. Ena in her purple hair and Siani with her white hair. Ena was known in her village for her gorgeous Violet eyes and Siani was known for her rare colored hair and vivid pink eyes. Both were very fit and beautiful. They were my best friends in school and they still are.
" Ena? Siani? I haven't seen you in a long time! " I said.
The tears were flowing down my face now and Siani was the first to run to me followed by Ena.
" Where have you been for the past eight years? " Siani cried.
" It was your brother right? Is that why you look like you just got cut up by a saw? " Ena muttered trying to hide the tears from her voice.
I could only nod and they both stepped back and looked like the epitome of revenge.
" Did the demons get your brother Noah? He deserved to die a horrible death " Ena Growled.
" I didn't see his body, I don't even know if he escaped or if he is dead. I was about to be demon food but Axel was the one who... " I started.
" Axel! " I gasped.
" Where is Axel? " I said getting to my feet and almost running out of the room.
" Macie, you shouldn't be out of bed! " Ena yelled after me.
I had no idea where I was, or how I knew where to go, but I let my feet guide me through the place. It wasn't long before I came to the entrance of the place and to my surprise Axel was walking into the entrance as I stumbled to a halt.
My heart squeezed tight and tears ran in torrents as I saw him look right at me.
He stopped and I ran at him and just as I reached him I wrapped my arms around his neck and there I sat sobbing and grasping him tightly.
" It's okay he'll never hurt you again. " He whispered softly.
I let myself process what happened and as we walked into the main building I began to feel revenge and anger seeping into my blood like molten lava. I knew what I was going to do... I was going to be a demon slayer and I was going to kill every one of those demons that slaughtered my village. The games were about to begin and the demons were going to pay for what they did I will make sure of that.
