Chapter 5: Chapter 5_ Reading auras

Grace woke up very early the next day after getting herself ready she went to the. She already has a plan for the day. Feeling optimistic about her plans, she opened the door Without wasting any time She stopped on her track when she saw Stave holding his hand up in the air about to knock.

"Good morning stave" Grace greeted him excitedly.

"Morning Miss Lockwood "

"Oh come on, I already told you to drop the formalities. Just call me Grace like everyone else".

"Ok"

"So, what are we doing today?" Grace asked while walking beside Stave.

"I don't know yet let's wait until Joseph comes".

Grace didn't say anything again until they got to where they were going.

"So... I have a question"

"What is it "Steve asked.

"Can guardians teleport?"

"No" Stave replied shortly.

"What about the Lockwood's you guys said they are more powerful ".

"They are but, I've never heard of them having teleportation powers".

"Hmmm. What about... The boy in the story? You know the one the Lockwood's daughter gave birth to ".

"They said he has immense powers but they never mentioned teleportation amongst them. But why do you ask?"

"No reasons, I just wanted to know if they can. Won't that have been great?".

"Yes, ".

But then they saw Joseph walking towards them.

"Someone woke up early," Joseph said.

"Excited to learn. So what do we have for today? Time to perform some cool magic?" Grace was excited.

"Point of correction it's not magic and we are not going to do whatever you might have thought because we'll be doing something different ".

"Huh? Something different?"

"Yes. You see, as a guardian you can easily see behind everyone's mask. What they look like behind the glamour.

Grace was confused. "What do you mean by that?".

"Everyone has their true form being it guardians, witches, demons, and every other creature. You can see behind their facade.

"Now, I want you to look at Rachel," he said pointing to Rachel who was busy lecturing some of the savant's at the side.

Grace looked at her but didn't see anything.

"I'm not seeing anything".

"Look harder" Joseph pressure her.

She focused her eyes on her but still did not see anything out of the ordinary.

"I don't see anything "

"Okay, now look at Stave and tell me what you see".

She turned to look at Stave but still could not see anything.

"I don't see anything"

"Keep on looking, fish out the slitted change you find, and look deeper into it".

"I said I'm not seeing anything. You know what? This is useless..s " Grace was unable to finish her sentence when she saw some chimer around Stave.

"That's it. Now look deeper" Joseph encouraged her.

Grace followed his instructions and focused on Stave. She was amazed by what she saw. Stave has a whitish glow around him one that is so pure that can easily put your mind at ease. And his are white. And there's some white smoke behind his back that looks like winds.

"Wow" Grace exclaim. This is so amazing wait is that wind" Grace was overwhelmed.

"Not, they are not . They are just fragments of what it should have been. But I'm sure the Lockwoods' own are different".

"Can you look at me and tell me what It looks like " Grace was excited.

"No one has ever seen Lockwood's true form. Only a Lockwood can see Lockwood's true form. But there's a myth that says they shine like the sun and that the child Lockwood's daughter gave birth to has wings but no one knows for sure".

"So are you saying that only a Lockwood can see my true form?"

"Yes. Now let's go back to training. I want you to go back to Rachel and tell me what you see " Joseph urged her.

Grace looked at her carefully but didn't see anything.

"What did you see"

"Nothing. I saw nothing?"

"Exactly "

"What do you mean, " Grace asked.

"That's because they are both different. As you already know, Stave is the guardian but Rachel is a human that's why you didn't see anything thing. What you see is what get".

"I thought she was one of you I mean us" Grace quickly corrected herself.

"One of you actually "

"What do you mean"Grace asked.

"I want you to look at me and tell me what you see ".

Grace looked at Him and saw something different.

"What is that," Grace asked.

"I don't know you tell me".

"It's like you are being engulfed in a white and greenish glow and your eyes are forest green ?"

The aura around him was so terrifying that Grace was afraid to even look further.

"What are you?" Grace asked with a shaking voice.

"I'm a hybrid, the first of my kind. My father was a guardian and my mother was a witch. The other aura you saw around me is that of a witch ".

"What?"

"It was the first time in history a guardian born of a witch. My father was terrified of what I will become of me so he tried to kill me know even before I was born. My mother was able to save me due to the support of her people. They were glad that they now have leverage over the guardians in case a war breaks out in the future. They even encouraged more witches to do the same when they realized how strong I was. But my father was relentless and sent people after me when I was sixteen but your mother saved me from them. Humm" He signs.

" Most of the people here are not working for your mother because of the pay but because they all own their lives to her. Their loyalty is unbreakable they are ready to lay down their lives for her and will also do the same for you ".

Grace was at a loss for words. She didn't know her mother was such a great woman. And she couldn't wait to meet her.

"So.. this means you can do magic and also use angelic powers".

"Yes, but I'm better in witchcraft because of where I was brought up ".

"Wow, that's great. Can you like.. perform some cool magic for me?" Grace said.

"No" Joseph replied.

"Why? You just have to do some abracadabra " Grace said demonstrating her hands.

"Training is over go back to your room," Joseph said before leaving. Grace was disappointed but she heard someone chuckle behind her.

"Did you just laugh at me?"

"No, how can I" Stave replied still trying to hide his smile.

"You're lying," Grace said walking close to him. Stave had no choice but to step back seeing the angry look on her face. But Stave was startled when she completely changed her attitude to a sweet one.

"How about we learn some new things," Grace said with a smiling face.

"What.. what do you mean " Stave was confused.

"I mean how about you teach me some other things ".

"Okay," Stave said breathing a sign of relief.

*****

Somewhere inside the city, three people were having a serious discussion.

"They got her out of the orphanage a few days ago but we currently don't know where they are. It's like they just vanished" a guy who was putting on a red shirt and blue jeans said to the other one who was sitting facing the wall.

"Look Max, the elders gave us this task because they trust us to find her," the girl amongst them said.

"Can you just show some interest?" The first guy yelled at Max who was still facing the walls.

"What do you want me to do" Max finally said turning around to face them.

"Help out at least? " the first guy said.

"Simon I don't like your tone," Max said to him.

"Just look at him? He will let us do all the work and then take all the credit " Simon said turning to the girl sitting beside him.

"Please can you guys just stop arguing" she yelled feeling like a mother who have to put some sense into her children's heads.

"Mira where did you say you lost track of them," Max asked her.

"It's was between here, " Mira said pointing to the map on the table. I just wished we have any of her belongings so we can do a location spell.

"Did you ask for it at the orphanage?" Max asked her.

"Did you think they will just hand it over if we asked? I paid someone to check it out but got nothing ".

"Why did you send someone? Can't you just do it yourself?".

"Huh. Are you trying to provoke me? Don't you know witches can't step their foot there?" Mira asked him already boiling inside with anger.

"It's an orphanage, not a church".

"Are they not the same thing? Mira tried to control herself.

"Ok ok, let's forget that. Now we have to figure out our next move.

****

"Where are we going?" Grace asked Stave.

"To the library "

"Huh? I don't like reading ".

"You have to if, you want to get better" Steve replied. " And I will also show you some cool stuff".

"Okay if you say so ".

They walked into a room filled with books. Grace has not seen so many books before.

"Is this the city library? I heard it's very big just like this"

"No, it's not. And there's a bigger one at the headquarters".

"Headquarters?" Grace was confused.

"Yes, it's where the Lockwoods live. They have the biggest library and books you can't find anywhere else about the supernatural world" Stave explained to her.

"You mean all the books where are about the supernatural world? And not about philosophy?"

"No. There are a lot of dangerous creatures out there. If you want to know more about them and how to train yourself better you can find it here ".

"That's cool "

"Follow me I want to show you something". Stave said motioning her to follow.

They entered the room next to the library.

"Oh my God is this what I think it is?" Grace echo.
