Chapter 12: Secrets Of The System
"Welcome back." Fae said with a smile. Over the past 48 hours this system has been Fae's greatest asset, he didn't know whether the system had feelings or not but he knew that he would treat it like a friend, because to him the system was the greatest friend imaginable.
{Thank you Fae, would you like to hear about some of the upgrades?} Immediately Fae raised an eyebrow as he heard this, up until now the system had always referred to him as 'host' and suddenly the system was calling him by his name; the systems voice even changed, from that of a monotonous robot, to a more rugged sounding masculine voice.
"Who's that?" Fae asked with alarm. {This is another feature of the system upgrade. I have taken on a more human feel to match yours.} When Fae heard this he was very surprised, he wondered if the system was mimicking human feelings or if he actually felt them, but he knew now wasn't the time to ask.
"Tell me about the upgrades." Fae said, ready to figure just what new features he would soon become privy too.

Fae had absolutely no idea what most of these things would mean for the system, but he knew he was in a whole different ball park.
{it's recommended you obtain a bloodline before the entrance exam.} "How? I am not a Mythic." Fae said slightly confused. {That is where you're wrong Fae, you are a Mythic. The likes of which haven't graced this world in a long time.} "What? I was tested, I have absolutely no bloodline energy." At this point Fae's head was spinning, he was beginning to lose faith in the system that he had deemed as his most important asset. Here it was spouting out nonsense.

"I'm reading it but I don't understand, are you saying that I can take someone's bloodline?" Fae couldn't believe something like that truly existed. {I am not yet able to reveal anything to you Fae, I shall simply guide you in the right path. The path of the Devourer} "What's a Devourer? You're confusing me." The system was quiet for a little while after this, as if it was thinking, eventually it spoke. {System level not high enough to access this information.}
Fae became frustrated at this. Fae had put so much faith in this system, he had been in multiple life or death situations he only survived because of this system, he trusted this system; but now this system was hiding things from him. Things that seemed truly important.
It seemed as if the system could sense this frustration as it began to speak. {I'm sorry Fae, truly I am. I know you have questions, but I am not currently equipped to answer them for you. All I can do is lead you on the right path, and that I will.}
Fae decided to ignore all the questions bubbling in his head for now and just keep moving as he was before. "How do I go about getting another bloodline?" Fae asked the system. {Defeat a Mythic and use the Devour move on them.} "So I'll I have to do is beat someone and I'll be able to take their bloodline?" Fae asked in a gleeful tone, this didn't seem to hard. {No Fae, you must kill someone before you can remove the bloodline from them.} Fae almost choked on his own saliva as he heard this. "Kill someone? Just for their bloodline? Isn't that a bit drastic?' Fae had already killed the Tremble twins, but that was for survival, he didn't think he was capable of killing someone because they had something he wanted. Wasn't that just robbery? {Currently that is the only way, once the level of the skill is higher not only will the speed and purity of bloodline you can take increase, but you'll be able to take it from living targets.
Fae felt defeated after he heard this, he thought he'd actually be able to gain a bloodline, but he knew that he couldn't... no he WOULDN'T kill for one.

As Fae walked the streets of Levings, he was being trailed from the shadows. "I can't even sense any bloodline energy from the boy, a mortal daring to walk our streets alone?" A man wearing traditional assassin clothing said staring at the man beside him. "Go home Zach, I'll handle this one" The man said as he began to step out of the shadows a bit more. "Fine, don't be to careless Billy." The other man said as he fell back into the shadows of the night. Leaving just the man in the assassins clothing.

Fae was slowly getting tired. He had been walking for hours and was almost at his limit. He knew he had a few hours before noon and thought maybe he could find an alley or something to sleep in, as the only money he had was the golden coin he intended to use as his entrance fee. After about 10 more minutes of walking he found where he would set camp, he turned off the streets and fell further into an alley in between 2 buildings one labeled 'Bronze Delights' A popular franchise where mostly miscellaneous or slightly useful objects could be found at the cheapest prices, never entering even 1 silver; the other store being a bartering store entitled 'Trick of The Trade'. As Fae got to the end of the alley he took off his coat and laid it on the ground, using it for a place to sleep.
Just before Fae could lay down the system exploded in Fae's ear
{SYSTEM WARNING!! DODGE LEFT} Confused Fae instantly jumped to the side as a giant ice blade stabbed through the area Fae was about to lay on. Fae turned to where the blade came from and saw a man with his arms crossed standing in front of the entrance to this alley. "Lucky dodge." Billy said as he dashed towards Fae. For the first time in a long time Fae stared at this man and only had one thought. 'He isn't stronger than me.' Fae had become so used to barely scraping by fighting people stronger than him that he was refreshed to see that the person in front of him wasn't insanely powerful. 'Wow I can win thi-' Fae's words were cut short as a block of ice slammed into the back of his head.

OnyxSerpent Little info dumo: Mythic rank is a measurement of the level someone has trained their body and bloodline too. There's many different ranks falling into 9 levels each. For example Tessa as a Spirit Rank 1 Mythic, is vastly stronger than the Tremble twins who were about Human rank 2 and 3 originally, and the forest giant was spirit rank 3 making it stronger than Tessa. Bloodline purity is a measurement of the purity of the Mythic blood in someone's system. For example someone with an A+ ranked bloodline would have way more access to abilities and way more growth potential than someone with an F ranked bloodline, even if they're both descendants of the same mythical being.
