Chapter 8: The clock struckes. Everyone

"Everything that doesn't happen is for the best. Except when everything leads to the worst." - Lasombra.

*****

Magic Crest is the most important value in the heritage of mages. The Emblem represents Magical Chains, which have been given a more stable form and put on the body like a magical circle. The mark holds all the magical knowledge accumulated over many generations of a mage's family. At a certain point in his life, the magician weaves some of his Magical Chains into the Sign, thereby storing in it all the knowledge gained during his life, and passes it on to his heir. This process repeats from one generation to another, so the more generations in a magician's family, the more chains are woven into the Sign and the more knowledge it contains. It is the duty of each heir to weave new Chains into the Sign and pass it on to the next generation.

As the complexity of the Mark increases with each new generation, the spells stored within it become more stable and easily activated. As long as the Mark remains on a mage's body, he [the mage] is able to cast any spell stored in the Mark, even if he himself could never learn it correctly. All a magician has to do is activate the Token in the same way as a Magical Chain (by casting a stream of prana into it), find the desired spell in it, and cast it using the magic process or formula that corresponds to it. Additionally, the Sign can be used to keep the mage alive as long as his prana remains in his body, regardless of the severity of his wounds.

Three years later. January 1997.

The sun began to peek out from behind the horizon, its first rays dispersing the darkness, reminiscent of an angel descending to the people.

A dog barked somewhere, a door creaked, people's voices rang out.

In the dojo, a child of about fourteen was practicing his fighting moves. He was constantly changing tempo, speed, and fighting style.

Sora was practicing the katas he had learned over the past three years.

He drew a figure-of-eight in the air and lunged forward, followed by a 180-degree turn and a low sweep. Without stopping, he did a backward somersault, thus rising from a low position. A sharp jerk forward, a knee strike, a quick series of punches with his left hand and a finishing, strong right punch. His fighting style resembled raging flames.

If there were a martial arts master here, he would have noticed that Sora masterfully combines different martial arts into one martial style. And while there is nothing magical or supernatural about the techniques he is practicing, it is still an impossible feat for a child - indeed, it is impossible for almost any normal person.

Watching Sora's training one got the feeling that he was fighting an invisible opponent. Which was not far from the truth. Sora practiced shadow-fighting, a training method, the essence of which is to fight an imaginary opponent. This technique can only be used by those who have already fought on the battlefield or participated in training fights.

For a year now, Sora has been sparring regularly with Taiga, fighting with her on the sword. And Kiritsugu occasionally instructs him in hand-to-hand combat. Thanks to this he has gained some experience, which allows him to use Shadowfighting.

Constant training, pain, persistence, and Magic have all changed Sora. From a scrawny and weak boy, he transformed into a fighter capable of superhuman feats and a Mage capable of performing miracles.

He had a straight back, broad shoulders, and compact, well-trained muscles. His body was perfectly toned. You wouldn't even know he was ten years old.

But more important is the strength he has gained. Already at such a young age, Sora is stronger than almost anyone, reaching the limit of the average person in agility and strength, his movements are fast enough to blur in the eyes of the average person, and the strength of his punch allows him to break through walls.

There are three things that account for this child's inordinate strength. The first is a hell of a training regimen, which is simply impossible to maintain without the help of Magic.

The second is Synergy, which made him make the most of his potential. By continually improving his body, he used it to develop his superhuman traits. Absolutely all viruses and germs that were not useful to the body were eliminated from it. The body was devoid of defects. And the body worked like a perfect mechanism. As Sora learned more about magic, he began to gradually rebuild his body according to the Golden Ratio. But the biggest change in Sora's body was his brain and nervous system. The synergy improved his receptivity to any information by orders of magnitude, increased his reactions, his body control, his abilities to any intellectual activity, and his thinking speed.

By the way, using Magic from the Alchemy system [Thought Acceleration], the speed of calculating Sora is increased to the level of a quantum computer.

And the third is Prana or life energy; it impregnates every cell of the physical body, allowing the being to live, breathe, move, feed, reproduce. If Synergy acted as a "workaround" that tells the body what to do and how to do it, and then directs the whole process, then Prana bypassed all these stages and directly strengthened the body. With it, Sora's regeneration became several times stronger than usual, and it started faster, just like detoxification. His heart became much more resilient than usual, his lungs and kidneys and liver cleared their bodies better and faster. Muscles, tissues, organs, all became stronger, increasing the body's resilience and longevity.

Basically, he was reaching his limits for his childish body and breaking it, and so on and so forth.

But a good mage doesn't care about your physical conditioning, so Sora spent most of his time studying and practicing Magic.

In the beginning, Sora assumed that Kiritsugu would teach him Magic, but the Mage Killer turned out to be such a Mage, he was more of a spellcaster specializing in assassination. But thanks to Kiritsugu's long track record, his "magic" library is full of trophies from fallen enemies.

Among all the systems of Magic, Sora was unable to study the Magic of the Age of Gods due to the fact that humans lost it long ago and Witchcraft due to lack of time. And among the other systems he achieved the most success in Modern Thaumaturgy, Alchemy and the Runes.

The Modern Thaumaturgy system includes any Magic to be used with Magical Chains. Sora found three Magics most useful: Curse, Healing, Flow, and Transfer of Power.

With Healing everything is clear, it is Magic whose purpose is to heal damaged human tissues, and since Sora was well versed in medicine and skillfully used Prana, this Magic came easily to him.

Among the Curses he learned [Geis], a magical contract that forms a curse over a target that imposes a mystical restriction on the action with the consent of both parties. It is one of the most terrible curses, but human imagination knows no bounds and an even more horrible variation [Geiss], [Self-Geiss Scroll], has been invented. This curse directly binds the Magic Emblem of the target, meaning that even after death the curse will bind the soul of the deceased and be passed on to future generations through the Emblem. In addition, in theory, this curse cannot be broken.

Flow and Transfer of Forces - this Magic of creating magical disposable tools - consumables, with the help of this Magic you can make a good, such business. The Magic itself has to do with the transfer of energy or information from one object to another. Magical energy cannot flow freely outside the body because it dissipates immediately, so it is usually only used for spells before it disappears. Another way to use magical energy, is to store it inside objects, allowing them to be endowed with magical properties. Talismans, amulets, gems, and other magical consumables are all created with Flow Magic and Force Transfer.

Alchemy is the eternal symbol which is the Philosopher's Stone. Alchemy can be divided into two types: the alchemy practiced in the Egyptian Atlas and the alchemy practiced in the Western Clock Tower and the Prague Association, which I call "Modern Alchemy.

Modern Alchemy deals with the "transformation of matter" and in doing so not only minerals, but also states of matter such as liquid or gas, or even a conceptual form that does not exist in this world-all of these are within the reach of alchemy. In this Modern Alchemy, Sora has learned one Magic, [Displacement], but this Magic has become the strongest in his hands.

[Displacement] is probably the strongest Magic in Sora's arsenal. Changing the target of the Magic, physically or conceptually to something close to it, is a common Displacement Magic. In short, it is the use of Mana to physically and conceptually change the target. But in the process of moving, there is bound to be degradation of the target. For example, if a spoon is constantly replaced by a fork, and a fork by a spoon, its shape will become more and more like an ambiguous spatula, and eventually it will turn into a warped metal rod. But Sora possesses Ether, this element itself is incapable of materializing, but it doesn't need to. Its true manifestation, is the "Amplification" of Magic, by means of increasing its reality. Because of this, Magic Displacement of Sora, allows you to change objects perfectly precisely and without degradation, and in some cases to change Magic itself.

In Atlas Alchemy it's about the "transformation of events", which is the ultimate goal of Atlas Alchemists, they are not interested in the transmutation of Elements, as they consider the simple "transformation of matter" to be nothing more than a primitive art, far from their ideals. The main spells of the Alchemists of Atlas are [Thought Acceleration] and [Memory Separation]. Both of these spells are very difficult to obtain without a connection to Atlas. But luck was on Sora's side and one of Kiritsugu's trophies was the [Thought Acceleration] spell - as its name implies, this Magic speeds up thinking, and in symbiosis with Sora's incredible abilities, his thought speed is insane.

If you ask a modern Wizard what he thinks about the Runes, he will answer something about old timers, uselessness, and Odin. From this we conclude that the Runes are an unpopular system of Magic in the modern Lunar World. Modern Runes have lost the power of their predecessors. The Old Runes are almost all lost, and those that remain are closed behind seven seals. And of the Primordial Runes, whose power is comparable to True Magic, it is not even worth talking about. The Runes used by Odin himself are lost in the flow of time.

The bottom line is that modern Mages are stupid. After all, you can use the Runes to defeat enemies who outnumber you in strength. The main disadvantage of any type of Rune is the time it takes to engrave a Rune. But once the Runes are ready, it's enough to let some magical energy flow through them, and a single-action spell will be released. The greatest advantage of the Runes is the speed of activation, which is so fast that the time between the activation of the spell and its completion is vanishingly short.

Sora uses Runes to strengthen and build magical barriers, which is a specialty of Modern Runes. And also for enchanting equipment and creating magical, disposable weapons, whose destructive power was many times greater than that of Sora.

The Blessed Sacrament is the most widespread and at the same time the most guarded. As the Magic that allows one to "touch" God, any clergyman fanatically guards its Mysteries. The only thing Sora has been able to learn is [the Sacrament of Baptism], a simple ritual that can exorcise demons and send ghosts back to the world of the dead. He has weak physical interference abilities, but his power suppresses spiritual bodies.

In addition to the above, Sora, like any other good Mage, knows [Memory Manipulation], which allows to change a person's memories and [Joint Perception], which allows the Mage to process sensory data (sight, hearing, etc.) of the creature with which he has a connection of Magical Energy. For example, with a familiar or homunculus.

And of course the Kabbalah. Even in the very beginning, Sora wanted to create Magic that allowed him to systematize data about anything. Using Numerology and the Eye of Knowledge, Sora created Magic that allows the user to convert information into Magical data that can be stored, allowing the user to access previously stored information such as other types of Magic.

Because of its "Eye of Knowledge," this Magic is incredibly effective at fully analyzing anything, allowing you to skip the most difficult and time-consuming stage - "searching" for data. By systematizing the received data according to certain criteria and at the end displaying the result as a translucent screen - this Magic is called [Archive].

During his three years of training in Magic, Sora discovered a whole new world. Through constant experimentation and development, he never stood still. For example, one day during another magical training session, he learned that he can control time in his Domain, namely to speed up or slow down time three times in relation to the real world, of course, the ratio is small, but it will increase as he gets stronger. Or another discovery is the ability to grow plants in the Domain and their subsequent "magification," the acquisition of incredible taste or nutritional value.

Of course, Lucy couldn't resist and decided to make a sprout of "paradise" weed, did he ask permission? No. Does he consider Sora's Domain his backyard? Yes.

The sun's disk is getting brighter and brighter, rising higher and higher, sending out its warm rays in all directions. Here is a full circle, and it pains me to look at it. And in a few moments the sun seemed to come off the ground and float in the blue sky, filling all life with power and energy. At last a new day had come.

Drops of sweat dripped down Sora's face. When he finished his workout, he was unusually thoughtful.

"The old man hasn't been himself lately. Constantly frowning and brooding. And the melancholy and sadness in his eyes is just bursting out. In addition, last night, he was polishing his equipment, as if preparing for a new mission. That's not good." - Sora worried.

Sora has two people in this world whose suffering and sadness it pains him to see - Kiritsugu and Taiga. And seeing one of them in this state, Sora will not stand still, even if Kiritsugu, does not like it.

After making his decision, Sora nodded and turned to leave the dojo. As he walked, he muttered - Archive.
