Chapter 9: CHAPTER 9 - MAKE ME FEEL

"The results of the two blue stripes test came. I wanted to marry Emily but Emily told me to continue studying while she quit and chose another path."

"Bastard." Elena snorted.

"Who?"

"Of course you are. Who else?"

"I'm still paying for Emily and Brielle,"

"Your daughter?" asked Elena.

Cameron nodded his head. "At least I'm responsible and not running," Cameron sighed.

"So what kind of relationship did you have with that woman?"

"That woman has a name, Elena." Cameron seemed to object when Elena repeatedly used the third pronoun on Emily.

"Hmm... Emily. What are you doing? Raising children together even without status?"

"Emily and I both agreed to let each other go. Emily can have any relationship she wants with anyone and so can I."

Elena chuckled and closed her eyes. Leaning on the back of her chair. She tried her best to relax and think logically about everything she heard.

"Then you should be able to accept that Emily chooses another man to marry, right?"

"No. I'm going to marry her. This relationship is only temporary," Cameron said.

"What are you thinking, anyway? I really don't understand what you're thinking. You dumped her, Cam!"

"I'm responsible, Elena. I saved money to send Brielle to school even until she went to college. Everything's safe. I always come home on big celebrations. Then I ..." Cameron suddenly remembered that he hadn't been home in two years. Chicago for being too busy with work. He was enjoying too much of his time as a guy spending time skying with Brielle and Emily without even seeing them.

"Bingo!" Elena snapped her fingers. "You're guilty, Cam. It's all clear in the expression on your face."

"I have to keep seeing her and you have to keep coming."

"Okay, fine. But like I said just now I can't go to Chicago next week,"

Cameron had a look of disbelief on his face when Elena said that. He knew full well that Elena's schedule was almost as busy as his, and the schedules of all of her trials were almost the same as his schedule.

With his eyebrows raised high Cameron quickly grabbed Elena's cell phone which was lying on the table. "The code?"

Elena stared at Cameron savagely. She deliberately covered her mouth and pretended not to hear.

Not to be outdone, Cameron just rolled his eyes and typed in some numbers. Luckily he succeeded in one guess.

Smart bastard.

"Jesus, your shoe number and year of birth?" Cameron said mockingly. "You should have entered a more serious security number."

"That's very serious already," snorted Elena irritably. How could this man in front of her think of a combination that most people would never think of. Besides that, why Cameron knows all the details about him. Apart from the intruder, now Elena would label him as the stalker.

Elena noticed Cameron was looking at the calendar then a second later Cameron frowned. "You don't have a court schedule. There's only one client consultation and the rest are things your partner can sort out."

Why is this bastard so quick to jump to conclusions?

"I don't want anyone to take my place, Cam."

If Elena was changing tactics to buy time, then Cameron would be doing the exact same thing.

"You were born in Chicago, raised in that beautiful city. Don't you miss that place?"

"Definitely not Cameron. You already know exactly what answer I'm going to give you," said Elena.

Cameron's jaw cracked.

"You didn't forget our agreement? The deal."

"I remember but I won't let you take advantage of me," said Elena coldly. She felt his eyes heat up but She didn't understand why it happened after she tried to hold it all in.

Cameron stared back at Elena for a moment, then he lowered his chin and took a deep breath.

"I told you that I would back down if you managed to get Emily back to me."

"You suck, Cam!" Elena suddenly burst into tears. Dropped a lot of tears that made Cameron shocked half to death. How could this stone-hearted woman suddenly cry? In front of him too.

"Damn you! Crazy bastard!" Elena kept cursing Cameron with all her might. "I thought I'd be fine after saying I agreed. But the more I see you talking about Emily and Chicago so affectionately, the more I start to feel that pain than usual! You jerk, Cam!" Elena shouted loudly. She pulled out a few sheets of tissue and blew her nose loudly. Don't care about Cameron who is now confused in front of her.

Cameron wanted to go over to Elena to just hug and let the woman cry in his arms. But as Elena had made it clear to her, the two of them had never been close. They are just rivals who always think of each other as their toughest competitors.

"What are you looking at! Are you pitying me?" Elena asked annoyed. Remnants of tears still glittered on her cheeks.

"What did I see?" Cameron asked back.

"My Snot!" snapped Elena annoyed. She almost threw the used tissue roll at Cameron when she said it.

No one understands Elena's true heart. She had painstakingly buried it all together and now someone knew it. Unfortunately this person is someone she hates. A rival who could never let her work in peace. A rival who would never be satisfied if she got the same record as him.

"If you betray me I will really cut your dick!"

"Didn't you just say you would only sue me?" Cameron answered.

"I changed my mind!" Elena replied harshly. "I think our conversation is over, so you can go home."

"How about we discuss something before I go home?"

Elena glared. "Go home before I stuff all this in your mouth."

Cameron almost laughed. "All right. All right. Take care of yourself, you have to take care of your health until we meet Emily."

"Fuck you, Cam."

Sometimes some decisions hit you like a lightning strike. The brilliance that we have suddenly disappears due to the vibration of the strike.

Crazy thoughts led to regret and everything churned at the edges of Elena's mind. It heats up slowly then finally boils to the surface.

It was already ten o'clock at night. Elena was still thinking about all the things that hit her today. Everything happened exactly on the same day, without any significant breaks and starting to frustrate her.

Elena took her cell phone. She searched for George's number which she had saved in her contacts this afternoon. Considering whether or not she should call someone to talk and hope it can lighten the load of frustration she has or not.

Summer barked for attention as Elena stared at her phone screen.

"You were quiet when Cameron came in and now you're barking spoiled," said Elena. "I'm not in the mood to play." Elena scratched behind Summer's ear and forgot her intention to contact George.

Then suddenly someone knocked on the door again. Makes Elena have to go back across the living room to open it.

"Yes?"

Then a warm kiss landed on his cheek. "Good evening, Elena." And the man turned away from him. Elena gaped, unable to believe what she got.
