Chapter 8: Damien vs the Titan bear 2
"H-How bad is it?" Damien asked Nyrer telepathicaly, trying his hardest to hold in his screams of pain clawing at his throat, so as to prevent more blood loss.
[Hp– 3/25]
[Faith– 30/35]
"4 fractured ribs, 2 shattered ribs, 2 ribs punctured your lungs, dislocated shoulder, shattered wrist, dislocated elbow and heavy bleeding on your arms and torso." Nyrer replied to Damien with a solemn voice.
Damien glanced at the damaged part of his body or what was left of it, blood and displaced flesh could be found all over, bleeding from every point, the pain could make you jump of a bridge to feel the sweet relief of death, it was unbearable.
"Use... [Hp restoration]." Damien said coughing out blood between words. After uttering those words, Damien could feel Faith leaving his Leviar and flowing into the injured part of his body repairing his muscles, closing wounds and reattaching his bones.
The injuries might be gone but the faint presence of the pain still remained, Damien rose to his feet leaning on the tree behind him, as he quickly activated [Heightened sense— F5 ], afraid of having to suffer from the same blow he recieved earlier.
"Your left!" Nyrer yelled in time for Damien to sidestep a direct slash aiming for his torso, the bears claws struck the ground with the weight of an ox chattering the ground beneath them.
Damien could barely see the bear's attack, it was only thanks to the combined effort of both Nyrer soul sense and his heightened senses that he was narrowly able to avoid the deadly strike.
Damien quickly searched for his sword that had left his arm during the previous blow, turning his head from left to right he soon found the blade laying adjacent to his current position, underneath a tree.
He bolted for the blade, reaching it before the bear's following strike which was aimed at his head could reach him, he jumped grabbing the branch of the tree above him before lunging for the ground trying to put some distance between him and the bear, long enough to understand why it was so bloody fast.
The speed and overall power behind the bear's attacks had increased significantly its speed was on another level compared to a couple minutes ago, he could barely even see the bear's massive claws.
Damien stared at the bear, as it slowly paced from left to right, its glowing purple eyes fixed on Damien's body or more accurately, his neck. Damien's eyes traced the bear's large body, from the thick jet black fur, to the massive head. His eyes followed the its body noticing the very faint but obviously glowing purple stripes on the bear's fur. Wondering when the stripes on the bear had began to glow, he traced the purple stripes all the way to the rear legs of the bear, which had started lighting up brighter than the other stripes, then suddenly,
"Incoming!" Nyrer warned,
A burst of air erupted behind the bear's rear legs propelling him towards Damien at a terrifying speed.
Damien smiled at the thought of finally understanding where the speed was coming from, now that he knew when the bear would attack Damien's confidence had increased.
Sadly, knowing when the bear would attack and actually defending against it, were two different things all together.
The bear arrived before Damien in the blink of an eye, its paw raised high, aiming for an instantaneous kill, but Damien was quick to react raising his blade early enough to defend the blow successfully.
The force sent Damien flying back, he quickly caught himself as he dug his feet into the ground his arms going numb from the impact, he raised his head to face the bear, unfortunately, that was all the time the bear needed to appear right in front of him, sending a powerful blow with its massive paws aiming towards Damien's unguarded torso.
BOOOM!!!!
The blow raised Damien of his feet knocking the air out of his lungs, the aftershock of the blow sent Damien scrubbing the ground, his body being dragged on the ground like a rag doll, before making a tremendous collision with a tree, cracking some ribs due to the impact.
[HP-Regenerate 5F ] Damien said, gasping for air trying to get his bearings. His body quickly mended itself, healing him quickly but leaving some of the lingering pain.
"How the fuck! does he move so fast?" Damien cried turning to his companion for answers.
"Elemental augmentation.' Nyrer said matter of factly,
"Explain"
"It's when you use your Faith to pull a specific elemental particle in the air towards your leviar where your Faith is held, and then it processes it and sends it to different parts of your body, boosting them based on the properties of the Elemental particle selected, affecting them as follows; AIR– speed and force, EARTH– strength and defence, FIRE– speed and power, WATER– fluidity and force, LIGHT– energy, faith and regeneration ability, DARKNESS– absorption and destruction."
"In this case, the bear uses the Air particles in the air to increase its speed and which in turn increases the force and power of the bear's blows." Nyrer replied.
"A specific element– oh... like the 'Burning Body'." Damien said, staring at the bear studying its movements.
"I can't see it coming, and I'm always too slow to react, it doesn't seem like the bear can use it continuously though, so I can either attack it now or find a way to comprehend 'Burning Body'." Damien said to Nyrer.
"It isn't particularly hard. You know the feeling you get when you use Divine flames, it's similar but instead of using it to augment your blade, you can use it to augment your body instead." Nyrer advised, their conversation only lasted for about half a second in Damien's head, allowing him to prepare against the bear's incoming attack.
This time, Damien jumped back dodging a horrifying strike that destroyed the ground he was previously in, with his blade in hand, Damien prepared to counter. He infused his blade with Faith, drawing all the deviant flame particles in the world energy, the blade combusted an ominous black, releasing a faint buzzing sound and then, he uttered in a low hum,
"Divine Flames"
The space around the blade bent and reshaped, trying to accommodate the new overwhelmingly powerful flames.
The flames burnt space itself, as it shot its way towards the bear at point blank range, hitting it right in the torso. Blood came gushing out of the bear, a huge gape of blood and flesh appeared on the bear's torso, it released a roar of dread and despair as it turned to face Damien.
Damien took an odd stance, his right leg went behind him as he returned the blade to its scabbard, his left hand hovering above the hilt of the blade as his right hand held the scabbard firmly in place.
"That should give me some time" one of the effects of Damien's 'Divine Flames' is that it has the ability to slow down healing attempts a great deal, so he could spend some time trying to comrehend 'Burning Body' while the bear would have to wait till the flames have died out before it could heal.
Augmentation uses deviant elemental particles in the air and leads it to the leviar were it is processed, and sent to body parts, the theory behind it was simple but it was actually way more complex than that. The leviar tends to naturally use faith to pull in world energy with all its impurities.
World energy is the manifestation of all the elements in nature, including impurities like demonic energy and second energy. The leviar uses its faith to filter out the impurities and encode instructions needed to activate a skill, so trying to pull only one elemental particle in the world energy and then filtering it before sending it to the leviar for further refining and then later manually infusing your will into it, all in all it is extremely difficult.
"Use the lingering knowledge from Divine Flames, you practiced it till it was second nature to you. Lead your faith out of your leviar and hold onto the flame particles." Nyrer said.
Damien did as Nyrer had instructed him, he led his faith out of his leviar which is akin to taking a dump with a clogged anus.
Once Damien had led his faith out of his leviar, Damien's eyes lit up with a golden hue, almost as though his eyes were ablaze with golden flames.
Suddenly, the light merged with his pupils turning them completely gold, soon after, it began to shrink and shrink until it formed a reverse symbol 'ą' in the centre of his black pupils.
Damien completely oblivious to the change that was occuring, could only pay attention to the marvelous sight before him, he could see all the world energy lingering around every little fragment of life, he saw the world in a possible 4 dimension. Never had he ever seen something like this, he could see the Bear in the distance and the wind particles residing inside and outside its body, and the black flames that slowed down its healing process, he could see the golden light surrounding himself representing the faith that had left his body.
Not wanting to waste time, Damien quickly held unto his faith and with surgical precision, he selected the flame particles in the air. Holding his breath and not wanting to have a do over, he pulled the flame particles into his body and lead them with his faith.
Immediately, Damien had learned something that could give him an edge, the bear ran out of wind particles so it needed to attempt what Damien had just done in order to refill on wind particles. Damien wondered if he could find a way to supply his leviar with continuously filtered flame particles, then maybe he would be able to use 'Burning Body' continuously without an immediate refill.
Damien used his faith to reach out for the flame particles lingering in the air around him, he drew it towards his leviar, attempting to create a channel leading to his leviar, the stress it put his body and leviar under was like trying to push a house uphill, he tried and tried but to no avail, until he saw the flames on the bear die out allowing it to heal quicker than before.
All these took place in the span of a couple of seconds. Due to Damien's pure faith, he is able to quickly manipulate his faith faster than a beast with an impure faith and leviar, hence, the short trial time.
Damien quickly pulled the lingering flame particles in the air to his leviar turning it into Flames-faith and began to process and encode his knowledge of the skills requirements into it. This was one of the hardest parts of executing a skill, if the person attempting the skill doesn't completely comprehend the skill, or mixes up the input of faith, the skill could be poorly executed or even fail before the skill is fully activated.
The black flames that lingered on the torso of the bear had just died out, returning to the Titan bear it's natural regeneration ability, with its torso healing at a visible speed the bear began to draw in air particles with his Faith, augmenting his body with Airs–faith, once it was done, it bolted towards Damien with neck breaking speed, appearing before Damien the very next second. With victory in sight, it prepared its claws to end him.
"Is it time for round 2 already?" Damien said looking at the approaching bear, his eyes glowing, as he uttered in a soft hum that made the bear freeze with fear.
"Burning Body"
