Chapter 51: Gathering Allies

**Big thanks to Luke Karls**

Arthor wasted no time and got right into it once all three were in the tent, "We've grown. Everyone is able to settle down in new settlement relieving the pressure that was on this village, which is good but it leaves us more open to attacks". "What?" Sigorn scrunched up his face as he couldn't understand what Arthor was going on about.

"We have the numbers", Sigorn gave a nod to that. "And it is due to our numbers that we have enjoyed victory", Sigorn continued to nod showing he understood. Seeing this Arthor continued, "but what is our greatest strength is also a major weakness".

"That weakness was not a concern in the past, because we were all together, moving as one unit. If any enemy clan wanted to attack us then they hand to contend with all of us. Now however our numbers have split, our people need food, spring has just began and we cannot ignore our source of food. Aside that the are a many no longer suited for battle."

"All this new settlements and villages being built up are a weakness our enemies will seek to exploit" "We can still place a sizeable number of fighters in each place, even if we can't do it for every settlement. The thought that their target may have people ready for them would keep them at bay", Freya pipped up at that moment making her thoughts known.

"Aye you would be right" Arthor flashed her a grin, "But they aren't going to come at us on their own. Our actions would be seen as a threat to everyone and their attitude towards us was made very clear through the people they sent over".

"I hate to say it but with the way things are going war seems very likely"

"Alright, but why call me". Sigorn asked his tone heavy as he understood the situation they were in.

"Before I... met you, you had a destination did you not?" Arthor smirked, "I learnt from my mother that on Skagos the free folk came together during the winter to protect themselves from the Skagossi raiders."

"They would remain as such until the spring"

"Spring has already arrived they would have split up once more by now" Sigorn spoke up but Arthor merely smiled at him. "Normally you would be absolutely right, but you are ignoring one key thing. They are calling this spring the bloody spring, now who would split up in these uncertain times."

"You mean to bring the other Free folk under you, to have them kneel", the anger in Freya's tone was clear to all once she mentioned the last bit. Arthor took in her expression before he turned to take in Sigorn's expressions as well.

"When I forced you to bend the knee, I did so for my selfish needs yes I will not deny that. This however is different, in your home on the mainland. The True North, tribes have gathered under people before have they not?"

There was a moment of silence before words departed Sigorn's lips, "aye Kings beyond the wall. But ye are no king beyond the wall."

"Fair enough", Arthor gave a nod showing he agreed, "But I am offering the free folk a chance to live. Once this war begins no one can avoid it anymore, with me I impose no stupid restrictions, you are free to live your life how you so please, of course certain actions have consequences. However do you think those lords would accept that... I am offering them an opportunity, and I would be glad if you made them aware".

"You want us to find them?"

"Who better for the task than one of the free folk themselves" Sigorn and Freya exchanged a look, "I swear we will offer your terms to the others but we know not if they'll agree" Sigorn finally spoke out.

"Great! things you need will be packed you leave tomorrow." With a nod Sigorn was the first to step out with Freya following after him once she and Arthor shared a look.

"You certain that will work? That Sigorn will not betray you?" Ronell entered the tent after the two had left, Spakr resting on his shoulder. "Far north, Mainland, Skagos, in the end we are all northerners and certain things cut across... such as oaths" Arthor sat and began to polish his axe.

"And even if the turn on me, we would know where they are, allowing us to wipe them all out before they can raise their blades", Arthor looked away from his axe to his brother with a wolfish grin.
