Chapter 4: Bonded with Punishment

"Am I getting punished on my first day of school? WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL!", Orla thought as she tried to stop herself from crying.

They both walked out of their classroom and stood there beside their classroom door.

"She's just mad. We didn't do anything she sent us out for no reason.", said Orla's punishment partner trying to comfort her as best as he could.

"It still does not make it not humiliating, and it's my first day.", replied Orla, her voice cracking.

"Well I've been punished a lot of times before for absolutely no reason and I refuse to feel humiliated for that. I didn't do anything, ANYTHING. She is the one who should be humiliated. Not us.", he said.

"What about the fact that her first impression of me was kinda really bad?", she asked.

"Oh, she's not even gonna remember this. Trust me she's got a bad memory.", he replied.

"Okay.", Orla uttered.

A few moments of awkward silence prevailed before the honey-eyed guy introduced himself.

"I'm Alistair.", he said with a grin on his face. "Orla right?"

"Yeah.", Orla replied.

"Did anybody tell you that you look like a Cork girl?", Alistair asked.

"Cork? The city? What does a Cork girl even look like?", Orla inquired back.

"I don't know fancy? You just got that Cork vibe man.", he said.

"Really? I actually used to live in Cork.", Orla said surprised.

"What? Why would you come to Luminaville from Cork? People usually do the opposite.", Alistair questioned.

"Luminaville is my home. Long ago I used to live here and I made a lot of fond memories with my parents.", Orla said.

"So you couldn't make fond memories in Cork?", Alistair queried.

"It was pretty fun while my parents were there for us. But how could I possibly live in a city where my parents died.", murmured Orla.

"You must have been really happy when your parents were here.", Alistair said with a soft, comforting smile, "You want to live with the happy memories and leave the ugly ones behind. That's why you're here aren't you?"

"Yes.", Orla replied, smiling.

She loved how Alistair was different from the rest. Whenever she shared her parent's stories to someone they would get sad and seemed to pity her. They would make her feel terrible for her parent's death like her PTSD wasn't enough. But Alistair did not get awkward or did not pity her for her parent's passing, instead, he focused on the good part, which made her feel a lot better.

"When did you move to Luminaville?", Alistair interrogated.

"When I was seven.", Orla answered.

"When you were seven? Didn't see you around here." Alistair said, shocked.

"I couldn't really do normal people activities because of my PTSD. I was even homeschooled because of it."

" O so this is your very first day of school. So I would be your very first school friend." Alistair claimed.

"First friend ever actually." Orla corrected.

"That is rad bro. You have to treat me for lunch for being your very first school friend.", Alistair demanded, grinning again.

Orla couldn't help but notice how captivating his smile was. His sparkly white teeth looked even whiter as they contrasted well with his dark skin. His hair was also very light blonde, almost white, matching his eyelashes and eyebrows. But nothing was more captivating than those big, glimmering honey eyes. Orla had to admit Alistair was not only nice and charming but also very good-looking.

"Hey guys, meet Orla.", Alistair announced to his friends.

"That's the new lassie innit?", asked a white guy with long dark brown hair, and a slight prickly beard and stache. "I'm Ronan.", he introduced smiling.

"Your teal bangs look so cool Orla. I've been meaning to talk to you all day but didn't end up approaching you sorry. I'm Sydney."

"I love the red hair, and your freckles are literally so cute.", she praised back.

"All natural.", she said thankfully.

Lunch was going so well. She made three friends. She never wanted to leave school.

"Orla, do you wanna study together at Seto Taisho? I'll make you catch up to our syllabus.", asked Sydney.

"Sure.", said Orla noting her number down on Sydney's palm. "Text me the time and address.", she instructed.

On the way home, she felt so incredible. For once she felt truly happy and excited about something. She thought about Sydney, Ronan, and how amazing and nice they were, but mostly, about Alistair, how nice she was to him, how comforting he was and how handsome he looked. He seemed perfect. Her first friend is perfect.
