Chapter 4: A Promise
Daven POV
Standing in front of me right now are two jealous nobles
Noble 1: "Hey isn't that going to far?"
Noble 2: "We were supposed to be the stars of tonight, but him and that other filthy commoner stole all the spot light! I'll make him pay and burn that grimoire to ash!"
Noble 1: "Wait."
The jealous noble then then casts a fire spell at me.
'What weak magic' I stare at the spell coming towards me with uninterested expression but before I could act a wind spell incases me and protects me. I look behind me and see Yuno standing there.
Me: "Thanks Yuno, but you know I didn't need the help."
Yuno ignored my comment and just continued looking at the nobles.
Noble 2: He turns his head to face his partner, "Hey do something right now!"
But before the other noble could respond they were surrounded and hit by chains. Both the nobles screamed out in pain.
?: "Hahaha, I was waiting for a moment like this too think I could get both 4 leaf grimoires right now, hahah!"
Yuno: "Who are you? What do you want?"
Revchi: "I was once a magic knight named Revchi but I was kicked out. Now I'm just a petty thief. I'll be taking both your grimoires."
As soon as his little introduction was over Yuno and I were surrounded by chains.
'Damn I couldn't react at all, am I really that weak. I have to become stronger.' I thought while gritting my teeth.
Yuno: "Why bother taking them, you know there's no point."
Revchi: "I know but there are plenty of black market collectors that would pay a small fortune for these. Your legends are over before it even began."
I grit my teeth and start channeling my magic power but then I hear Asta and my attention is drawn to him.
Asta: "Hold it. Hey creep what's your deal! That's Yuno's and Daven's grimoires you got! You dirty theif! Give them back!!"
Revchi just laughed at him and prepared a spell in response.
Yuno and I: "Asta run!"
Asta: "From a waste of space like him, not a chance in hell!"
Asta charged at Revchi, dodging his attacks in the process. Asta however wasn't able to escape them all and got chained up by his magic and attacked repeatedly. His body was thrown into a wall, creating a crater.
Revchi: "You see boy it's no use. You have no magic power at all, that's why you didn't get a grimoire and you never will!" Said while laughing hysterically.
'Damn it, he's gonna get himself killed. This idiot.' I won't stand by and watch my friend get killed but before I can channel my magic Yuno stepped in.
Yuno: "Hey who are you calling a loser! Asta is no loser, he's my rival!"
Me: "He's right, Asta isn't a loser, when he gets knocked down he stands right back up."
I look over too at Asta I can tell his whole mood has changed. He seems more confident, his gaze more determined. 'That's right, that's the Asta I remember.' A certain memory flashed into my head.
——Flashback——
3rd Person POV
10 years ago
Yuno: "That's mine give it back!" He shouted
Daven: "That's his give it back, right now!"
Drunk man: "Shut up brat. Ohhh, you have a nice earring let me have it."
Daven: "No it's mine."
Daven saw the man approaching him so he decided to fight back. He ran forward preparing to punch the man. But before he could even do anything he was kicked and thrown to the ground rolling away.
Drunk man: "Stupid kid you'll never win just hand it over."
Daven stayed on the ground, was going to give up, he knew he couldn't win. I mean a 5 year old kid beat a 30 year old man, impossible. Then an ashy grey haired kid ran past him.
Asta: "OHHH YEAH, YOU JERK STOP HURTING THEM. GIVE YUNO HIS STUFF BACK!"
Asta too got flung away, but instead he got back up. Then he got hit again, and again, and again. No matter how many times he got hit, he got back up.
Drunk man: "Just stay down so I won't have to hurt you."
Asta: "No I'll never give up!"
Daven: 'Why doesn't he stay down, why does he keep getting back up. How does he keep getting back up.'
The drunk man after a while finally let go of Yuno's pendent and walked away. But Asta was left in a bloody mess.
Devan & Yuno: "Are you okay?" They shouted as they ran toward him.
Yuno: "This is all my fault, I'm sorry."
Asta: "This is nothing. Because one day I'll become Wizard King… and protect you guys and everybody else. I'm gonna make everybody happier.. and then I'm gonna prove to everyone… that even if your poor… or an orphan you can still become the Wizard King."
Yuno: "I'll become strong and protect everyone else. I'll become the Wizard King!"
Devan: 'Wizard king, huh. No I don't want that I want to protect everyone and that's it.'

——End Flashback——
Daven POV
Revchi backed away from Asta in fear.
Asta: "I'm going to destroy this guy!"
As soon as he said that a dark red aura appeared in front of him. His very own grimoire. The shadow behind took shape into a creature I've never seen before. The grimoire opened and out appeared a rusty black sword.
Yuno: "I knew it, how could you not be chosen."
Revchi: "What is that your magic. B- but I checked you didn't have any, so how!? You little shit, how dare you!" He said, as he stammered as he backed away and used his magic too shoot chains at Asta.
Asta swung his sword a cut through Revchi's magic. Then charged forward.
Asta: "MY MAGIC IS NEVER GIVING UP! I WILL BECOME WIZARD KING!"
Asta swung his sword and sent Revchi flying into the wall behind him. I was impressed by his physical strength.
Yuno & Daven: "Asta you saved us, once again. We will repay it one day."
Yuno walks coward past Asta and turns to him.
Yuno: "Asta do you remember our promise?"
Asta: "I thought you forgot." Asta walks forward and turns to Yuno.
Asta & Yuno: "Let's see who can become the Wizard King!"
Me: "Hey guys don't forgot about me!" I walked forward and reaches out to fist bump them.
Asta: "You want to become Wizard King?"
Daven: "No that's too much work but, I still want to become the strongest and protect everybody to make them happy! So in some way I'm your rival as well."
