Chapter 3: Chapter Three- The Cultivation World

On planet Crimson Petal, there was a world beyond the mortal world. This was known as the cultivation world. This world was full of beings that ordinary humans could only describe in far-fetched fairy tales. These beings broke through the limitations of the mortal realm. They were able to fly, disappear and reappear many kilometers away and even use magic. They were known as cultivators.

There were many mysterious places and secrets in the cultivation world. At this moment, some of the places shrouded in the most secrets were acting up.

There was a mountain that seemed to pierce open the skies and on top of it was a hut. Within was an overweight old man with wrinkles all over his face and all white hair. He was laying in bed munching away on the endless supply of food in his hut. Suddenly, he ceased eating and looked in a certain direction with blank eyes. He mumbled something to himself along the lines of "Elder brother's Way of Ties…He called it the Dao of Karma, right?" He started shedding tears and rapidly munched faster and faster due to excitement.

There was a hole leading down many miles down into the planet. At the very bottom, you could see a figure meditating, drenched in sweat. Through the heat and smoke, you could see that the figure had an exceptionally muscular frame. He opened his eyes and looked in a direction where he only saw rocks and magma. After a while, he closed his eyes and started meditating again with a grin on his face.

Similarly in another far corner of the world, was an ancient-looking house. It wasn't very big, but it was in very bad shape; there were shingles broken and hanging off the roof and walls; the windows were mostly shattered; there were cracks on almost every wall. Despite this, the house didn't seem dirty. There were no spider webs or visible stains anywhere. Beautiful plants surrounded the house, making it a contrast to look at. Inside the house was a woman with long black hair. She seemed as old as eternity itself, and maybe even was. She seemed to be lost in her memories, beside her was a man sitting next to her pouring her tea. That was when they both looked at each other and then at a wall behind them, not necessarily the wall but something beyond the wall. They both exchanged glances again. The woman muttered, "This Demonic Qi can only belong to him… Stupid kid, took him long enough."

Hearing this the man laughed and poured himself a cup of tea. They both went back to talking softly and drinking tea in their shabby old house.

Something very much the same happened in other corners of the world. However, there was one noticeable occurrence that happened far, far away from planet Crimson Petal. A youth seemingly in her early twenties was flying at an unimaginable speed when she abruptly stopped and turned to face something or maybe someone. The places were separated by an indescribable distance but she could see with no problem whatsoever. She smiled and headed back in the direction she was flying.

All these mysterious figures were actually looking at the same place. Outside a gate in a small city on the outskirts of the country of Xinye. There was a boy and a guard, but then in a blink of an eye the guard had disappeared and the boy grew taller than he was a second ago. These events could never be noticed by most cultivators, but these figures were beyond the ordinary cultivators.

After a few seconds, the boy went inside the gate and entered the building. Even he seemed to know nothing about the guard and what just happened. The boy walked through the door that led to the examination chamber. There were tables arranged in a very systematic order, each with a student concentrating on sheets of paper. Looking anywhere else except your table was strictly prohibited and would result in instant disqualification from the exam. However, when the boy walked in the students looked at him with shocked eyes. It was as if they had seen a monster.

This was most likely because the boy seemed several centimeters taller than most of the people who knew him would remember him as. The boy hadn't realized this either. He no longer looked like an average nine-year-old but rather a twelve-year-old. He actually had aged three years during the events with the guard.

The administrator spoke in a loud voice, "All students are to focus on exams; those who violate rules will be disqualified."

Then pointing at the boy, "You, how'd you get in? Well, why are you still standing? Find a table and start your exam. For being late and disturbing other students you will receive a thirty-minute penalty. Good luck."

While the boy was walking across, a short-haired girl whispered to him, "Wei Chao, what happened to you?"

Wei Chao didn't say anything but shrugged unnoticeably as a response. He found a seat and sat down. After organizing his materials he started working on the exam. He moved his brush swiftly across the paper. All the repetition from last night was coming to great use.

After about forty minutes students started to stand up and the supervisors would collect their papers. About seven minutes later Wei Chao got up as well. Other students had an hour and thirty minutes to work on the exam, but Wei Chao only had an hour to finish. After the supervisor collected his papers, he turned to walk out. As he was walking towards the door countless students who knew him were looking at him with awe. The Wei Chao they knew was now bigger than all of them. He had finished the exam before them as well, but this wasn't that big of a deal because Wei Chao was known to be good at his studies.

This was part of the reason the administrator allowed Wei Chao to take part in the exam despite being late. He also knew that Wei Chao lived far away, and his family had financial difficulties.

Wei Chao exited the building and holding his equipment he started running as fast as he could to his house. He wanted to get home fast so he could open his father's shop and make some sales. It was something he always looked forward to. He loved the look in his father's eyes when he would tell him about the sales he made.

He also kept recalling that his father would tell him more about his mother after he passed the exam. He was sure he had passed the exam. He was really looking forward to getting home fast.

While running, many people looked at him speeding past them. He was probably the fastest they had ever seen someone go. Wei Chao also wanted to ask his dad what he made for breakfast today as he still wasn't tired after sprinting for so long. After a few more minutes he started sweating. Instead of decreasing his speed, he kept sprinting. He wanted to see how long he could run this fast. The fatigue started to kick in and he was panting but continued to run. After a minute of exhaustion, which seemed to be an hour for Wei Chao he stopped and sat down against a pole to rest. His heart was beating rapidly and he was breathing heavily. He felt like he would pass out. Wei Chao thought he was an idiot for attempting something so stupid. When he felt like he was about to collapse, he felt something churn inside his body.

It was a silly feeling as if someone was tickling him from the inside. He wanted to laugh but in his condition, he could only squeeze his stomach and close his eyes. After a few seconds, he felt something weird. He opened his eyes but saw nothing. When he would inhale it would feel heavier, and when he would exhale it felt like he was getting rid of his tiredness. After a few minutes, the ticklish feeling in his body stopped. He also started breathing normally again. He was back in shape and started running again. He asked himself, "What exactly did father put in my breakfast?"

A while later he was at the house and went into his room. His father was still working at the nearby dairy stall: he would come back in the evening. Wei Chao put his equipment away and set up the furniture for the store. He opened the door and sat there, waiting for a customer.

He managed to sell a little stool by the time his father returned. Wei Chao proudly handed him the money and his father said with a warm voice, "Chao'er you can go buy something to eat with that. I don't want it."

Wei Chao looked puzzled, but then put the money in his pocket. Then his father noticed something and questioned, "Chao'er, what happened to you, you've grown bigger."
