Chapter 14: Chapter 14

Chapter 14

James gasped, appearing to have less endurance than Peter.

"You can't touch me not because I'm like an eel, but because I'm more like a dragon."

Parker smirked, "Fantastic like a dragon? Don't brag too much."

"It's a fact!" James shook his head, proudly stating, "Even though it's not some martial arts secret book bought from an old beggar, it's a potent set of tactics. It's called 'A Dance of the Thousands of Tigers.'"

Peter frowned, "A thousand tigers dance, isn't it supposed to be a dragon?"

"Details don't matter; the essence is the same." James waved his hand, brushing off any embarrassment.

James felt a bit exhilarated to defeat Spider-Man, especially since he hadn't even reached the standard of a Zodiac Knight candidate.

Though Peter wasn't utilizing his full body, the spider silk launcher wasn't worn, leaving room for improvement in power and speed.

Yet, James didn't employ his fire ability or don his armor.

All things considered, James had a slight edge.

The Dance of the Thousands of Tigers was a set of tactics performable without relying on the universe. It maximized the flexibility and coordination of the human body, achieving the effect of overcoming the strong with the weak and outnumbering the enemies in the limit.

Listening to James's explanation, Peter's eyes sparkled, "Can I learn this?"

James nodded, "Certainly."

Despite Peter's impressive speed and reflexes, his attack method leaned toward long-range swinging attacks due to the spider silk launcher.

Once someone got close, stripping Peter of the spider silk bonus, he'd struggle in close combat.

Learning a fighting skill could compensate for the shortcomings and transform him into a formidable hero adept at both close and ranged combat.

"Can I join too?"

The gym door creaked open a crack, and Thompson poked his head in, shouting.

James eyed his face, unashamed of eavesdropping on their conversation. However, Thompson, looking forward to something, suddenly felt deflated.

"Thompson, aren't you enlisting in the army? Nowadays, battles involve thermal weapons, tanks, planes, and missiles. Learning this won't be of much use; it's a waste of time."

Thompson leaned in, shutting the door with a backhand.

"Yours isn't all right either. Even though modern warfare is tech-savvy and diverse, it's still fundamentally a war among people. So learning a fighting skill is never a loss."

"And I aim to join the Marine Corps, but I want to be the man of the Marine Corps."

James turned to look at Parker. Parker wasn't particularly possessive, immediately shrugging that he had no objection.

James wouldn't teach Thompson the Dance of the Thousands of Tigers. The tactics couldn't be learned at will.

If it weren't for the Zodiac Knight case Universe directly pouring this into James's mind, he might've needed years of practice to grasp it.

That's why the Zodiac Knights didn't pass on this trick later. Given the time spent on martial arts practice in the past few years, it was more beneficial to train with the universe.

Before formal teaching, certain processes needed to be followed.

"I pledge by this body that everything I've learned will be used appropriately. I won't oppress the strong, won't bully the weak, won't humiliate the vulnerable, and won't harm each other. I'll strive to uphold justice, eliminate evil, and protect the Earth!"

Yes, taking an oath.

When James received the inheritance of the Zodiac Knight, the case Universe passively instilled in him the faith and will to protect the Earth.

Now, as he aimed to teach others what the Zodiac Knight case teaches, he wanted to persuade them to stand for justice.

An oath like this wasn't just a ritual; it could subtly strengthen one's faith.

Observing James's solemn demeanor, Peter and Thompson unconsciously grew serious, creating room for the term "guardian" in their hearts.

Their attitudes pleased James. As for the future, only time would tell.

"Since you both lack basic martial arts knowledge, I'll teach you some simple ones. Consider it a simplified version of basic teaching demonstration."

Afterward, James began demonstrating a set of martial arts routines. The movements were straightforward, suitable for untrained individuals to imitate.

Peter and Thompson performed better than Lexia had imagined.

Peter's enhanced observation ability, courtesy of the super spider gene, translated into impressive imitating skills.

Thompson, on the other hand, was a bit of a surprise.

Compared to Daniel Rand in "Iron Fist," who couldn't hold a candle, Thompson showed more promise. Even his movements weren't as embarrassing as those claimed to be from 'Kunlun.'

'Kunlun,' rooted in Chinese mythology, is one of the seven countries in Marvel that preserve martial arts, symbolizing the pinnacle of Marvel's cosmic martial arts.

After learning the basic routines, seeing the two catching on easily, James began teaching a more advanced version with increased difficulty, and the gap became apparent.

Peter managed to learn seven or eight moves, but Thompson found it challenging to grasp, considering he was an ordinary person.

After an afternoon of practice, Peter essentially mastered the advanced version. The only difference was some integration. Thompson also gained a good understanding, and the combat effectiveness of the two saw a noticeable increase.

After school, to celebrate the burgeoning friendship among the three, Thompson proposed treating them, and they headed to a bar to unwind.

Despite being underage for legal drinking, who could be that honest privately? With Thompson, a worldly man leading the way, the three headed straight to the bar, a place James and Peter wouldn't have dared to think about before.
