Chapter 5: Chapter 5

"So, you're back."

The woman said as she stood next to me, looking around the mountains as if examining them.

"Yeah, it's been too long."

I remarked while I was sitting down on a ledge, looking down as the clouds passed by.

"I can imagine-"

She muttered, taking a seat next to me and leaning back on her hands. The silence stood for a moment before she spoke up again.

"Are you going to break the contract? Now that you're no longer traveling the worlds?"

I thought for a moment. It would be a lie to say that I didn't think about it, but the contracts were too valuable... every one of them was a constant in my travels. Granted, I didn't summon them every new world, but I still summoned them occasionally. Like friends that you talked to once in a while.

"No, I'm not doing that, I just want everyone here since I'm kind of retiring."

I could see her turn toward me in the corner of my eye and stare for a few moments. It wasn't long before a chuckle escaped her lips that turned into full-blown, melodic laughter.

She clutched at her sides as she fell on her back, trying and failing to stop the laughter and I let out a few chuckles of my own.

"Dear lord! That was funny! But seriously, you wouldn't summon me if you were really retiring. unless you need... Company?"

She straightened up and leaned towards me with a sly smirk, her tone turning seductive. I chuckled and gave her a raised eyebrow, pointing at my body.

I was four years old for void's sake.

She gave me a once-over before scoffing.

"You can make yourself age faster, can you not?"

I rolled my eyes and leaned back, my back hitting solid rock as I stared up at the clear sky.

"It doesn't work like that. This time, I was born into a family of devils..."

She blinked and laid down, a hand holding her head up so she could stare at me with a curious look.

"...And?"

I took a deep breath and sighed.

"Politics."

She snorted, rolling to her right to stare at nothingness with me.

"And why did you summon me then?"

I dug into my pocket and took out the queen piece, holding it out to her. She took it, holding it up to her face to inspect it, and gave a derisive scoff.

"This is the single most idiotic thing I have seen... And is that a compulsion spell?"

Her voice turned sultry as her head turned toward me.

"You know you don't need this to make me do some... Things, right?"

I deadpanned at her and she sighed, going back to inspecting the piece again before frowning.

"A devil? So, these Devils turn other species into half-devils, limiting their potential and basically keeping them as loyal servants unless the one being turned is stronger than the one performing the ritual."

I hummed in acknowledgment and she sighed.

"I'm planning on taking over the devil world by taking the position of Satan from my brother in due time. After that, I want to protect the world until others realize that if I'm not messed with, I won't pose a problem... Then I will retire and enjoy the commodities of the modern world I missed so dearly."

I pulled myself up and stretched, working out the kinks in my body.

"I want you to act as my Queen Until I'm ready to take over the pantheon... or when I decide to do it. Still Haven't decided on that."

She chuckled and floated up, straightening herself in mid-air and taking a sitting position as she floated over the edge to stare right into my eyes.

"Very well, I, the spirit of the ice, cold, snow, and wind, Eira, shall aid you in this endeavor. It will be a pleasure to work with you again..."

She tilted her head, waiting for me to provide my name in this world and I chuckled.

"You never change, do you? It's Damian, Damian Gremory."

She beamed, holding out the queen piece to me.

I grabbed it, and magic circles appeared around my hand, sinking into the chess piece, destroying the unwanted spells, replacing them with my own, and turning the red queen into a pale blue.

___

"You're family seems nice."

Eira commented, sitting on my back. Her four-year-old body wasn't heavy, it neither made it harder nor easier.

"I guess, though my brother can be a bit overbearing sometimes."

I mumbled, not stopping my exercise. For me to use my weapon, which was still in another world, needed arm strength.

She hummed in thought, the cold intensifying around me a second later.

I grunted slightly, not stopping the workout.

"When will we get the others?"

She lay on top of me now, tilting her head slightly. I didn't want to bring them right now, but I knew who would be the next. Blaze, the spirit of the heat, fire, and lava.

It's funny really, none of them were as strong as they are now until they met me. Eira was just the spirit of the snow and Blaze was just the spirit of Fire.

"Over a period of time, I can't just make a full "peerage" in a day. I must keep up appearances for now. I'm still not ready."

And it was true, I wasn't. My combat was focused on movement. If I could move around so that the enemy couldn't overwhelm me with numbers, or an absurd amount of high-level spells.

Even if this world's power levels were down in the dumps, I didn't want to risk it.

It happened before, I'm sure, I could not take a spell with my body yet, so I would be biding my time. Afterall, it was always on my side.
