Chapter 2: It wasn't just a threat.
Jin sat down on a bench outside of his apartment complex, staring at the night sky, he was just finished packing for the big day tomorrow.
His mind raced with all sorts of thoughts as he chewed on an entire pack of chewing gum.
Ever since he graduated from highschool, he has set a goal for himself to stop smoking, so instead of cigarettes, he'd chew on a scary amount of gum whenever he felt the urge to smoke again.
Now He sat down thinking about Nikolai, he knew that there's a 99.99% of chance, Nikolai would kick him out, he won't accept him being his bodyguard.
But he held on to that 0.01% that he might get to keep the job, especially since he agreed to the crazy rules set by Andrea, Nikolai's manager.
At 25 years old, He was thinking of all the things he did wrong in his life, and how Those things still haunt him till today.
How He used his strength to make people's lives miserable, but now he hoped he'd flip things around.
"Jin are you done packing?...it's pretty hot in here kid, why are you wearing long sleeves? black clothes nonetheless." The security guard asked him curiously.
Coming back to reality, "Hey Joe, you're here...well, I just feel comfortable dressing like this." Jin replied, "With a body like yours kid...I'd flaunt it every given chance." the security guard said chuckling.
"Haha, I guess that's one way to look at it, btw Joe..."
"Yeah kid?"
"Have you heard of Nikolai Parmar?"
"Oh my goodness...*sighing* don't remind me, my old and fragile gay heart can't take it, who doesn't know that guy now?" Joe said smiling.
Chuckling, "You're not THAT old, do you like him old man?" Jin asked, "The actor?...I do, Alot too! he's adorable, too bad he's too young for me." Joe replied making Jin chuckle again.
"I didn't know you like watching tv series, next time let's watch together, I'll buy us snacks." Jin Said, "I already found someone to watch with." Joe said.
Pouting, "Who is my competition? who took my joe from me?" Jin Said jokingly.
"My son, he's moving here into the complex...college gave him a hard time, so I told him to come here and stop worrying about the money." Joe answered.
"Oh Right! you have a son, you told me about it...what's his name, I think you mentioned it before but I forgot." Jin asked, "Cyrus, that's his name." Joe replied.
"A cool name, how old is he?"
"Old enough for you to make a move Jin!"
"Are you shipping me with your son Joe? he must be really special."
"He is, I haven't lived with Cyrus in ten years, since his mother and I divorced."
"I'm happy things are working out for you Joe." Jin Said kindly smiling at the security guard, "You too kid, I hope you too have things working out for you...Repenting is a long journey, but it's worth every struggle."
"Thanks old man."
"Don't forget to come visit and meet Cyrus." Joe said giving Jin a good pat on the shoulders before going his way.
"I will Joe." Jin replied before he went back to staring at the sky.
...Time skip...Next Mourning...
"He was an asshole, homophobic, pathetic bully..."
"Niko just stop." Andrea said sighing, "Why? I could talk about him all day long!" Nikolai said sarcastically.
"Niko dear, I understand you hate this guy but-!"
"but? you're still going my boi?"
"Niko, now that you explained to me a little, I completely understand your point of view, but I still want to hire Jin for you! he is perfect for the job."
"Andrea, what kind of best friend are you really?!"
"The one who doesn't want his best friend to die, because he received death threats!" Andrea replied grabbing Nikolai's hand in his, gently stroking it.
"You keep talking about the insane conditions you have set up for the job, what's that all about?" Nikolai asked shuffling in his seat.
Putting his elbows on the desk, "Well For starter, I must tell you that if you agree to having Jin as a bodyguard...you can go to the beach as a reward." Andrea said.
"I'm not falling for that." Nikolai said retrieving his hand.
Frowning "Jin agreed to monitoring you at any moment, Day and night and anywhere you go...he even agreed on poison checking your own food." Andrea replied, "he's going to be here any moment so you can ask him more questions." He added.
"What century are we living in?!" Nikolai mocked, "in order to do his job perfectly, he's going to stay with you, so you can go back to your own house." Andrea spoke again.
"I'm not going to live with him! I'll stay with you Andrea, I'm sorry for leaving unannounced yesterday."
"Nikolai...from now on, you're not allowed into my home."
"What are you talking about all of the sudden? Andrea what'd you mean?"
Turning his face away from Nikolai "We'll stay professional, I won't meet you again outside of work, And don't call me best friend again." Andrea said in a sad tone.
"Andrea...this is a joke right?" Nikolai asked.
"Your life is at risk! how is this a joke Niko?!"
"So what? you're going to cut me off unless I agree on having a bodyguard?" Nikolai said in disbelief.
"I can't take this pain in my heart any longer Niko, maybe I am better off away from you." Andrea replied softly.
Standing up, "I can't believe I'm being gaslighted into this." Nikolai said, he turned his back to Andrea in disappointment and started walking away.
Then, All of the sudden he heard "NIKO GET DOWN!"
Nikolai was pulled to the ground as something came crashing through one of the office's windows.
It took him a moment to realize that someone tried to snipe him from outside, and that Andrea was the one who pulled him to the ground.
What Nikolai's eyes weren't prepared for, was the sight of blood splatter all over him.
Turning his attention to his friend, "Andrea... Andrea?...No this can't be happening!" Nikolai mumbled shaking as he saw blood was oozing from Andrea's body, there was just too much of it.
Those who heard Nikolai scream, came rushing through the office door, including Jin who came today at Andrea's request.
"Oh my god..." one of the people who saw the grisly sight fell on his back, "CALL THE POLICE! CALL AN AMBULANCE!" the man shouted.
Jin entered the scene, his eyes fell on Nikolai who was sitting on the ground with a shocked expression on his face, blood all over his clothes.
"Nikolai!" he called his name as he rushed to check on him if he was injured or not.
Hearing his familiar voice, Nikolai turned around to see Jin touching him, making sure he was not hit anywhere, he then pushed him gently aside so he can turn his attention to Andrea, as he began checking for a pulse.
"Did anyone call an ambulance? this guy is still alive! we need to hurry." Jin stated out loud, "I-i did! I called for one!" One the workers responded immediately.
Nikolai unconsciously reached with both of his trembling arms to Jin, "Niko!" Jin Said wrapping him in a hug, "it was supposed to be me...it was supposed to be me not him." Nikolai mumbled again.
"it's okay, Andrea is going to be fine... it's not your fault." Jin Said comforting him.
"If something happens to him...*sobbing* I'm going to kill myself." Nikolai said.
"It's okay Niko, let's get you out of here." Jin Said pulling him up on his feet, "I can't leave him!" Nikolai protested.
"Don't worry we'll follow him to the hospital." Jin Said calmly.
...Some hours later...
"Thank you doctor." Jin calmly replied as the doctor assured them about Andrea's condition, "Don't worry about your friend, he's going to be alright." The doctor said before walking away from them.
"Niko, you heard that?" Jin asked, "I'm not going to stop worrying until I see him again." Nikolai replied while biting his fingernails hysterically.
The police were just done asking him all sorts of questions about the incident, when the doctor came out to give him the good news.
"At least go change your clothes, I asked someone earlier to bring you something clean to wear." Jin Said showing him the bag of clothes, "I don't want to." Nikolai replied going back to sit in the waiting area.
Following him around, Jin sat besides him, "how did you and Andrea meet?" he asked glancing over at Nikolai who now fiddled with his glasses.
But Jin got ignored, so he thought of a different question, "what's with the glasses...you never wore glasses in highschool."
"They are my mentor's." Nikolai replied.
"Andrea mentioned someone like that yesterday...he said that he hasn't seen you this angry since the day your mentor died." Jin said, "It's true, seeing your face made me feel more pissed then When I was told that my mentor hid the fact he was diagnosed with cancer at late stage...I didn't know he was dying until he died." Nikolai replied glaring at his glasses.
"I guess this was all wrong to begin with." Jin spoke up.
"You reckon?" Nikolai scoffed at him.
"Niko...I'll stay with you until Andrea can come back and find you a better bodyguard, just until then, please... tolerate my existence." Jin said looking at Nikolai, Nikolai turned to look at him as well.
Their eyes met for a moment, "The moment Andrea is back on his feet, I want you out of my life...is that understood?" Nikolai spoke firmly.
Nodding at him, "understood." Jin replied.
...An hour later...
"Everything is going alright but it's going to take Mister Andreoli a while to wake up and regain his full consciousness, so we will give you a call as soon as he's fully awake." A nurse explained.
"Thank you." Jin said, "Nikolai?" he turned his attention to his client.
"I get it, you want me to go home." Nikolai said, "Yeah, you still haven't cleaned up or changed your clothes." Jin replied.
Without further talking, Nikolai followed Jin to the car, the two walked slowly side by side, Awkwardly glancing at each other between their steps.
When they made it to the vehicle, Jin asked Nikolai to wait at a safe distance until he turned the engine on first, before he gets into the car.
When all was done, Jin signaled at Nikolai and the guy climbed into the passenger seat.
"Andrea told you, you're going to accompany me at every moment." Nikolai spoke up.
"Yeah, he sent people last night to move my stuff to your house...he said that from now on, I should dedicate the 24h every day to watching over you." Jin replied as he started driving them out of the parking lot.
"Andrea said, you'll be tasting my food for me." Nikolai pointed out, "I can cook, if you'd want, I can cook for you as an alternative." Jin replied.
"And what about my bedroom...are you Also going to sleep with me?" Nikolai asked, "I'll sleep on the floor, I have to keep an eye on you."
"I remember you were a heavy sleeper back in highschool."
"I'm no longer like that Niko."
"A heavy sleeper or liar?"
"Both." Jin replied, he glanced over to see Nikolai looking through the window.
"I wish I can believe you Jin, really."
"it's okay, if you don't believe me then that's fine... actions speak louder than words, I'll prove it to you Niko."
"My mentor died, My best friend is in the hospital and now I'm having my ex bully as a bodyguard...why does my life have to be like this." Nikolai said staring back at his own reflection in the window.
